Save the Date Options

May 12th, 2009 @ 8:30 am by Mrs. Labrador

We’ve already hit our 6-month mark on the wedding countdown. Because only 2 people on our guest list live in our wedding city, we need to send out STDs to inform friends and family of our “destination wedding” SOON. But I keep going back and forth on possible STD options. How can something that’s supposed to be so simple be so hard to pick out? I’m definitely gonna need the hive’s help on this one.

I’ve been bored at home all day because of the downtime between the end of classes/work and my internships. I took this rare free time as an opportunity to narrow down the choices to 3 (for now). Here they are!

Option 1: Simple & Classic

This option would ideally coordinate with the rest of the wedding paper details. Because a damask print will be incorporated in the wedding decor, why not use it on all the wedding correspondence? This option would also be perfect for incorporating an engagement photo. The particular design shown is only $16 for a digital file and I can print them anywhere, making it the cheapest option, by far.

Option 2: Wedding City/Venue Theme

With this I would incorporate the city of Savannah or our venues. Maybe a train motif to symbolize Savannah Station? Or a postcard, like this one from Etsy’s turnofthecenturies that features Savannah’s historic squares where we’ll be married? I could customize the back with the essential information myself.

Option 3: Funky & Fun

But who says the STDs have to incorporate a detail from the wedding or its city at all? Maybe they can just be full of personality and completely different from all of the other wedding stationery? This is a mock up of a Pose Print STD featuring me and Mr. Lab!

I love each one for different reasons and can’t choose by myself!

So hive, which one do YOU think I should choose?

I LOOOOVE the venue/city theme one! If my wedding was somewhere with a ton of history like yours I would go for this. Its something you don’t see for every wedding (as opposed to the traditional magnet or picture of the couple, etc) so it will be memorable. Plus its something people would like to put in an album rather than brush aside after the fact. And PS I had a very difficult time picking mine out as well. Finally the FH said “We’re getting THIS one!” and that was that :)

Wow, I’ve never seen anything like that second one — but I love it!

I said funky and fun because your std can be completely different than your actual invites- it would set up the feeling for guests to know you want them to come wearing their party pants!

Miss Lab, they all look great! The second and third options are both truly unique in different ways. I would probably choose the city option, but I love the cartoon as well! This is a tough one, but you can’t go wrong!

Funky and fun. To me, the others just don’t compare. And I’m totally stealing the idea, by the way!

I voted for funky & fun. It will let your guests know that you’re ready to party (and they should be too!) then you can set the romantic southern charm “mood” with your invitation.

I think Savannah is a gorgeous historical town, so I’m all about that!

Totally go with the city theme! We did kind of the same thing. Our last name is East and we are getting married in Denver. My clever little hubby came up with this: “Come Join us out West for the East Wedding Celebration!” The front of the postcard had an old western weather vane pointing East. Kinda funny. Then on the back we used a vintage postcard and put our picture and information on it. I loved them and so far everyone else has loved them! (Once they finally got the pun.)

I think that if you’re having your wedding in an awesome historic town like Savannah, and since only two of your guests are from there, that this would be a perfect opportunity to give your guests a peek into what they might enjoy while they’re there for your wedding. Why not get a bunch of postcards with different pictures of Savannah, and add your info to the back? All the STDs don’t have to look the same. People aren’t going to compare. And if they do, they get to see another cool photo/image/drawing of Savannah!

I think the Savannah-themed one is gorgeous and fits perfectly with the city’s history. That’s my pick!

I think the second one is interesting, but not very fun. I voted for the third, funky & fun!

I’m torn between the city venue and the funky and fun!!! But I think having a city themed STD will go fantastically with your Southern Romance wedding :)

I like them all, but I voted for the first one. It’s beautiful and you can save a lot of money on them, money you can definitely spend happily elsewhere on things that are super important to you. And it will go with your whole wedding!

I voted the second because it really captures the romance of the south in the simplicity and the fun of the south in the wording. The first, forgive me, seems a little cliche. I like seeing STD’s without the couple’s photo. The third one is fun, I’d go with that one if you’re building a “funky” vibe.

I voted #2! Savannah is such a gorgeous place and if you have guests who haven’t had the opportunity to visit yet this invite will get them really excited! :)
Plus, it’s pretty original!

I love the city theme! I’m actually planning on doing something similar–I’m tracing the capitol building in photoshop to make a cute line art graphic with an old fashioned “Visit Nebraska!” scroll so it looks like a vintage postcard. I’m super excited to send them to our family in California. ^_^

Honestly? The second one is way classy. Architectural drawings and maps are so beautiful. The third one? I apologize for the bluntness but way not classy. Of course, you may not care about that…

I like the first one the best because it says wedding to me. The second one is alright, but it seems like more time, effort, and money. The third one doesn’t say wedding at all, I can see it being a nice shower invite but I just don’t get the wedding vibe from it at all. I say go with the pretty cheaper one and have more money for other
