A while back when I got the pattern for the BM dresses, I picked up a retro fifties-looking swing dress pattern just for kicks. I thought I’d have my mom make it for either my rehearsal dress, or maybe a dress for the reception.

I decided that I probably wouldn’t be able to really kick up my heels (who says that anymore? I just did) wearing my slim, sheath wedding gown. So I asked my mom to sew the dress for me to wear sometime during the reception (maybe a sort of getaway dress). I picked it up this past weekend! She did an amazing job on it! I was so pleased! (I’m going to encourage her to open an Etsy shop for veils and BM dresses or something.)
But, my poor mom, she’s worked so hard making all sorts of things for our wedding—I need to do something nice for her. She hadn’t finished her own dress, and I’m not sure she’s really happy with it, so I think I’ll buy her something…
Anyhoo, I really love the collar detail on this dress!

The question is shoes. Which looks best? The patterned peep toe, pointy beige, or poofy aqua slingback?

Which shoe do you like best?

Your mom is so talented!
I LOVE the dress. So classy yet fun! I like the blue aqua shoes the best.

Patterned peep toe! Wow, your mom is amazing talented — and that dress looks so good on you!

I like the peep toes and the blue! I’m wearing an off-white dress and patterned peeps for my civil ceremony too!
I like the patterned peep toe!
your mom’s amazing - that dress is rockin!

WOW, can I borrow Mama Perfume for our wedding?! She is amazing! You look amazing in her creation. Regarding the shoe choice, I love the look of #1, too. ![]()

The dress looks amazing!!! And I like the peep toes!!
It’s hard to tell for sure, but I’d go #1 as well. I don’t really like the pointy toes pair, and I do like the aqua shoe but it might distract from your awesome dress.

I can’t believe your mom made that dress. It’s amazing! She is quite the seamstress. I would love a dress like that!
Since the photo is so small, I am having a hard time deciding between the pointy beige or poofy aqua slingback –- either one would look fabulous.

That dress looks amazing! and I vote for the aqua poof ![]()
Wow…..let us know if she opens an Etsy shop!
Gorgeous!!
Anywho I vote for the peep toes, so glamourous!
LOVE the dress!!!! And you look gorgeous in it! #1 shoe for sure!!!!!
Patterend peep toe for sure! The blue is a bit off with teh dress color and the poity ones are too heavy for the dress. The peep toes are perfect!
Love that dress! Your mom is the best and she sure should open up an Etsy shop. Let us know when she does! As for the shoes, #1 or #3 for sure. If we can see a larger photo of them I’ll be able to give you a better answer. ![]()
I vote for the peep toe, too! And I want to borrow that flattering dress!

Of course the Peep Toe. Why do you ask such silly questions?? LOVE the dress. Mama P is very talented.
Definitely patterned peep toe!! I LOVE this dress! So beautiful!

PEEP TOE PEEP TOE PEEP TOE!
*cough* the peep toe looks lovely. ![]()
That dress is perfect for you - your mom is so talented!
Can you make them any bigger? I think that the aqua poof looks great color-wise but I can’t really make out the other two.
That dress looks fantastic! I like the peep toe shoes the best with it.

This dress is aaaaaamazing!
My vote - peeps or blue
Hmm….this could be another good project for Momma Stiletto
She’s also an excellent seamstress!

So cute! Peep toe, for sure. Looks good with an open toe!!! I love the neckline too.
I like the pointy beige - and where on earth did you buy them?
Oooo pointy beige!!
I LOVE that dress. It looks so hot on you!
I gotta go with the neutral pointy toe. It lengthens your legs and doesn’t detract from the fabulous collar. ![]()
peep toes…and I can’t believe your mom made that dress! It looks fabulous!
I would totally buy a dress if your mom opened an etsy shop! Love the peep toe!!!!
What a gorgeous dress! Your mom is very talented. I like it best with shoe #1–the patterned peep.
What type of fabric did your mom use? Because I know some fabrics can be difficult to sew, but this looks great. I might have to ask my mom to whip together something. ![]()
I love the aqua because it pops but if I could see the first one better it might change my mind… but forget the shoes that dress is swoooonworthy. Mama P is uber talented. I want that dress the collar is divine
i want that dress! the detail is amazing! It’s beautiful.
my vote is for patterned peeptoe!
I really like the peep toe, but the teal one is a FUN pop of color!

I crush on those poofy aqua slingbacks! & since funky colored shoes weren’t a good look with your wedding dress, I say kick up your hottie heels in those babies!! ![]()

Oh, and I was thinking the same thing as I looked at your dress - your mom should totally open an etsy shop!! WOW, it is FAB!
I love the dress! As for the shoes, definitely the peep toe! They complete the outfit!
First off, I can’t believe your mom made that dress!! If she opened an Etsy shop, I would be one of her first customers! =)
As for the shoes, I think the first pair looks best. =)
Patterned peep toe! The perfect sexy for your reception getaway stunt.
Please do tell your mother to open an Etsy shop because I would buy that dress! I think the peep toes work best.
the peep toes are amazing! love the dress! your mom did an amazing job!

Thanks for the input, ladies!!!! My mom will enjoy knowing about all your compliments!!! Will definitely keep you updated if there is ever an Etsy shop!
Looks like a lot of you like the peeptoe! So hard to decide–sorry the pic is so small.
@ilee: Awesome! I think the ensemble you describe is perfect for a civil ceremony!@flbeachbride: I got them here: http://stores.shop.ebay.com/KITTURAH-BOUTIQUE__W0QQ_armrsZ1
@Golden139: It’s a thick polyester crepe! Don’t you love it that your mom can whip something together?!
@Miss Perfume: Thanks! And yes, I love having a talented and loving mom.
I echo everyone else, your mom should definitely open up an Etsy shop!
I vote for peep toe. I love the dress, the collar is beautiful and it looks really nice with the simple pearls you’re wearing. Your mom is quite talented and generous ![]()
OMG! It took me forever to get past the dress! Your mother is so talented, I am jealous.
BTW, I like the first shoes best!
Your mom is amazingly talented! Can I get the same dress in my size?
I’m a sucker for peeptoe, but the blue is very fun and flirty as well.

LOVE THE POOFY AQUAS!!!!!!!!!!
If your mom doesn’t open an Etsy shop it would be a travesty to the world!
Dang… continuing to read Weddingbee long after my wedding means that I have an insatiable appetite for gorgeous dresses that I can no longer justify. Yours is fabulous. The peep-toes are great, as are the aqua ones.
Totally the peeptoes!
So cute. The dress is incredible! I adore the neckline.
please post a pic of the back of the dress. I bought the same exact pattern!

@Cereza: It looks like the pink drawing on the front of the pattern! But if you PM me your email address, I’ll send you a picture!
Peep toe or beige! I love the pointed toe on the beige contrasted with the full shirt.
I freakin LOVE this dress!!! Amazing. I like the aqua shoes.

I love the dress! I shoe #2.
Please let me know if your mom will open Etsy shop. I’ll buy one dress.! The dress is stunning . Bravo !

@lulu: Will do! Like I mentioned to a couple of the ladies above, if you’re interested in this dress, I can ask her about making it for you. Don’t know what her schedule looks like….but just PM me!
Beautiful dress. Peep toe shoes definitely.
BTW What pattern # did you get from Butterick?
Do you mind if I ask you what pattern number the dress is?

@Honeydew: @dreamlov: Yes, it’s Butterick. Here’s the info on the pattern: Retro ‘57 Pattern B4792 Jacket & Dress S14-20
omg how GORGEOUS are you?? so jealous of your amazing skin (among other things). I love the peep toes!!
peep toe is more youthful fun. closed toes are pretty too but too serious.
I wish I had someone this amazingly crafty in my possession… I choose the aqua poofs!
peep toes!! Your mom is amazing, I wish my mom could sew like that, haha I wish I could sew like that!
What an AWESOME dress!!! Kudos to mom!
I’m partial to the peep toe.
PEEP TOE!!! Please let us know when Mama perfume on Etsy opens because I think she’s incredibly talented!
Like everyone else has already said, this dress is truly amazing!
Wish I had one of my own.
and DEFINITELY the peep toe! ![]()
aqua! its a hard decision, but the aqua shoe is chic and perfect for the dress.
i love the pattern! your mom is amazing!
umm umm…..door number two!!!! [I mean shoe number two!] So classy and fits in nicely with the retro feel. So June Cleaver
PEEP TOE!!
Love the collar, the dress looks so amazing and so designer. Your mom is very talented!

Your mom must open a shop! I would be a customer!!
And I like the peep toes ![]()

So, after all of these responses…which did you choose?!?! Or do we have to wait & see?? ![]()
Can you tell me where you got the aqua poofy shoes? I have been looking and looking for a pair like that for my wedding. Thanks!

@Mrs. Quiche: Oh boy, oh boy!! Overwhelmingly, people vote peep toe! I was really hoping to wear the blue poofy ones (as you so sweetly remembered). I think it’s between those two!!! Oy, so I guess we’re going to have to wait and see!! ![]()
I forgot how cute the blue shoes were. I have a feeling that if you post a larger picture of the peep toe and the blue shoes and take a poll, the results won’t be as much of a landslide. ![]()
The blue ones! Picture on the right! Those are so awesome.
patterned peep! very sexy! the blue’s cute but sorta distracts from the dress (IMO).
you are one classy & gorgeous lady and your mother - my oh my - so talented!!! she may just be the ‘next big thing’ on etsy ![]()

#1!
Btw, your body is rockin’! And that dress is to die for! I may have to come steal it from you! lol

About Me: I'd like to think that I'm a modern day Little Edie Beale. Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.
