About Mrs. Mascara

It’s Finally Mine

May 20th, 2009 @ 5:20 pm by Mrs. Mascara

I’ve been eyeing the J.Crew silk gala clutch since it came out, but I was too cheap to pay $88 for it, plus shipping. I’d been waiting and waiting for it to go on sale, and then a few weeks ago, it finally did. At $59.99, I still wasn’t convinced I wanted to spend that much. I’m cheap and I can make purses, even if I didn’t really want to make one. So I decided to take my chances and waited for it to come down in price even more. It didn’t. Instead, it SOLD OUT. And I was sad.

(source)

I realize it’s just a clutch, and is not by any means something that I need to have on my wedding day. But I liked it. A lot. There is no denying how well it matched my shoes!

(source)

After it sold out, I was surprised by how disappointed I was. Yes, I could try to make something similar, but really, I don’t have the time or energy to spend making a clutch when I have a million other projects that I need to work on in the next few months. I really didn’t want to spend the time looking for another clutch that I liked either, because I am what some may call “picky” (I like to say “selective”).

Luckily for this lazy bride, yesterday on the Weddingbee boards, lovely reader LilMisPriss so kindly informed us that J.Crew had added more silk gala clutches in ivory to their website! I immediately purchased one, and now I have one more accessory to check off the list of things to buy. Now all that’s left to do is wait impatiently for the postman to bring it to my doorstep!

P.S. Sadly the clutches have sold out again in ivory. Hopefully a few more will magically appear in case there are any other brides who’ve been looking for this clutch!

Did you wait for any wedding purchases to go on sale, only to find that they had sold out? Did you end up getting what you wanted in the end?

Awwww, happy to hear you’ve got the clutch of your dreams. I love the idea of a wedding day bag, because you’ll for sure use it in the future, and it’ll have such powerful sentimental value with each use!

J. Crew is always a source of disappointment for me. Last fall, right before my wedding, I was eyeing the velvet Ecole jacket in bright blue. I didn’t have the funds to buy it for the wedding ($150 at full price), but I figured I’d be able to pick one up on sale later (now at $75)… but it sold out.

I tried eBay, but I couldn’t bear the thought of paying any more than the $75 sale price, and then they all sold out there, too. But if they just recently sold out at J. Crew, then it’s worth a try!

I bought that clutch, too! Unfortunately, I ultimately decided that it was too fancy for my wedding, and I sent it back. I need to find something more along the lines of a vintage leather clutch, but I agree that the JCrew one is absolutely beautiful - especially with your shoes!

For anyone looking for similar clutches, there are quite a few talented etsy sellers at etsy.com who sell silk clutches that are just gorgeous! I have my eye on one in particular but I can’t seem to make myself buy it! I guess I should wait until I buy the shoes, right?

It does match perfectly with your shoes, I’m so happy to hear that you were ablet o find it. I run into that problem myself, because I hate spending retail. I bought a basket for holding my flower petals in and later realized I should get the other sizes/shapes of the same style for other items; like programs and bouts, but they had completely sold out. We all live and learn… ;)

I wanted the same purse! But, my guestbook was sold out. I was sooo heart broken because it took me forever to find a book that I loved. I called the company and they stated that they were getting some in by the end of this month and that thy could complete my order. Something always seems to come through at the last minute!

That is lovely. The shoes too! I found a clutch I love, but it’s pewter and my shoes are going to be blue. I doubt anyone besides the wedding party would see me with my clutch, anyway.

your shoes are TOOO cute!

I ended up getting a more casual printed wedding day clutch from an etsy seller….so it could be a little more reusable!

This clutch is still drool-worthy!

@ilovetommy, @ms. b: My shoes are by Ras, I bought them on Amazon. They have a bunch of different colors.
