Mrs. Champagne's Picture
Miss Champagne, DC/Vail/Colorado Age and Occupation: 26, Eye Doctor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Attorney Engagement Date: March 13, 2006 Wedding Date: February 2009 Blogging Since: July 30, 2008 Venue: Small church ceremony with mountain-view log cabin reception About Me: I'm a small town mountain girl with a city heart. Found my way to the east coast, and Mr. Champagne kept me here so we're planning a wedding from afar in my hometown Vail, Colorado. I'm secretly obsessed with reality TV, Wii games where I can shoot a gun, country music, and Caesar: Dog Whisperer. I also spend time pretending to golf, backseat driving, having one way conversations with our MinPin Maxwell, loving champagne, and wedding perfecting… I mean, planning. I use way too many repeated symbols and letters when I write, and I'll love Mr. Champagne endlessly…
About Mrs. Champagne

Remember this guy?

No, he wasn’t the best man, or even a guest at our wedding. But we do have something in common. We’ve both spent a little time at the Eagle County Jail!

When I arrived in Colorado, I was so preoccupied with the OOT bags, water bottle labels, ceremony programs, and last minute details, that I forgot to investigate the most important preparation—our marriage license!

When Champ arrived in Denver with his family, I put him in charge of arranging the details surrounding our marriage license application. Now, I’ve lived my entire life in Eagle County, Colorado and you would think I would know where to go for things like this in a small town. Well, I’m not sure if it was the excitement surrounding the wedding, or just a stupid bridal brain fart, but I confidently drove us to the county jail to apply for our license. Yes—the jail, and no—I was not on drugs.

Here we are, all excited to get our license, with the obligatory “before” picture.

We walked in and I placed my purse on the X-ray belt to be scanned. I probably should have noticed that something was a little “off” when Champ and I were frisked after walking through the metal detector. Buuttt, I didn’t, and we walked to the counter and asked the woman for an application for a marriage license. She and the woman next to her looked at each other and burst out laughing. The younger woman turned and said, “See, I told you—I knew they were in the wrong place! We were all betting you were lost. Sweetheart, this is where you apply for a divorce, and you just look too happy for that.”

D’OH!!!

I was so embarrassed. But Champ and I just laughed it off, and headed for the county recorder’s office where we got our license and were one step closer to the wedding!

Next, we rehearse, and our parents take over the stage at a local bar!

@midwestelle: I know, I thought the same thing- apparently the jail is where the divorces happen and the recorders office is where the marriages happen. Who knew!

That’s awesome. I would totally do that. In fact, I have absolutely no idea where to go for ours when the time comes. Thanks for the tip- probably not the county jail. :)
