Mrs. Perfume, DC Age and Occupation: 36, Consultant (and Part-Time Professor) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 41, Consultant Engagement Date: May 13, 2008 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Venue: The Homestead, Hot Springs, Virginia About Me: I'd like to think that I'm a modern day Little Edie Beale. Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.

Big Arse Hair Flower

May 24th, 2009 @ 12:55 pm by Mrs. Perfume

I’m jumping on the hair flower train. Sure, the oh-so-popular trend will date my pics. (Oh well!) I like the trend. But, I like giant flowers. It was confirmed after I saw this on Oncewed.com. It’s highly stylized, only good for editorials and, of course, totally impractical. Perfect!!

Source

So, as you may know, I’m not a crafty person. At all. But I’ll try just about anything. Most of the time it’s a failure, with a capital F. But I’m never discouraged. So… last night I tried making a giant flower corsage (for my rehearsal dinner dress) as practice for a giant flower fascinator. Let’s just say it wasn’t failure. It took me all of 15 minutes, so…

I went ahead and made the hair flower fascinator! (It’s basically the flower attached to a comb.)

Here’s what it looks like on! Talk about giant… and impractical! Therefore, it must be worn (at the reception)!

Are you including anything trendy that you know will date your wedding pics?

It’s gorgeous. And I’m not worrying about dating my pics because there’s no way you can avoid everything that will be a 2009 tell!

I did the hair flower thing. (although smaller because I am just not that fashiony). Yours looks great! Congrats on successful DIY. I dont get the fear of dated pictures! You like what you like when you like it - if you love it on the day of - even if fashion says its silly later, you’ll still love how it made you feel that day. To me - thats the kicker!

It looks great and I think dated photos are a nice window into the fashion of the time. My mom’s cousin wore a big rediculous hat instead of a veil when she married in the early 80’s and while I think it looks stupid and would never do it now, I am sure it was totally stylin’ at the time. I’m jumping on the colored shoe bandwagon and the side part hairdo.

I love it! I am doing the hair flower too, but had it made on Etsy, with a cage veil. Love the feather with it though!

I just paid for my etsy bandwagon, i mean flower! AND there’s a pheasant feather, too! How did you make that?! Or did you just buy a silk flower & add the pearl & feathers? You are rockin’ that giant flower, girl!

your hair flower is amazing, big and beautiful. i think i’m going the hair flower route, deciding between a real or faux flower. that’s my accessory trend. another trend we’re doing is candy buffet because we love candy ;)

You can so pull that off, Miss P! I echo the other posters and would love a tutorial! (P.S. My mother and I spent last weekend making lunchbag hotel bags thanks to your previous post — they turned out so well and I love the whimsy of the brown paper!)
