DIY Works In Progress

May 12th, 2009 @ 11:20 am by Mrs. Yorkie

This has been quite the busy week! Mr. Yorkie and I had our last money management session with the financial planner. That has been one of the best investments of our planning time, and I would highly recommend it to any couple getting married. Tomorrow after my morning run, I’ll head home to (hopefully) wrap up a handful of DIY works in progress: the drink menu, aisle runner, seating card tree, and lacy luminarias.

Here are a couple of photos of the drink menu that I’ve been working on. (The shadow box and decorative paper are from Martha’s collection at Michaels, of course!)

I’m not quite happy with the layout and spacing of things just yet. I also plan on adding a little extra dimension by placing pop dots between the menu and background.

What do you think?

Oh yum! I spy a mojito on your drink list! ;-) What are “pop dots”? Might they make it a bit too busy-looking?

@Miss Bruschetta: I believe they would go behind the drink menu to ‘pop’ it off the background to make it a little more 3-dimensional. You wouldn’t see them -

I love that it’s in a shadow box, I never would have thought of doing that. I think with the pop dots, it will look great!

I love the print of the background. It is both soft and detailed.

Very nice! I love that Martha Stewart paper. I was going to buy some, but couldn’t figure out where I would use it.

Very pretty, will everyone get one or just scattered on the cocktail tables?

You know I think the pop dots will really push this thing to another level. I have been loving this since I saw it on your blog. hehe What a neat piece!
Also… your font choice is exquisite! I love it. :)
I am sure to do something similar for signs around my reception.

How do you plan on displaying this? Does it stand up on its own or do you have another way?

Lucky for me this stands on its own! I might set it on an easel, though, for a little added stability. It will be on the bar surrounded by a few candles and a small vase with flowers.

I love that you are having mojitos at your wedding. That will provide for a fun atmosphere. We are having a mojito bar at our wedding with all kinds of flavors. I gotta say that is the thing I am most excited about!
