Miss Matched or Mismatched?

May 18th, 2009 @ 11:53 am by Mrs. Bruschetta

I’ll admit it: At times, I’m Little Miss Bossy. Occasionally, I’m Little Miss Stubborn. And I’m almost always Little Miss Chatterbox.

After we purchased the engagement diamond, but before the CAD disaster, I envisioned one day wearing a set — an engagement mounting and matching wedding band. Clearly, because I’m Little Miss Matched.

But after selecting the new setting, I’m not sure if a perfectly-paired duo is “me” anymore. I love (love, love) the micropave diamonds that adorn the band and gallery on my engagement ring. One pave design, though, seems like enough to me. And even though Ritani makes a variety of wedding bands that would perfectly complement my engagement ring, I’m finding myself drawn to shared-prong designs like this one:

What do you think? Should I be little Miss Matched, or is Miss Mismatched a perfectly acceptable option as well? Does (or will) your engagement ring and wedding band match?

Go for the mismatched! I did! They don’t go together but I’ll probably wear my engagement and wedding ring on different hands.

I like the mismatched! My ring looks almost identical, except it’s an eternity band. Pretty!

Mine look a little mismatched but when eventually an eternety ring is added they will look perfect. I consider mine a work in progress.

Mine are not part of a set but echo each other in the ridged pattern they both have. The band has smaller ridges than the e-ring, but they work beautifully together!

I have pave settings on my band as well, but I elected to do my wedding band like the one you have shown up top. I like the way it sparkles more ;)

Mine are mismatched. My wedding band is exactly what you posted — and it’s gorgeous. My e-ring is three stones, center square, with channel set diamonds on the band. Also, gorgeous. I chose that way because the center stone on my e-ring is set such that only a band w/ a dip would fit flush, and I wasn’t crazy about that look. Plus, as soon as I saw the band I have, I knew that’s what I wanted.

I wear them on different hands and absolutely love both. I also like the look of “stacking” bands with my wedding band, and may do so to commemorate other special moments in our lives — births of children, anniversaries, etc. I especially like the idea of one day giving the ring commemorating their birth to each of my children. (As a side note, I don’t think I’d wear the “extra” bands everyday; just occassionally, but who knows.)

I think mismatched is great. Mine won’t match perfectly with my engagement band but it complements it well. In fact it’s similar to what you pictured above.

My engagement ring is a simple solitaire that I love. It is a round stone but within the setting it is placed in it makes it look square at times and you have to take a second look. My stone is not big but I am happy to say that random people constantly stop me all the time to say how pretty it is. Of course, since we designed the setting with a jeweler it makes me very happy to get the compliment. Anyway, my wedding band is very is like the band you described and at first I wanted to be matchy matchy but when I saw the sample next to my ring I was hooked.

I was totally in your same position! Every jeweler that I went to, I asked about seeing something different but they were all insistent that with a micro pave engagement setting, it really does look best with a matching micro pave band. I’m thinking that for a very special occasion in the future, I’ll get something a little different that I can wear on my own if I want! Maybe 25th anniversary!

Mismatched! As long as they look nice together, you have two different styles and yet one beautiful combined look. Best of both worlds!

Mismatched (or Miss Matched). I love the idea of contrasting rings. You may not always want to wear both at the same time or on the same hand. Or, you might have changes made to your engagement ring (a woman I met had hers reset with more diamonds for her 10 year anniversary). So go with your gut!

Mine match and if they didn’t it would drive me crazy. I wish my wedding band sparkled more, but since I wear both my rings together it’s not a big deal.

The big question is, will you be wearing the rings together? And have you tried on your e-ring while wearing the this band? Sometimes when you put them on together the answer just reveals itself.

I originally wanted the matching band, no questions… But, once we went to try it on and started comparing, I realized it really wasn’t the best fit - so we went with a different band. And I love it!!

You should get a band that you love, it won’t matter if its matched or miss matched because you’ll be the one wearing it and looking down at it affectionately =)

Mine matches- but I think a mismatched one would look pretty cool too!

I wish I could help, but I’m just as confused about my band.

Of course it’s perfectly acceptable! I’ve always liked the look of plain wedding bands (no diamonds) with my micro-pave shank e-ring, but shared prong bands are also GORGEOUS. :)

Mine will match. However, I think if you can find a band that is similar enough to your E-ring then it would be just fine. :)

i am totally for the mismatched. After recently purchasing my wedding band (which is a square prong eternity band) and my e-ring (round brilliant solitaire with plain band), and getting a few crazy looks by my fiance AND jeweler, I decided to go with my gut. And I love how they look together on my hand, even if the fit isn’t as snug as my fiance/jeweler would like! Go with your gut- you’ll have this ring for the rest of your life!
