My Wedding Day Jewelry

May 14th, 2009 @ 11:55 am by Mrs. Mary Jane

Deciding on jewelry hasn’t been nearly as taxing for me as deciding on a dress has/still is. From the start, I knew I would wear the strand of pearls my grandparents gave me for my birthday a few years back.

Since my ring is white gold and antiquey-looking, I wanted some earrings to “tie together” my accessories. I have been browsing various websites in search of perfect vintage/art deco/sparkly/silver/pearl earrings. Perfect Details had a bunch of styles I really like, and so did emitations and 1928.

Though I’ve found some fun and fitting designs, I haven’t been seriously looking for earrings (or uh… anything) because of our house purchase (tomorrow OMG!!) and that pesky possible income loss I recently mentioned. Pretty much every extra penny we have is either going toward closing/moving/home-improving funds or contributing to our new emergency plan. Mr. Mary Jane and I don’t have anything set aside to pay for the wedding. I don’t have a jar with $1000 in it with “Wedding Money” written on the side. We’re just paying as we go. (It’s a perk of skirting the land of vendor deposits!)

So anyway, even though my mind has been working overtime on what I might buy in the future, I haven’t been very serious about shopping for accessories. But then… the other day, I was in Macy’s. I had a gift card and I was going to use it to buy a belt for a shirt-dress I have. As I strolled past the jewelry, I noticed these.

Look how closely they match my ring! I HAD to buy them.

They’re from Givenchy, and they were only $28. That belt I had been looking for was suddenly the furthest thing from my mind. Since I had a gift card, these beauties didn’t rob me of any paint money, landscaping money, U-Haul rental money, or emergency fund money. So I bought ’em. They don’t have the pearl accents in them like I had originally wanted, but I still think they’re perfect. I have double-pierced ears anyway; I can stick some pearl studs in the other piercing. Bing-bang-boom, earrings found. Woohoo!

I’m planning to go shopping in Fargo within the next month so that I can get a look at some birdcage veils and other headpiece options to “complete” my look. It’d also be cool if I could find a bracelet that incorporates both pearl and white metal/sparkly accents to tie the earrings and necklace together.

Did you unexpectedly stumble upon a wedding day accessory?

Those earrings and all your jewelry together look great. I also bought a pair of Givenchy earrings at Macy’s over the weekend, but I think I stumbled across some delicate pearls I’ll wear instead.

i had no clue what i would wear for a necklace. i was looking whenever i was somewhere, googling online, just trying to see different things to get an idea of what i wanted to even start looking for. then when i was visiting my mom i happened to see her jewelry box and rummaged through it. i found the perfect necklace i didn’t even know i loved and not only will i be borrowing it but i found out it had sentimental value unkown, it was a gift from her parents on her 16th birthday.
i couldn’t be happier about this unexpected piece of jewelry!

I still can’t bring myself to shop for a clutch. I just can’t imagine I need a purse for my wedding! But I’m still keeping my mind open, just in case something like this happens!

There’s a seller on Etsy that does great work with freshwater pearls (all kinds of colors and shapes) and she does all kinds of custom work if you don’t see a perfect match in her shop. I used her for my wedding jewelry and my girls and couldn’t have been more pleased. I had all custom pieces made and they were perfect. Her shop is Purely Elegant or http://www.purelyelegant.etsy.com. Let her know I sent you!
