Mrs. Swan, New York City Age and Occupation: 31, Legislative Representative Fiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Finance Guy Engagement Date: August 9, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2009 Venue: Battery Gardens About Me: I am an un-crafty but resourceful, Caribbean-born but New York-raised woman who's been known to analyze "Dancing with the Stars" and “So You Think You Can Dance”, buy stinky cheese, and use way too many parentheses. I keep lists for fun, am constantly daydreaming of my next international travel adventure (four continents down, three to go), debating sports (let’s Got Mets/Giants!) and dancing around my apartment to stay sane. I am excited to share our wedding planning journey as I hope to plan a streamlined, personal, and fun wedding with the greatest life partner I could ever imagine, Mr. Swan.
About Mrs. Swan

Grooming

May 13th, 2009 @ 1:04 pm by Mrs. Swan

Not grooming for me, but for Mr. Swan. I have always been an advocate of a groom in a nice suit. Rented tuxedos with cumberbunds or vests have just never been my preference. On the other hand, in his last job, Mr. Swan had to wear a suit almost every single day. While I think my boo looks pretty sharp when going to work in a Brooks Brothers’ business suit, I’m not sure if it’s the same style we are aiming for for our daytime summer wedding. I took the liberty of collecting some pictures of snazzy looking grooms, and here they are.

I thought Mr. Swan would like something like this, minus the bow tie. To my surprise, he totally didn’t. You feel like you know someonem and… BAM!

This guy looks pretty snappy, but I told Mr. Swan not worry about wearing any feathers on our wedding day.

Will anyone else break the tuxedo mold for their wedding? Do you have any favorites from our suit inspiration pictures?

I tried SO hard to get him to NOT wear a tuxedo. IMHO, it’s way too formal for our setting, but FI was set on it. And he wanted to buy one. What can you do?

My fella is wearing a suit. He doesn’t wear them for work, so we bought a new one for him to wear — with the nice side-effect of expanding his wardrobe while buying wedding wear. Of the photos you shared, I like the light grey suit. It’s likely to be the most different from what he normally wears for work, and it’s also great for a summertime wedding.

My guy hates tuxes so no tuxes at our wedding :) I love the light colored suits, pics 3 & 4 are my faves.

My groom went with a suit from alan david (got from a post by mrs. onion). Since you’re in NY, you might check it out. We just picked it up and it is beautiful. A neat detail is he has his own name label! Plus they do custom shirts too. The nice thing about spending money on a suit, you know he’s going to wear it more than once!

I left the decision up to FI since he will be the one wearing it. I suggested buying a nice suit since he would be able to wear it again but he said he wanted a tux so that’s what we’re going for. But no bow tie which we both agree on

My FH just bought his suit yesterday at JC Penny. They had some on clearance and they looked really sharp.

We are going no tux, but I definately had to sell him on the idea….he just assumed that was what he was ’supposed to do’ so I had a hard time convincing him otherwise. He consented….eventually.

My favorite thing whether it be tux or suit, is a great pop of color. Pick a great tie and let it be the pop of color for him! Nothing too matchy matchy is necessary, but something to help his outfit coordinate with yours, the maids, and the men. I really like pic #4 with the purple tie!

I like the 4th one down. But it all just depends on the final colors I guess. Mr. Lab won’t be wearing a tux. Just a nice khaki/tan suit with a deep red tie!

Ha! My experience went a lot like Miss Gloss’. He thought a tux was a given… but I had to show him there are other options! Now he’s sold on the suit.

We’re also going suits :) I’m not a huge tux fan… plus I always found it funny that the bride spends ALLL kinds of money on her dress and the groom rents something he could have worn to prom. I’m just sayin’

@Miss Bruschetta: You make me giggle :)

my guy even owns a tux but will not be wearing it for the wedding. he has to wear suits a lot and about a year ago he invested in some really nice ones (for special occasions), one of which he’ll be wearing for the wedding. he got it at a clearance sale from turnbull & asser (british company where prince charles gets his suits apparently!)–there’s a store in midtown so you may want to check it out. prices are way steep though.

We are def in the same boat (daytime summer wedding) and don’t think a tux is the look we’re going for. The mister has been putting off suit shopping for way too long. With 80 days to go, we’ve got to get our butts in gear.

Personally I’m loving the first picture- that suit is hot! I am also loving the slim fit suits from JCrew but we have yet to see what they look like on my boo.

We’re hoping to take a look at Men’s Warehouse, Burlington, and Macy’s within the next 2 weeks.

My FMIL THREW DOWN and insisted her baby boy would wear a tux on the big day. And it was done.

We went the suit route too. The owner of the suit shop we bought from recommended a grey or blue suit for outdoor weddings. I forget the reasoning. My groom ended up in a navy suit, white shirt and champagne/ivory tie to match my dress.

Gawd, how I love the look of a man in a suit. I think tuxes are comical.
