A Nontraditional Groomsman Gift

May 15th, 2009 @ 9:25 am by Mrs. Glitter

A while back, I wrote a post about how Mr. G selected my little brothers to be his best men. I was, and still am so touched by their close relationship to each other. Mr. G really wanted to get them gifts of appreciation and love for taking part in our wedding, but he kept coming up short. Leave it up to my mom (of all people!) to come up with the perfect idea.

Last weekend, the three amigos truly became “brothers” when they got new identical tattoos!!

They each had a hand in determining the concept of the tattoo. It is a representation of the Borromean rings: three rings that cannot be separated. Removing any ring results in two unlinked rings. The Borromean rings have been used in different contexts throughout history to indicate strength in unity.

I was a bit skeptical of the whole process at first. But now that I’ve seen the end result, I have to say… they’re pretty gangsta.

Anyone else get inked as part of your wedding process?

That is the coolest groomsmen gift ever!! Wish I could say my sisters would agree to this, but we’re all a bunch of wimps…

Wow! That is SO cool! It’s awesome that your FI & brothers are so close and the tattoo idea is an awesome reminder of that! I think that’s the most creative and touching wedding gift I’ve ever seen.

Oh my goodness…that is intense! How nice that they have such a close, friendly relationship. My fiancee and I did get tattoos - but I would never have dared to ask my bridesmaids to do that! :)

woah, that is seriously intense, I can’t believe your mom suggested it. I really like the end result and it is perfect for the three of them.

I love it! The tatoos are awesome looking - and ouch to the one on the inner bicep!! That one had to hurt!
My fiance and I are getting tatoos - I’m getting an itty-bitty Puerto Rican flag and he is getting a little shamrock. :) If you didn’t guess - he is Puerto Rican and I’m (mostly) Irish! I’m not looking forward to the pain but I am very excited to get the tatoo!

i got my shoulders “capped” for the wedding. i had wanted to get them done for a while, but once i was engaged it became just as important as my dress to get them done. i am so excited and they contrast amazingly against my super traditional dress.

Thanks, gals, for all the nice compliments!

@Vic004: Funny that you ask that. Until now, I’ve never considered getting a tattoo. It’s not that I haven’t admired them, but I could never think of something meaningful enough to me to put on my body. Lately, I’ve had a few ideas. We’ll see ;)

Wow that is such a great bond your fiance has with your brothers…and that is great. My fiance and I are actually getting matching tatoos! Were getting a horseshoe linked with a feather…they both symbolize our last names…my new soon to be last name and my old last name!

Mr button and I got matching tattoos for our engagement. They are two little stick figures dancing, and are from a greeting card (of all places). I love them so much!
