About Mrs. Gloss

So, I filled you in on the overall design basics. Now, it’s time for the details!!

The edge painting was one of my most favorite things about the invites. It adds in a pop of color without making the invitations too busy, and it was SO easy!!

Supplies:

  • Bottle of Acrylic Craft Paint in bright yellow ~ $4 @ Michaels
  • 1.5″ Foam Brush ~ $0.59 @ Michaels

I used a foam brush instead of a typical paint brush, because I figured the bristles would get paint all over the front of the invites. The foam brush still did this a little, but it was much less noticeable, and only happened on the outer invite. I painted them in small groups, rather than individually, which would have taken forever!! I did two sides at a time, waited for them to dry, and then did the other two. I definitely recommend having professionally cut paper if you are going to paint your edges, as any size discrepancies would have caused the paint to be transferred to the sides of the invitation when they were being painted in a group. And that’s it!! It honestly didn’t even really take that long. A little effort for a big impact is my kind of DIY! :)

Gloss, this is awesome! One of the coolest elements I have seen on a wedding invite. And like you said, totally adds that extra pop of color - so easy and cheap! Kudos to you!

Wow, you’re able to make your invites look that extra big awesome for a song, and companies are charging out the wazoo for the same effect!

@Miss Bruschetta: Yup, companies are DEFINATELY making $$$ on this one. I think the movie rental to occupy my mind while I was painting cost more than the supplies!

You might have explained this in the last post and I missed it, but the company where you bought the paper, did they do the printing too? Because I have no idea how you bleed to the edge without a crazy fancy printer, unless this is some sort of gocco madness?

I really hope not, because I don’t want to be convinced to gocco..

Lo

Oh my gosh, Miss Gloss, they’re perfect! They look so pretty! Did you just swipe the paint on the edges as the invites were held together in bunches? And where did you get that paper holder thingie? I neeeeeed it!

@mrspaetz: It is pretty thick, but very soft and plyable at the same time, it’s 220# Lettra paper.
@Lo: I did! The holder (1) comes with the gocco, but you can buy additional ones, which I did becuase they are SO handy for drying things. Just google ‘gocco drying rack’ and I’m sure something will come up!
