I’ve been struggling with what I want to do with my short hair for my wedding day. I won’t be having a professional hairstylist, so whatever I do must be something I can do myself. And remember when I said that the makeup gene skipped me? Well, the hairstyling gene did, too. So the extent of my wedding day hairstyle will probably involve me (or my mom) attaching something to my head to make my daily hairstyle look a little more fancy.
First off, I love these styles.

I have always thought birdcage veils were ultra-classy, and floral/feathery details add a flirty feminine kick. Doesn’t Miss Cheese look stunning in hers? And Mrs. Sea Breeze is such a cutie-pie. I think these veils look great on almost everyone. But… this kind of headpiece is probably not for me. I have an issue with clothing that has big ruffles, flowers or bows, too. I love the way they look on others, but when I put them on I feel like the biggest dork in the universe. Yes, I know that a girl’s wedding day is the best time to wear something you otherwise never would… but I’d feel silly. It’s not really a confidence thing; it’s more of a personal-comfort-zone thing. I’d feel like I have some kind of big hilarious object randomly placed on my head…

Have you ever seen a cat with a piece of tape stuck on its head? As usual, YouTube comes through with some prime examples of this phenomenon. That, my friends, is how I might look on my wedding day if someone placed a medium-to-largish fascinator (or even an understated headband!) on my head.
I do intend to find a birdcage veil and/or fascinator and try it on before I completely discount the idea, but I’m not optimistic. However, when I became a short-haired lady a few years back I did develop a tolerable acquaintanceship with barrettes (as long as they aren’t too big). They keep my hair out of my eyes, so I approve of them. I decided that I could possibly rock a cute barrette in my (usually side-parted) hair without too much psychological discomfort.
So I turned to Etsy.
Etsy seller OhFaro had a lot of really cool vintagey options, like these hair combs.
Continuing with vintage goodness, BenAndOliver had some great stuff too, including these white Chrysanthemum hair pins.
Remember, my accessories are white gold and pearl… so I’m not sure I can pull off “vintage/retro” or anything made of white plastic without looking mismatched and weird.
If I could nail down some sort of color scheme, I would happily wear one of these fun little creations from RedaretheRoses…
…or HanamiGallery.
This pretty pearly flower from glowtiaras is too steep for my modest budget (given that I’d almost definitely never wear it a second time), but I had to include it: look how cute!
I haven’t bought anything yet, so I’d love your input and suggestions (try to keep it under $20 if it’s a barrette!). Remember, my dress is white, cotton, tea length. I’m planning to embellish the sweetheart neckline on the dress with some kind of brooch or bow. And here’s my jewelry.
Tell me… what would you wear, if you were me? And what are you going to wear in your hair?
(If you’re not sure what you want to wear in your hair, here are some of my favorite inspirations…)
