Invitation Orientation

May 21st, 2009 @ 9:30 am by Mrs. D'orsay

After taking our invites in and out of the envelopes a few times, I realized the purpose of a belly band - to keep everything together! Without a band to hold everything together, a few of the slips could go unnoticed in the envelopes. We headed to our “local” craft store (about an hour away) to check out the supplies available to create a belly band.

The vellum options didn’t wow us, and finding chocolate or the right kind of purple ribbon was proving difficult. We stumbled upon a few wraps of satin ivory ribbon near the checkout, which we quickly grabbed, and headed out of the store. I think Mr. D and I had both reached the limit where we’d like to stop thinking about the invitations, so we were happy to find a resolution and get out of there.

Thanks to Miss (soon to be Mrs!) Taffy’s and Mrs. Emerald’s bow tutorials, the D’orsays have a plan for the English invites. But, which orientation to choose?

Option A, Vertical Left Aligned:

Option B, Horizontal Center Aligned:

Option C, Vertical, Left Aligned, with Center bow:

Mr. D is also pondering using a paper clip underneath the ribbon to preserve the brown border from being covered by the RSVP/reception cards. Would a paper clip be odd?

How did you keep your invitations all together?

“C” feels the “neatest” to me, but I also love how the cute little birdies are popping out to say hi in option “B.” :-)

option B looks very symmetrical and organized. I would go with B.

I like C the best. Don’t forget, things will probably shift during mailing!

i like B, it’s all nicely centered and all of your text will be facing the same direction.

I like C– left alignment and centered bow. I think it also gives just the right glimpse of the design and allows the opener to discover the RSVP birds later. :)

I see no need to preserve the border (for the same “glimpse” reason above). Like lc2be said, things will probably shift a bit when mailed anyway.

I like C too. I don’t think I would use a paperclip… it will mess up the edges of your paper!

Options B and C look great! I would skip the paper clip though.

I’d go with C, but like someone else said these things will likely shift in the mail. So don’t worry TOO much about this :) And I’d skip the paper clip as well.

I like A and C.

But I would suggest putting them in an envelope and throwing each option around a bit. See what will happen after they have gone through the mail! That may help make your decision a bit easier.

I vote C. But when you stuff all that into the envelopes, it might turn into A. But I still like all the inserts facing the same way as the invite.

I like option C.
maybe instead of a paperclip, you could use a tiny tiny dollop of glue? Something that would stick just when you need it - and then when they open things, it would separate easily.

I totally missed the birds in option B!
I think you should go with B, then - everything will stay together better that way, anyways.

i like A. we did our bellybands with the monogram off-centered. it made it look stylish, i think!

everything else was aligned to the right, which made sense to us because once everything is in the envelope, that position is the ‘bottom’ of the envelope and should stay in place.

I like A, I like when things arn’t so standard and with the bow off to the side, it makes the invitation ensemble a little different :)

I hate to be a downer, but in my experience, the contents shift around so much in the mail, it doesn’t matter what order they were in to being with.
