About Mrs. Joey

Yes, those are ZZ Top lyrics. Sorry. ;)

This is the story of my sharp dressed man, starting with the suit.

I had dreams of Mr. Joey waiting for me at the altar in a snazzy grey suit. Lighter grey, not charcoal. Something like this, but without the shiny lapel.

Or like this:

But Mr. Joey already had a charcoal grey suit with faint blue stripes in his wardrobe. He had to buy it for a wedding, and it’s not his favorite suit — it has pleats. He said he’d rather buy a black suit, since he didn’t own one already and he would get more use out it. How am I, Ms. Wear-it-Again Wedding Dress, suppose to argue with that. So, we went about finding the right black suit for the big day.

We thought it would be easy, but it wasn’t. Why are non-pleated pants (at a reasonable price) hard to come by? We went to a few Banana Republic stores and none of them had his size. We tried Macy’s and Nordstrom, but there was nothing in his size without pleats under $700 that looked good.

We decided that we’d check in Orlando while we were there vacationing with Mr. Joey parents. Very early one morning, FFIL Joey drove us out to one of the many Orlando area outlets. He said we should look there first. We went to what felt like every store, and were just about to give up, when FMIL Joey suggested the Brooks Brothers outlet. I was hesitant to go in. I was sure we couldn’t even afford to shop at the Brooks Brothers outlet.

All I have to say is, “Cha ching!” Mr. Joey found a suit he liked, in his size, without pleats, and way under $700.

At the Brooks Brothers store, the suit retails for $998. At the outlet, the regular price was about $600, but because it was a few days after Christmas, it was 50% off. Holla. On top of that, we got 25% off for shopping before noon (thanks FFIL Joey) and an additional 15% off from a coupon FMIL Joey picked up at the mall’s visitor center. The suit came out to less that $200! It’s not the grey suit I envisioned, but Mr. Joey loves it and is happy. So I’m really happy.

Did your groom end up in the suit you envisioned for him?

Next up? Underneath the suit. And no, I’m not talking about underwear! :)

That is a fantastic deal!!! We had the tailor at mens warehouse remove the pleats on fiance’s suit, thank goodness pleats are not my favorite either.

My fiance imagines himself in a black tux and I imagine himself in chocolate brown suit. I am not sure yet on who will give up on their vision :) Oh and pleats be gone!! I actually had a guy at men’s wearhouse tell my fiance the pleats are hide his pooch, I’m all NO to make it look more evident!!

Wow! Great deal! We went with renting tuxes, but also bought FI a suit from our BB outlet because it was too cheap to pass up!

THANK YOU! We are in the midst of last minute suit shopping for my FI since he’s lost a bit of weight and the one he’d planned to wear looks a bit large on him now. In the pre-wedding craziness, I had completely forgotten about the Brooks Brothers outlet about 30 minutes from our house. Perhaps they will be having Memorial Day sales this weekend…..

My fiance bought his suit, plus 5 for his groomsmen and 2 for my dad and his dad for the high price of… $84.86 each (tax included!)!!! We had been searching for shirts for a long time and I came across some at Marshall’s the other day on clearance for $10! And they had everyone’s size! Next up, ties. But basically a wonderful linen-look light colored suit, light bluish/aqua shirt and orange tie will end up costing them about $120!! Not too bad!

Okay…a few comments…
1) The kids at work called me “old” for singing this ZZ Top song on Sunday. I’m only 23 :( haha
2) My FI doesn’t do pleats either, and if so many men dislike pleats, WHY are they everywhere?
3) Brooks Brothers outlets rock out! We find some awesome deals at outlets near our house too!

and 4) Glad the shopping went well! :)

I love my honey in his BB suits. He hates pleats just as much as I do. YOU totally need to hook him up with a non-iron shirt from them. They are amazing. They stay wrinkle free all day.

Sweet! I love men in grey suits too - but I have a feeling that Mr. Mary Jane will opt for black as well. What a great deal you got!!

That is the most incredible deal. Every time you mentioned one aspect of the discount, I was thinking, “that must be it, there can’t be more” — then there was! Congratulations on getting a sweet-ass suit for almost nothing!

@KikiLoo: “I actually had a guy at men’s wearhouse tell my fiance the pleats are hide his pooch, I’m all NO to make it look more evident!!”

According to this website(and a few others I’ve seen but this is easier to find) pleats are supposed to be better for men with a pooch. “Pleats, again only if worn on the waist, can be flattering for larger men. They mean that their trousers fall straight down rather than going in first, highlighting a belly.”

thats an awesome deal! I had a little trouble with my groom compromising on a suit for our wedding. My dress is ivory and I had envisioned a whole color scheme of the guys wearing brown suit, my bridesmaids in blue, etc. It sounded perfect to me. But…my FI is 6′3 and heavy. He was worried about how a brown suit would look on him. He refused to wear it and my dreams of the pperfect color scheme wre shattered! But he and his groomsmen are all wearing black and I help them pick them out so I am now happy with thier decision…kind of!
