Goodie! Two Shoes!

May 22nd, 2009 @ 6:35 pm by Mrs. Yorkie

These days, it’s not uncommon to hear of brides with various twos… be it two veils, or two dresses. The idea is to wear one (usually the more traditional style) during the ceremony, and change into the other (oftentimes more modern) for the reception. Every girl has her own reason for the quick change, be it a call for comfort, or a passion for fashion.

Well, while I haven’t yet decided on all of my wedding day accessories, I do know that in at least one way I will be a “two” bride. My twos will be my shoes! (Considering my recent posts, aren’t you glad I didn’t say “cakes”? Ha!)

(source)

Ever since laying eyes on the July/August ’08 issue of BRIDES, I knew that I wanted to rock a pair of fuchsia peep-toe heels under my wedding gown.

I’d previously become smitten with photographs from real weddings, where happy couples playfully reveal their fun and funky footwear, ranging from colorful argyle socks to well-worn cowboy boots. At 5’1”, I’m much too short (and no where near brave enough) to strut down the aisle in my favorite pair of Chuck Taylors. I could definitely pull off the lovely look featured on the cover of BRIDES, though!

Immediately, I thumbed through the magazine, searching for the source of those gorgeous satin slingbacks. Never having been one to indulge in high-end fashion, I didn’t immediately recognize the designer’s name: Christian Louboutin. It wasn’t long before I realized that, with a $795 price tag, I probably wouldn’t be walking around in Mr. Louboutin’s red-soled lovelies on my Big Day. So began my search for pink, peep-toe substitutes.

After browsing the likes of J.Crew, Piperlime, Nordstrom, and Macy’s, I finally found an acceptable substitute on Zappos: Kate Spade’s Loupe sandals in fuchsia. The only problem was that, even with the site’s discount, the shoes were running in the range of $230. Hmm. I only spend half that much on my running shoes, and they last me a good 500 miles. There was simply no way that I could justify spending so much on a pair of shoes! (But, oh, how I LOVED them!)

One afternoon, I stopped by my local Marshall’s with the hopes of adding to the collection of antiqued mercury glass vases that would serve as centerpiece containers during the reception. Walking past the shoe section, something caught my eye. A pair of ivory satin peep-toe pumps from Mootsies Tootsies with pleated detailing across the forefoot and an oval rhinestone buckle.

Glancing at the sticker on the bottom of the display model, I was surprised to see that they were $16.99! I tried them on and they fit perfectly. Granted, these weren’t Christian Louboutins (or Kate Spades, for that matter) but they were a great deal and could always be dyed. So I bought them and breathed a sigh of relief. I could finally check shoes off of my list!

Well, just a couple of months later, I received an e-mail announcing the upcoming sales on Gilt Groupe. I’ll give you one guess as to what would be featured that afternoon. Of course! Kate Spade shoes. Though I didn’t know for certain whether the Loupe sandals would be part of the sale, I figured there was a pretty good chance. So I readied myself for battle (which is necessary in the land of Gilt) and got to clicking. As soon as the sale started, I scrolled down the page hoping to find my fuchsia footwear. There they were! Immediately, I added a pair of 6.5s to my cart (which had never before happened on the first try!) and then took a moment to catch my breath and check out the details. I couldn’t believe my eyes! They were priced at $130! Woo hoo! Needless to say, I spared no time in making those babies mine.

So, long story short, I’ll be sporting two pairs of peep-toe heels on my wedding day! I think I’ll make my way down the aisle in the ivory pair, and then slip into my pink party shoes for the reception afterward. :)

Are you planning on any “twos” for your wedding? If so, what are they?

The Loupes are mine too! :) They’re gorgeous, eh? And pretty cozy considering the height!

My “deal” is the Dessy ballet flat in midnight (navy) for $28. Still gotta grab ‘em though! :)

I’m so glad you were able to find those heels at a great price!! Like you, I wanted fuschia heels! However, I had trouble finding heels that were less than 3 inches tall. I compromised and found sparkly heels that matched my dress perfectly at DSW. I thought my search for fuschia heels was over. Well, I found them online at Nordstrom… but they didn’t have my size!! I frantically talked to a representative who found my size in Canada and shipped them to me! I can’t decide between the two shoes, so I just may wear both!!

Oooh I really love those Louboutins!!!

I really would like to have a pair of Louboutin ballet slippers covered with swarovski crystals done for me to match a swatch of my dress, that would be my second shoe for when my feet hurt from wearing heels all day.

I do like the idea of having an entirely different heel for each even though! Fun idea! Keep traditional during the ceremony and POP during the party with color! I might do this.

I remember that was when I was first pondering marriage with my guy..and at the grocery store I saw that cover with *THOSE* LOUBOUTINS on it..

I seriously almost considered buying the knockoffs from Louboutinmall, but found imho an equally sexy hot pinky coral show by Marciano..tessa!

I love your Kate Spades Ms. Yorkie! I’ll be (someday.whenever) rocking those pinky shoes too! Pink’s my color!!! (my shoes are on the inspiration collage board I made on my blog’s headline!)

Love both! You won’t be fussed, then, that your heels heights are SLIGHTLY different? (It wouldn’t bug me, either.) :-)

I heart pink. If I were getting married in spring or summer, hot pink would definitely be in our color palette. And I’d probably find an excuse to buy those Louby’s!

Beautiful!

I’m wearing two veils that I made myself because I couldn’t decide between a birdcage and a shoulder-length scalloped edge veil. I figured since I made them myself (a whole lot cheaper than buying them in a bridal salon!), I could justify having two :)

I am also a 2 shoe bride. 3.5″ platforms for the ceremony and Etnies sneakers for the reception. I can’t wear heels for long and I LOVE my Etnies (they are black with silver stars all over them - stars are playing a part in our decor :)).

Yes! I will have two pairs of shoes also. I haven’t fully decided on the pair I’ll be wearing during the ceremony, but I bought a pair of darling “ruby slipper” type flats for my reception :c)

Love your shoe choice! I’ll have two pairs also. I haven’t fully decided on my shoes for the ceremony (I keep changing my mind LOL) but for the reception I bought a cute pair of “ruby slipper” type flats that were on sale @ Le Chateau.

Fabulous! I just found a great deal on the Loupe’s too…and then fell in love with Stuart Weitzman’s Gigi Ritz. Lower heels (cause we’re the same height) and price tag are a goal, but they are so pretty!

I’m a “two” bride myself. Because our courthouse ceremony will be on a different day than our reception, it would be silly to wear the same ensemble 2 days in a row, not to mention, I’m afraid my dress will get dirty and my shoes badly scuffed. That being said, my reception shoes are fuschia as well! I couldn’t find an affordable pair that had the aesthetic I was going for (affordable meaning less than $100). I love the neutral tone with a splash of color aesthetic . . . so I found hot ones from Dolce Vita. Yeah, over my budget, but after 3 months of searching, I gave in to these: http://www.shopdolcevita.com/detail.aspx?ID=768

The heel is an actual cream leather color and the fuschia is not fully saturated, which is better. But I love them. Now I just have to practice walking in them!

Two shoe and two veil bride.

I wore bright green heels for the ceremony and green and white polka dot flats for the reception.

I also changed from a cathedral veil to a shorter one.

that issue of brides was the first wedding mag i bought post-engagement!! and i love it…and pink shoes =)

my mom STILL doesn’t get it, and loved telling my family in a shocked voice how i’m wearing pink shoes.

i was going to get louboutin’s viva lola…..but once i found kate spade’s clarice….i was sold. shorter heel, which is a plus since the boy is only 4 inches taller than me…and about half the price. at $300…but still =)

Oh Christian! Why Why Why much you be SO out of our budget?
Those pumps are HOT Miss Yorkie! I’m drooling over here. I know what you mean about the price tag though, I’m just not ready to shell out that kind of mula for shoes.
I’m planning to have a fair share of twos as well; I will be wearing a different outfit for our reception and getting a different “look” as well (hair/MU, jewelry). My FI and are toying with the idea of having our reception the evening after our wedding day, as well. But that is still undecided.

You know what I think is HILARIOUS, is that although you didn’t end up with Louboutins… you actually bought Manolo Blahnik knock offs. Those silver heels with the buckle? They were featured in the final season of Sex and the City by Sarah Jessica Parker and kicked off a craze for that style, invented/created by Manolo. The real ones cost in the neighborhood of $700 at Barney’s or Bergdorf Goodman’s, and now actually come in hot pink too. They are called “Sedaraby”.

Too funny. Just google “sex and the city woman’s right to shoes” or silver shoes, etc. It was in Episode 9, Season 6, “A Woman’s Right to Shoes”.

Don’t ask me how I know so much detail… it’s an embarrassing “disease” lol
