About Mrs. Yorkie

Our Love Runs Strong... and Long! : wedding relationships Mkmiam

I just realized that in my cake-crazed, DIY-fueled scramble toward the Big Day, I’ve forgotten to tell you about my absolute favorite part of this wedding… Mr. Yorkie!

I should start by sharing exactly how we ended up together. It’s a long, lovely story, but I’ll try to keep it short. Basically, even though we’ve worked at the same place for nearly five years, we exchanged little more than passing glances and the occasional “hello” during the first two of those years. It wasn’t until July 2006 that something finally happened.

That summer I was talked into attempting the impossible by training for a marathon. (You must understand, before then, the last time I even tried to “run” was in high school — 10 years earlier and definitely not by choice — for the distance of one mile, for which I remember much huffing and puffing.) Luckily, I wasn’t alone in my 26.2-mile pursuit and had the mutual encouragement of everyone else in the training program, which included a familiar face: Mr. Yorkie’s.

After Saturday morning training runs, groups would traditionally head off to breakfast together while discussing the likes of paces, splits and intervals. Somehow, I ended up with the group at Einstein Bros. Bagels. Among that group was Mr. Yorkie, with whom after a couple of weeks, I slowly began sharing details of my runs. Soon we were having running chats in the lounge at work and exchanging full-fledged smiles when crossing paths in the hall. We’ve been running strong ever since.

In January, I completed my fourth marathon… in the same exact way I’d finished the previous ones: with Mr. Yorkie running right alongside me (long after finishing his own races, of course!). With eight full marathons to his credit, we’ve got quite a medal collection going. :)

Who knew that love would find its way to me at a time when I was drenched in sweat and without a stitch of makeup on?!

Wow, I’m so impressed by you and Mr. Yorkie! Mr. Bruschetta and I love to work out, but have never attempted anything as intense as a marathon — congrats to both of you…and a really unique “meet cute.” ;-)

I love stories of couples who met while running :)

BTW I totally despised running in HS too. Mr. Bear Cub really got me into running a few years ago - now I can’t shake the addiction! :)

What a great story! I love that he crosses the finish lines with you, that is too adorable! You guys are amazing, congrats! I wanted to run a marathon, unfortunately I had a medical issue that prevented that much so I stick to olympic and sprint length Triathlons.

Anyhow, mr Y and I met at work also! I no longer work there, but we had instant sparks. Held it off for a month or so and became good friends, then decided “why hold back?!”

I love your love story. FI and I run a 5k with each other every week, but he won’t do marathons with me. Maybe some day :)

What a great love story!
I am not sure I can get FH to run a marathon….not yet anyway. But I know he’ll love to come along for support when he can.

Such a great story.

How cute! My hubby and I got to know each other with him walking me to and from the gym our last year at CAL. I like the elliptical and he likes basketball. :P And when I ran a half marathon, he cheered and waited until the final moment of crossing the finish (though for one of the miles he was driving next to me… I told him to go park and come back on foot. hehe).

What an awesome story and congrats on the marathon. We met at work too, although weren’t brought together by running he got me into running. I couldn’t run a mile to begin with and suddenly he talked me into a half marathon this spring. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life and when I saw his smiling face waiting for me close to the finish line it pushed me on. I have to stay I still can’t imagine doing 26.2 knowing how my legs felt at 13.1

I started taking Tae Kwon Do classes about 4 years ago at the same place where my now boyfriend and his brother were also taking classes. I was really interested in the brother at first, but I was incredibly shy and rarely ever spoke to him. I finally bit the bullet one day in May 06 and invited both of them (my boyfriend as the cover!) to go see a movie with a couple of my friends. The brother didn’t even reply to my invite, but my boyfriend came. The next week he asked me out, and we’ve been together ever since. :D Now it’s a running joke that I used to like his brother, haha.

I LOVE your story! As a fellow (half) marathon runner, I can appreciate the hard work, determination and perseverance that is needed to complete long distance running. I think it’s amazing that on top of that, you found love!

:)! yay for marathoners!

my hub and i met back in elementary school — i had a crush on him then and eventually found him again on myspace 15 yrs. later. we met about a month before i was to run my 7th marathon and the night before (our 3rd date) he was so careful to make sure i didn’t twist my ankle. After that, he took up running and we ran a 1/2 mary together. 3 months later, he ran his 1st marathon and we ran in together too! we’ve since run 3 marathons together and we finish together each time (yep, I’m actually faster than him so my time actually improved when i ran the last one on my own :P).

running (and cycling) are our favorite bonding activities, so glad to hear of other couples out there that share this!

Yay marathoners! My SO doesn’t understand why I run marathons, but he is always there to cheer me along. In fact, knowing that I would see him at mile 23 was the main thing that got me up and over Heartbreak Hill in Boston last month!
