Mrs. Deviled Egg's Picture
Mrs. Deviled Egg, Pittsburgh Age and Occupation: 27, Public Relations Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Accounting Engagement Date: December 24, 2007 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Blogging Since: October 21, 2008 Venue: Historic auditorium and meeting hall in one of Pittsburgh's commuter cities About Me: I am obsessed with all things crafty, especially scrapbooking, knitting, jewelry-making & cake decorating. I also love being an aunt, wrapping presents, watching football (Go Steelers!), shopping at yard sales and consignment stores, procrastinating, singing and learning to play the guitar. When it comes to wedding planning, I'm excited about working on DIY projects and finding creative ways to stay under budget. Of course, nothing is more exciting to me than knowing that the wonderful Mr. Deviled Egg will be my husband.
About Mrs. Deviled Egg

I rarely treat myself to a salon pedicure. I love the result, the pampering, and the massage, but it’s tough plunking down $50 to pay for the service. Doing them myself isn’t so bad, but they never quite have that perfectly polished look a professional can provide.

Last summer, one of my sisters had a really nice pedicure and, when I complimented her on it, she let me in on her secret—they were artificial. I always thought about trying the inexpensive glue-on toe nail kits at the drug store, but forgot about it when summer was over and I put away my flip flops.

For my bridal shower, I desperately wanted the look of a salon pedicure, but, with feeling the effects of being wedding poor so close to the big day, I just couldn’t spare the cash. In came the artificial toe nails. I bought a package for $5 at CVS/Pharmacy and went to town. Here’s how they turned out:

I Like Pedicures, But I Also Like Money : wedding beauty Img 0101 IMG_0101

Goodness, my feet are huge! I took this photo a week after application.

I really didn’t think they turned out bad! They lasted me just over a week (I did have to glue one toenail back on once, but that’s it) and they stayed shiny and pretty the whole time. They were already painted to give the French look, so I didn’t have to worry about DIY French pedicure kits with masking stickers and not-quite-opaque-enough white polish. Applying them only took me about 10 minutes.

So, for $5, I think I’m going to use them for the wedding. Not too much of my toes poke through my peep toes, and I really don’t think people will see much of my feet underneath my dress.

What do you think?

Are artificial toenail kits a good idea?

they look amazing, especially for 5 bucks! Do you use regular nail glue and once you took them off did it thin your real toenails like it can fingernails?

They look amazing! I have the tiniest toenails every I think though, I think they would make me feel like I have claws. I think it is a great idea though.

That’s awesome!! I’m going to have to experiment with this, one of my big toes has a big dent in one side so I wonder if it will work.

Great idea! :)

I would only worry because I would be the person who would have a guest find one of my nails that had fallen off on the dance floor and then one toe on my foot looks horribly unlike the others….mortifying. lol

I would suggest not doing that for the wedding day
I say that because I used to wear those on my fingers..but I always had to carry glue in my purse incase they came off..which they would do all the time.
My thoughts are …what if one comes off during the wedding and then you look kinda silly. I think your wedding day is the one day you don’t want to have to worry about a nail falling off.
Also…$50?! That’s nuts…go to the little nail places and get it done for $25 :-)

oh..but they LOOK awsome and you should totally rock them to things like your shower. Just tihnking that on the day of..you don’t wanna worry about having to carry glue and keep checking your toes to make sure they are “all there” :-)

I’m with spraguebride. I think these look awesome and think you should rock them on all days except your wedding day. I also think that you should visit a tiny local nails-only salon where pedicures cost no more than $25 (I’ve lived all over the country and have found one in every city and town!)

Looks great, but even with the hefty pricetag of a pedicure (not too bad where I go actually, only $20 and it lasts for weeks) they are too relaxing and essential to my sanity to not have them :)

Those look great for your shower though! I think you should splurge a bit for your wedding, just because it will probably help alleviate some of that last minute stress. Just my 2 cents ;)

Oh I do this all the time, on both my hands and feet for special occasions. The best thing to do is file your own nail just a little so that the glue has something to hold on to. Oh and I put these on my feet for a wedding in Mexico and I went in the beach. I never had one fall off. they are amazing!!!

it looks like a professional job! i’m amazed that came from a press on kit. I remember buying a kit after watching those Lee press on nail commercials that may it look so easy to apply. My trial lead me to believe it was TV magic but your picture is making me reconsider my stance!

I feel so outdated (I know, I know I’m supposed to be in my prime years)… I had no idea these existed!

I have never heard of these. But I may be going to CVS when I get off work now, because of you. :D What a cool idea. The only reason I can see to splurge on the salon job is that some salons do a whole foot care/massage/relaxation thing. And what bride doesn’t deserve that?!
