Mrs. Perfume, DC Age and Occupation: 36, Consultant (and Part-Time Professor) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 41, Consultant Engagement Date: May 13, 2008 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Venue: The Homestead, Hot Springs, Virginia About Me: I'd like to think that I'm a modern day Little Edie Beale. Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.

Welcome (to the Country) Bags!

May 15th, 2009 @ 1:20 pm by Mrs. Perfume

Early in our planning, I stumbled across this favor bag idea on Oncewed.com. I love the old-timey, countrified simplicity of these!!!

Source

So, I decided to co-op the idea for our welcome bags.

I used the same laurel wreath and ’S’ stamps that we had on the invitation boxes, except this time with brown, rather than gold ink. And to close the bag, I folded the tops over, hole-punched two holes through the fold and pulled a ribbon through them, securing with a bow.

I made these three-panel fold welcome pamphlets, which include a little message, an itinerary of the weekend’s events, and a map on the back. I really must thank Miss Ballet Flat for the fantastic map tutorial and Miss Deviled Egg for her idea to use water color paper (I actually used drawing paper) to add heft and texture without blowing the budget.

The only issue with making these was the formatting for the printer. Since the paper was an unusual 8×10 size, I had to hand feed each sheet, and waited for the printer to re-calibrate each time. Very time consuming–I spent a good two hours just on printing (about double that on designing and formatting the images). It might have just been a problem with the equipment I was using, but I note it for posterity. (Oh yeah, and punching rounded corners was fun times, too.)

We added a Bath County visitor’s guide (which highlights beautiful back roads), a county driving tour guide…

Some local and not-so-local food favorites:

Hubbard’s Virginia peanuts. The snack packs we ordered are called “Hubbies”!! How funny is that?

Little bottles of Pellegrino (a bit of a nod to our honeymoon destination)…

Nonni’s dark chocolate biscotti (another nod). They’re individually wrapped–very convenient…

And of course, a little packet of hangover helper, Exedrin!

Welcome to the country!

Hah! That’s I’m planning on doing something similar for my reception, except ours will be goodie bags as opposed to favors. We’re gonna have one theme to a bag, 4 in total, so guests can pick 1. I’m super excited about them!

Love Love Love the welcome pamphlet! I am going to do something similar (with hopefully a little less time printing although I am enough of a perfectionist to spend a lot of time on them too!). And the Hubbies are super cute! Nice job and thanks for the inspiration!

I like that they’re simple (not pricey!) and how you made them look chic with a simple ribbon, very classy.
Miss P, did you use Martha Stewart’s Wedding stamp sets for this project? If so, how are they holding up? I bought 2 of her sets but I cant seem to take good care of them… any tips?

@xLailax: I used a rubber stamp (woodblock) for the laurel wreath. But the letter is that rubber peel-off Martha Steward kind, that you place on an acrylic stamper. It’s held up fine. I clean it after each use and place it back on that clear plastic backing that it came with, and put it back into the packaging that it came with…Maybe that would help???

Dang! I wish I would have known about the Hubbies. I went with Williamsburg Peanut Shop and had to hand bag them all in smaller portions. With a name like Hubbies and already in snack pack portions I’m kicking myself. Oh well…

Be still my heart, Miss P! I went looking for kraft bags for hotel welcome bags and they were all sold out at Michael’s. I am going to steal your lunch bag idea instead! So cute!

Miss Perfume, I must echo the above comments — you’ve done an amazing job of carrying a “feel” from your invitations through your wedding!

These look amazing!

I think I’ve finally reached the point in planning where I’m incapable of making a decision on my own. LOL!

Would you mind sharing how you divided your pamphlet into categories? Like what categories you used. (Welcome, Breakdown of events by day, contact info… etc).

Thanks!
