Registry Swag!

May 14th, 2009 @ 6:16 pm by Mrs. Ballet Flat

I would like to admit that registries give me a headache. Mr. Ballet Flat and I registered a few months ago for the basics: flatware, blender, Crock-Pot, As Seen on TV detox foot pads. You get the idea. There was another temptation that was unexpected: FREE stuff!!

Yes, free stuff. You can get stuff when registering for a good chunk of merchandise that is of one brand, and even more stuff for people actually purchasing you all of those things. It was tempting to go in there as Joe Blow and Anna Banana and just register for obscene things for free stuff, but we didn’t. (Yes, I know that’s completely wrong to do… it was just a funny, innocent thought!)

This past weekend, however, as Mr. BF and I were adding a couple more registry items (we realized we needed curtains!), Target gave us a book with mainly advertisements for the expensive stuff that they want you to register for. Pfft… I try to avoid such books, because it tempts me to want things that we really do not need.

I flipped through it, however, because Mr. BF was clearance shopping for electronics (ah fun!) and I am currently trying to save my money for Mickey souvenirs instead.

I noticed a bookmark in the middle of it, and what was it? None other than a $20 coupon code for Shutterfly! Wow, and we didn’t have to register for $500 worth of Mikasa? SWEET! (No offense to you Mikasa lovers. I’m just too klutzy for breakables!)

I don’t know why I was so excited about this, but I love free stuff! In fact, I get all giddy over free samples on the internet, simply because they’re free!

Have you gotten all giddy over the perks of registering? Did you get any free or discounted goodies?

We’re registered at Williams Sonoma, and if you register for a certain amount of Le Creuset, you can send away for a little covered mini-crock - and if people BUY you enough Le Creuset, you get a free little heart shaped dutch oven! A few weeks after I sent in the forms for the little mini-pot, we got a congratulatory card with a free Le Creuset cookbook in the mail - super cool!!

@Gilneas: omg I heart le creuset!! That, and a kitchenaid, are the only things I actually care about getting from my wedding registry

Totally love free stuff.
Also, my MOH and I went in on the footpads together bc we were nervous to try them alone. They do turn black, it’s kind of gross/fascinating.

I was over the moon with the free gift from Crate and Barrel! I couldn’t wait to bust out that heart dish, I made my mom use it for the engagement party :)

Guilty of registering at Bloomingdale’s because I got a free copy of Bride Wars. After the fact, not even sure if I will use that registry — but I got me a fun bridal flick on DVD. :)

I also registered at Target and they gave me a $20 gift card for registering over $100! $100? That’s easy to do!

I know some people come into Target with coupons for a free gift card for registering… where do those coupons come from?

One of the local stores we registered gave us a beautiful jay strongwater frame when we registered. It was a very lovely gift.

I got a big free tote from Macy’s unexpectedly, but ended up scrapping our registry there because of the bad customer service and the complexity of the system they use. I feel sorta kinda guilty that I still get to keep the bag…

I love me from free stuff. My mom the worst with it, though. She’ll totally buy something that is buy one get one free just to “get one free” even if she doesn’t need it!

Oooo, yes! We received a free All Clad dry measuring cup set after registering for our cookware, and a free pair of Wusthof shears after registering for our knives!

I love free stuff too, as a recovering shopaholic, anything free is good! haha. I havent really started registering yet. We went once and we were overwhelmed, so we aren’t going to do anymore for awhile.

Yeah, I stumbled upon that Shutterfly gift card after registering, too! It was awesome because I was about to order the pictures for our table numbers from Shutterfly anyway…so, then I got them for free! Score!!
