About Mrs. Bruschetta

Seasons of Love

May 21st, 2009 @ 4:10 pm by Mrs. Bruschetta

Nonna and Nonno Bruschetta wed in early September 1945. It was an oppressively hot day — not at all the mild, early autumn weather Nonna Bruschetta had imagined — and as guests showered the newlyweds with confetti, the tiny colored pieces that fell on her satin gown melted there under the harsh rays of the late summer sun.

(Um, wow. I know I’m a bit partial, but don’t they totally look like movie stars?!)

Mama and Daddy Bruschetta had dated for three years before getting engaged. Once the ring was on her finger, Mama Bru launched into a planning frenzy. Nonna and Nonno Bruschetta worried an unplanned pregnancy had inspired their daughter and FBIL’s hastened engagement. In reality, though, Mama Bru just wanted to have the winter wedding of her dreams.

Mama Bruschetta didn’t even entertain the idea of purchasing her own gown. Instead, she opted to alter Nonna Bruschetta’s, removing most of the cathedral-length train, and creating a snow queen-like cape from the material.

Sister and BIL Bruschetta love Halloween, so a fall wedding was the obvious choice for them. With deep red and chocolate brown as her anchor colors, Sister Bruschetta planned an autumn-inspired wedding that highlighted the beauty of the changing leaves. And signature cocktails — pumpkin pie and toasted almond martinis — put everyone in a fall frame of mind.

The night before the night before (you follow?), Mr. Bruschetta and I pitched in, helping the soon-to-be-married couple transform fresh pumpkins into wedding-related jack-o-lanterns. (All images courtesy of Cindy Patrick.)

And me and the mister? Several factors went into our season selection. We hoped to honeymoon in Europe (details soon, I promise!), but didn’t want this plan to push our wedding to spring 2010. Typically, summer in the city mellows by the end of August, becoming (cross your fingers!) less thunderstorm-y and more mild. And since Mr. Bruschetta will complete his DPT degree in early August — but won’t be able to take his qualifying exam for another month — the timing was right for a late August affair.

(Yes, weddings with bright pops of yellow always seem so summery to me; no, I’m not planning on changing our palette to incorporate the sunshine color. I just loved this board, and wanted to share!)

In what season did you schedule your wedding, and why?

The Yorkie Family is full of educators… so summer was the best time to get everyone together!

I love that photo of Nonna & Nonno! :o)

Winter! I miss New England winters living in Florida. I love the romance and cozy-ness of it. Also, as an ecology grad student, I spend my entire summers far from everyone in Alaska. Winter is far enough from my field season so that I have time to prepare beforehand and so that I will not be rushing off, leaving my new hubby behind right after the wedding.

Oh! Do you know where you found that inspiration board? The link only takes me to a bigger photo, but I’m in love with that P.S. I Love You necklace!

We chose September. We both want an outdoor wedding but didn’t want it to be ridiculously hot-though we are well aware it may be (hoping for heat rather than rain).

My wedding date was an accident. OCtober 31st. I didn’t want a Fall wedding at all. My FI asked me to marry him earlier than I thought he was going to. We were engaged in November 2008 and we didn’t want to wait more than a year, which I would have needed to have my Spring wedding. I couldn’t have done Spring 2009 due to Pre-Cana restrictions. Halloween was unfortunately the only Fall date left. I gotta get over my Spring ideas soon and embrace Fall.

Summer! Simply because, I’m a teacher and my world revolves around the school year. Crazy, I know. It’s also scheduled around both of our birthdays! (What were we thinking?!?!?!)

(sorry! I realized I was so excited about the necklace I forgot to answer your question!) I really wanted a wedding in the fall, but my fiance is deployed until January, so February was the earliest we could set the date.

Summer, June more specifically. We originally wanted fall, mostly because I thought the weather would be a little more reliable (we live in the upper midwest, and spring and early summer weather is notoriously inconsistent). Alas, we wanted time to plan, and a fall wedding would have been such a rush. I’m actually excited we decided on June, since bright summer colors are much more my style anyway.

I always wanted a summer wedding but we opted for early fall (September) instead. Mostly because 50% of the guests will be flying including us and flights are most expensive in the summer. This also worked well with our venue because we are allowed to have a longer reception with a flexible start time since it is after Labor Day and our guests will have plenty of parking directly in front of the building which would have been reserved in the summer so it worked out and we are hoping for warm weather and no hurricanes since we will be directly on the Atlantic!

@ jesstagirl- my fiance and his dad are both military so i know what you mean about waiting for them to be back!
@kayakgirl- we have the same date! at first i did not want that date, but as i mentioned before , the military kind of dictated our availability. now i am embracing it, i mean, he will NEVER forget our anniversary!
@ Ms Brushetta- loveeee nonno and nonna pic! youre right they are classic movie stars! i love pics like that!

I love all your families pictures, soooo beautiful.

We’re having a summer wedding because we wanted ours to be at a camp we often go to on a lake. While winter would make it soooo much more beautiful, and I’d love to have it on the ice there, it’d be freezing. Silly Canada temperatures.

We are getting married in the Fall, mostly because I just got my DPT degree (small world, tell your FH congratulations!) and the summer in DC is way too hot for me:)

We are getting married during the winter. Mainly because living in Florida, any other time of the year could be hot. Our wedding is very springy feeling, I think it will fly over just fine, with average temps that time of year in the 60s all our out of town guest will think it is spring.

That picture of Nonno & Nonna is spectacular! They do look like movie stars! and I love your mothers winter cape :)
We chose August b/c it was the one month of I had in the summer… I had wanted July 4th but I’m headed into finals then, so it just wouldn’t work.

We picked July 10 because it was one of the only weekends everyone could get together. I’m actually having a love affair with September weddings right now. No, no, no! I will not change the date; I will not change the date; I will not change the date. Ah!

Winter! because we couldn’t wait for spring. Winter ended up being much more romantic than I imaged. Think cozy in a cottage in front of the fireplace, with snow falling gently outside the window and candles illuminating the room with their warm glow. Plus, the seasonal discounts you’ll have prior to the big day! I am now officially a fan of winter.
