About Mrs. Beagle

Two weekends ago (I’m a week late on posting this :) ), Mr. Beagle had time off of work, so we were able to check some things off our wedding “to-do” list.

Task #1: make a decision on tuxes. We reserved our date with the Men’s Wearhouse and chose a jacket and vest style. Below, the vest is shown next to one of the bridesmaids’ dresses:

We are planning on pairing the vest with this purple tie:

I like the contrast against the light color vest. Even though it’s not an exact match with the bridesmaids’ dresses, it’s close enough in color and will be far enough away that the difference in shades won’t be noticeable.

However, while I was running last minute errands for Mother’s Day, I came across these from here & here:

I love #2 & #5 from the top pic (I think Mr. Beagle vetoed #1 & #3) and I’m smitten with both of the ties in the bottom pic. The only problem is that I wasn’t able to find five ties that were exactly alike, so if we were to go the black vest/purple tie route, the guys’ ties would probably not match. I’m not sure how I feel about that just yet, but since we will be able to change tux rentals up to 2 or 3 weeks before our date (and I have 90 days to return the ties), I have time to change my mind. :)

Task #2: find wedding rings. This was not nearly as much fun as I thought it would be. Our experience with picking out and buying an engagement ring was an exciting learning experience and we both had a lot of fun. This just felt like work. And the thought of spending more money for rings is kind of painful. Especially now, when we are knee-deep in paying for other wedding related expenses. Also, has anyone else noticed that men’s wedding rings seem more expensive than they should be? Mr. Beagle’s wedding ring will be the first jewelry item he will continuously wear, and he was really looking for something simple without diamonds. Just metal. Something similar to this:

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to find anything in our price range during this shopping trip, so we will be going ring shopping again soon. On a happier note, I think I found my wedding ring, and I will be sure to post pictures if/when we decide to purchase it.

Did you find ring shopping tedious?  How did you spice up the process?

Ohh, I like tie #2! Our ring shopping experience was kind of exciting actually. The biggest dilemma was what size we wanted because we were both kind of between sizes (too tight for summer, too loose for winter). I think it helped that the Mr. had gotten to know the jeweler when he was picking out the e-ring. They had even talked about my band options without me knowing!

Oh, and we really like the “comfort fit” (rounded edges) of our bands.

Ring shopping for the husband was a little harder than I anticipated. I believe we went shopping twice for his ring, but we had problem with sizing. It took 3 ring sizes to finally get it right. Even though we sized his finger, it just didn’t work out until 1 week before the wedding. Needless to say, I was panicking, but it all worked out at the end. Hang in there with the ring!

We just purchased our wedding bands online this week! FI chose a tungsten band (http://www.titaniumkay.com/KOZMA-Tungsten-Carbide-Wedding-Band-Ring-P103480.html) and it was crazy affordable. Perhaps if you’re willing to look beyond brick and mortar stores, online would be a much more affordable option!

I was astonished to find that Overstock.com had very reasonable prices for men’s wedding bands, and had a lot of the simple, classic designs. They carry tungsten and titanium, as well as other metals, and most of them are under $100.

We got Bryan a titanium band from a seller on etsy for $50! I figure it is cheap enough that when we get it if it doesn’t seem ‘nice’ enough then I can just buy him another one!

We bought two rings off Overstock that were exactly what we had looked at in the stores, only much less expensive. The boy is actually wearing one of them now as his engagement ring, and he’ll switch it to a right hand ring after the wedding.

The ties are great! We’ll have to check those places out.

We got J’s ring from http://www.superiorweddingrings.com. It’s tungsten, and he loves it… which is amazing b/c he’s not a jewelry guy at all!

My rings were easy- and my fiance wanted a tungsten ring as many people above have mentioned. But that’s where we ran into problems- he has a size 14.5 ring finger (no, that’s not a typo! he has giant footballer hands) and we couldn’t find a tungsten ring in that size! So we went with white gold for now, and we’ll keep looking for something he really wants or have something made for a future anniversary.

I second the vote for titaniumkay.com. That’s where we got my husband’s tungsten ring for about 1/3 of what the regular stores charge, and are looking to get him another one, now that after a year he has a better idea of what he wants (silly boy!). If you try on something similar at a store to get the correct size, then ordering online is simple. And titaniumkay does laser engraving and it looks amazing. Good luck! Picking wedding bands was one of the most difficult things we did, but we were able to find great deals.

we went to the Jewelry District in LA and looked around a bit and decided on the style we liked (we wanted an exact matching pair).

we ended up buying from e-weddingbands.com which have been nothing sort of excellent! very pleased!

(and yes, we realized that the men’s rings are significantly larger, thus the higher cost)

Our ring shopping was totally unexpected, we were at the mall and I wanted my ring cleaned, so we took a gander at wedding rings I happened to find one that matched my Ering perfectly…so then we decided to check other stores in the mall and do some price checks etc…and this one I originally liked was on sale and being discontinued…we couldnt refuse!

Him on the other hand is going with a palladium ring, but we’ll buy it closer to the date. He really likes the tungsten and titanium and stainless steel rings, but the issue is that they can’t be re-sized…Oh well…I personally like the Palladium, it’s gorge :)

I got the Mr’s ring from this site: http://www.e-weddingbands.com/store/14K-WG-MGCF-Wedding-Bands.html. They were reasonable, engraving was really cheap, and they were fast! I got the ring in less than a week.

I second etsy! I don’t know if it works with your budget but a number of etsy vendors have rings very similar to the one you posted for less then $200.

Yes, ring shopping’s been a headache for both of us. Argh.

I’m taking a full week off from work soon, to focus on to-do list items for the wedding — and use up precious vacation days that won’t roll over come June 1. So I totally appreciated the focus of your post!
