Give Me a Head With Hair

May 15th, 2009 @ 5:48 pm by Mrs. Mary Jane

Today, I’d like to tell you the story of my hair!

For most of my life, I had long hair like this:

Give Me a Head With Hair : wedding hair Hairdec

(Me, December 2002)

Then when I got older, I decided to try shorter hair, like this:

Give Me a Head With Hair : wedding hair Hairnov

(Me, November 2007)

But it really bothered me that I couldn’t have a ponytail or braid. So I started growing it back out, until it got like this:

Give Me a Head With Hair : wedding hair Hairnov01

(Me; November 2008)

But I got to that awful growing-it-out point where your hair just doesn’t seem to budge a centimeter for months on end. And somehow I convinced myself that what I really needed was a BIG change. So I did this:

Give Me a Head With Hair : wedding hair Hairdec01

(Me, December 2008)

What a mistake. Don’t get me wrong, I did get a lot of genuine compliments on this hairstyle. But it just wasn’t me. I really didn’t like it; I felt like a guy. Let’s fast-forward to today (actually, a few weeks ago):

Give Me a Head With Hair : wedding hair Hairapr

(Me, April 2009)

I’ve been trying to grow out my hair since December. I’ve had one trim since then, and I’ve got another scheduled in June. (If you grow out short hair without shaping, you start to get all mullety - yuck!) I’m also taking prenatal vitamins in hope that they will help stimulate my hair and nail growth. My goal is to get to a style like this by the time my wedding rolls around:

Give Me a Head With Hair : wedding hair Hopeful

[source]

I don’t have hair as thick as Mrs. B’s, but I’ve found that these stacked hairstyles work pretty well for me. My hair grows pretty slowly, so I’m pessimistic that my bangs will get even close to this long in the <4 months I have to grow it. But we’ll see. I plan to write more about my wedding day hairstyle in the coming weeks, but I thought I’d give you a picture of what I have to work with first!

Having had long hair for the majority of my life, I’m not very good at styling short hair and I’m unsure about accessories for it. My day-to-day style usually consists of a brown barrette. I would love to say I plan to wear a birdcage veil or a pretty fascinator, but I’m not sure. I need to find some to try on. I’m concerned that I will feel weird and look strange with some kind of big thing stuck on my head. But we’ll see. I’m not a headband kind of gal, but some pretty barrettes might do the trick!

Are you destined to be a short-hair bride? What are you going to do with it?

I’m a short hair bride who just decided to suck it up and try to go long for my wedding day do.

I can’t wait to be short again, though!

I love how your hair looks now. I used to have an inverted bob like your hair goal for the wedding. It’s so easy to manage! Also a great look.

I’m a short haired bride who has been thinking about it for months but still has no clue. Short hair is really hard to style. Your hair looks great now, that would be a lovely wedding day look.

I’m a medium-haired bride, and I got myself some clip in extensions! Might be something to consider if you really really want longer hair for your wedding day. Your hair looks super cute now though, that short style really suits you!!

Out of all the hair styles I love your current one…its very fitting to your face and features. I’ve had my hair short and long…but I like it best in between. I’ve had the boy haircut when I was younger…do to my mom not wanting to hear my scream any more when she brushed all the knots out! I donated more than 12 inches to locks of love last year. And its growing a little too long again…so before the wedding or even before this summer comes I want to cut it again!

I’m a short hair bride and in 14 months I’ve only found about 10 pictures of good styles for short hair brides, the WID, unfortunately, is all the up do. At only 5 months to go I dropped my stylist and got a new one and upon my first appt with her, she cut my hair a little shorter than I would have liked. I didn’t like it until week 3 when it had grown out a little. Just when I was getting comfortable with it I had another appt tomorrow but I freaked today and rescheduled a few more weeks out. I’m also not sure how much my hair will grow in a few months. I’m leaning towards a similar look that you posted or the Kate Gosselin look if you will. I decided a head band is the only thing that will work well on my head. I was excited for all those flower head bands but they just didn’t look right on me. I feel a little lost at the moment and not sure what I should be doing with my hair so at my next appt I will probably just bring my pictures and start the conversation rolling about trials and how I should space out my next few cuts.

I’ve never gone as short as you did, but my hair is abnormally long right now. Mr. CC really likes it, so I’m going to let it grow some more. I really like your hair the length it is now!

I’m a medium length bride that also got clip in extensions. I can form them pretty much however I want. Love those kiosks in the mall!

I went from hair down past my bra strap to a pixie cut kinda like your “big change” one! It was AWFUL growing out. I was so dead-set on it growing out that I didn’t bother to get it shaped along the way….I really should have. I definitely had the awkward shape! Now it’s back down my back….3 years later =]

Whatever you think, I LOVE your short hair styles! I just chopped off my hair to give it to a friend (who lost her hair due to illness). I wished it looked half as good as yours - never had short hair in my life :)

Forget the inverted bob, your current short waves are much more chic! Your pictures will look more classic in twenty years without the trendy bob.

I love your current hair do and also like the one before that. I went through the same hair crisis, long, medium, boy-cut, and I’m at long again. Good luck!

i’ve got to say, your hair looks SUPER cute in the picture of you in a blue sweater. What about a sparkly barrette? or even a beautiful headband?

I like the new cut you had in 08 even though you were not into it. If you do get to Posh spices hair do, long earrings are always nice they show the sparkle but are still hidden, but so is a cute hair clip that you were thinking of. Def. keep us updated!!

Hi there - I think you look fabulous with short hair - I don’t have the face for it! If you want your hair to grow, try eating foods with folic acid… like wheat germ, leafy vegetables, etc. Folic acid is in prenatal vitamins and is what makes hair/nails grow so strong and fast when you’re pregnant.

Thanks for the complements on my current hair… but I should mention that that pic isn’t really an accurate representation of how it usually looks - which is more like my profile pic. I have very, VERY straight hair that only curls when it’s forced. I WISH it was wavy! The wave I’ve got in that pic was achieved through a half-hour with the curling iron and a lot of hair spray. heh.

Your current hair looks great! I think it frames your face better than the other cuts, but mostly because of the texture. If you ever do get it as long as Victoria Beckham’s, I hope you keep it textured. Makes it look like you have a full head of hair :-) A tip for stimulating hair growth is getting a trim every month and half to two months, even if just a centimeter.

I’ve had short hair for the past 9 years, and right now it’s like V.B.’s style, but a much, much shorter version. So, as far as bridal hair goes, my hair will grow back to V.B.’s length by November (except it will be stacked and tapered in the back more nicely than hers. . . ). I seriously am not doing anything to my hair except making sure I put on the right amount of styling creme gloss (the Fekkai from Bath and Body Works is the best). What I will do is buy a pretty skinny headband with a flower on it, like from Etsy.

Just remember, if you’re getting a haircut near your wedding date, make sure it’s at least two weeks before the wedding. If you get it closer to your wedding day, it’ll still look unnatural and you may not like how it looks. Oh, and 2nd day dirty hair works best for styling!

This has nothing to do with hair (though I like your current length), but I’m glad to see another duck on weddingbee!!
