Mrs. Ballet Flat's Picture
Mrs. Ballet Flat, New Orleans Age and Occupation: 24, Geographic Information Systems Analyst Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, IT Analyst Engagement Date: March 16, 2008 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Blogging Since: September 25, 2008 Venue: St. Charles Borromeo Church/Jefferson-Orleans North About Me: I absolutely love wedding planning, spending time with Mr. Ballet Flat, various crafts, watching football, baking, pop music, bargain hunting and ice cream. My idea of a great date night is dinner and clearance shopping with Mr. Ballet Flat! I currently live below sea level in the suburbs near New Orleans, where I make maps all day, everyday for my job. I'm slowly becoming more and more obsessed with anything New Orleans related for our wedding, and I can't wait for the big day!
About Mrs. Ballet Flat

While 95% of the planning is done, I still have a few things left to do. I felt like they were manageable tasks to take care of in the time we had left until the big day. So, I thought, no big deal.

That is, until a little surprise arrived on Sunday.

Yep, I have a nice case of a cold. To note, I hardly EVER get sick. Maybe once every two years I get sick, and when I do, I get REALLY sick. So, I’m being extra cautious in making sure I get over this really quickly. I basically raided Target with my sniffly, sneezy self and bought the basics (in my experience, this will kick a cold’s booty in a couple of days!).

  1. Vitamin C pills
  2. Tylenol Cold
  3. Mucinex
  4. Kleenex (with lotion)
  5. Chloraseptic
  6. Popsicles, OJ and Gatorade

I will admit, yesterday was the worst, with the sore throat and the whole feeling out-of-it bit. Now, I’m still sniffly and sneezy, but I don’t have the sore throat and I do feel like I’m all here. I’m assuming my cocktail of the basics is helping right now, but I can’t ever be too sure. So, I’m still eating vitamin C pills like candy and religiously taking my meds.

I will say right now that I’m slapping myself for putting off a few projects that I should have done last week, mainly, getting the marriage license.

Are you worried about getting sick before your big day? How do you keep yourself healthy when you’re stressed and busy?

Sleep, tons of water and Airborne. That’s my prescription to stay healthy any time, so I hope it works — and can fit within my crazy schedule! — leading up to the wedding! Feel better, Miss BF!

Feel better Ballet! I am right there with you. I never ever get sick and this weekend one of three weekends I have left at home) I got the freaking flu! Ugh, that was a mess, now I feel even more behind.

I swear by Cold-eze (and I’m a med student so I am fully aware it may be the 30% placebo effect, but whatever it is, I like it!), so maybe add that to the combo :) Just make sure to follow the directions and don’t take them within 30min of something with citric acid (your OJ!).

Hi! I got married three weeks ago at a plantation in b/w NO and BR. I started to get a scratchy throat TWO DAYS BEFORE MY WEDDING! I went to an after hours clinic in BR and the doc gave me a cortisone (sp) shot that knocked out the scratch. Guess he felt sorry for me! If all else fails and you’re still feeling crappy might be worth a visit if you have decent health insurance!

I plan on getting lots of rest by takign the week off before and taking airborne, my family swears by it, although I havent really taken it much.

I have the same thing!! I’m catching my runny nose as we speak!! TMI, maybe? Feel better, and on the plus side I always lose a few lbs when I’m sick ( I think it’s all the vitamins and soup!)

I am 4 days away from the wedding, and still battling a sore throat headache combo that came on more than a week ago!!!

Luckily I’m done with all my projects and not much running around is needed. But I’d love to shake this before the big day.

Good luck with your cold. I think stress lowers our immune system, so try to detox from all the craziness!

Very little evidence for any of these remedies to work. Lots of fluids and lots of rest are best… there is some limited evidence for the benefits of zinc (think zinc lozenges), but sometimes it can cause upset stomach.

Good luck and let people take care of you!

I wasn’t worried about getting sick before, but now I am! I’m heading home to San Diego before the wedding, and I’m afraid of getting sick (since I’m switching cities and there are all sorts of bugs I don’t have an immunity for!)

My wedding is in less than 2 weeks. Last week I came down with a cold that was thankfully short-lived, but it actually somehow got into my eye and I ended up with viral pink eye!!! At least it’s not the nasty kind that oozes nastiness everywhere, but it is quite annoying — and I do NOT want to get married in my old, cracked, ugly glasses that I never wear!

From one sick bride-to-be to another: I hope you get well soon!!

Oh boy, getting sick always gets in the way. Honestly, I’ve been trying to take very good care of myself in these last 2 weeks to my wedding. I don’t want bruises, cuts, scrapes, zits, etc. I *might* be going overboard.

Hope you feel better soon — and prioritize, delegate, and let things go! (Easier said than done, I know!)

Zicam! I swear by it - it doesn’t get rid of your cold but it definitely reduces the length of it. If I take it as soon as I feel a tickle in my throat I usually only feel sick for a day or two!

I ended up getting a stomach flu, regular flu and migraine all within six weeks of the wedding…thank God I was healthy for the last couple weeks, but I still had a lingering cough and I was so paranoid that I was going to start hacking in the middle of my vows!

(The bridal glow kicked the cough’s butt, BTW)

Ah! I’m so sorry, hope you get well fast, being sick is awful, even if you’re not days from getting married. I get vertigo (at random, haven’t been able to predict it yet) and just recently realized that having a bought the day of is a possibility! I hope I don’t have nightmares, but I can picture myself not being able to walk down the aisle!
