About Mrs. Duckling

I’m still on the search for my own shoes, but I also need to make a decision on the bridesmaids’ shoes. However, I need the advice of the hive on what to do. I want all the bridesmaids to get their own shoes, but I do want to at least let them know what color to get.

In case you forgot what the bridesmaids’ dresses look like, here is a reminder picture:

The first option is letting everyone pick out their own silver or grey shoe.

The dresses are a light grey, so these would match. Some had concerns it would be hard to match shoes and dresses, although I think that even if it isn’t an exact match, it’s okay, since it is a short dress.

This isn’t the exact shoe, since they would get to choose their own.

The next option would be that everyone could wear a strappy black shoe that they may already have. I definitely don’t want a black pump or peep toe, because I don’t think they would be soft enough for the dress and black isn’t one of our colors. However, it is probably the easiest to find, and most re-wearable. I just don’t want the black to stand out too much, which is why it would need to be strappy.

I’ve also always loved colored bridesmaids shoes, but I don’t want to be super picky and make everyone go on the hunt for a particular color after they were able to save so much money on the dress ($62) and were so excited. But look at this picture from Amelia Lyon. Our colors don’t incude green, but we do have blue and raspberry in the mix. I’m tempted.

So hive, I turn to you for your wonderful advice and thoughts.

What do you think?

Ms. D, LOVE those dresses, but I envison true silver and strappy heels. I think it would be sooo elegant.

Really depends on the look you are trying to achieve. I really like the idea of colored shoes with that dress, as it adds a pop of color and fun. If you want something more subdued, then a gray or silver shoe would be best.

I vote colored shoes as the dresses are so muted. The pop of color would liven things up. I’m not sure what your colors are, but it’d be helpful if it’s a fairly easy color to find/match, i.e. red.

Let them choose their own black shoes, even if they are not strappy. You honestly won’t care, and they will appreciate it.

i agree on the no black . . .in the picture you posted it sort of pops in a not so hot way. the colored shoes would be fun, and light, and cool — the strappy silver would be classy and elegant. i guess it just depends what look you are going for. you can’t go wrong!

I like the idea of a colored shoe. But I think if you’re still going with the raspberry flower for their hair and of course the raspberry bouquet, then there’s your pop of color. So, I would go with strappy silver.

My girls are wearing strappy silver sandals — which I definitely think of as rewearable! And, I feel they would complement your BM dresses best. :-)

I agree with Miss Bruschetta. Silver is a nuetral color. It goes with a lot. Your girls will def be able to wear them again. BTW I picked the grey/silver choice.

colored shoes, same color, of differing styles, would give a hint of uniqueness to each ensemble which would probably make the BM’s happy and look stunning.

what can I say, I am a sucker for hot shoes… in bold colors!! The dresses really lend themselves to being punch-color-loved, and it would let the girls show their personality a bit!

I would definitely go with a metallic silver- will look very sophisticated and put together- and they can wear them again and again-

I vote let them choose what they want to wear, I’ve seen several pictures where all of the bridesmaids were wearing various shoe styles and it looked really cute, comfort level is always a huge issue to me and what is comfy for one isn’t for another. They have to be on their feet a long time so you want their feet to be as comfy as possible.

For sure not black. Look around for colored shoes and see what you can find that is a reasonable price…I bet you can do it and then let them choose between a few pairs!

I like the gray shoe, but not for the dress. I say, pick a color shoe. It lends itself to a fresh and fun aesthetic, precisely because your girls are young . . .

Or, a medium to dark gray if you want to stay neutral. But definitely, not black.

I vote the colored shoes. It would really make them stand out! Plus the BMs personalities could also shine.

I vote colored as well. You’re using yellow in your wedding right? because yellow shoes would look awesome paired with those grey dresses. Although, I don’t know how much rewearability there would be. (although I know I would rewear yellow pumps!)

wow love the dresses! I think black will be too harsh against the dress and it wont go with your palette. A raspberry shoe would look so chic and will make for some super cute photos! :)

I think black strappy shoes would be just fine. I actually think it would coordinate your girls with the guy’s tuxes…which I assuming are probably black with some sort of grey vest/tie? Plus, everyone saves money this way.

I think it depends how sensitive your bridesmaids are to spending money and really, their personalities. I know some girls who would just love to go on a hunt for raspberry shoes and adore the excuse to drop a lot of money on them. But I also know many that would resent it and never wear them again.

So if you really want to avoid ruffling feathers, a more neutral shoe. Only do the colored shoe if you’re positive everyone will be on board with it — it’s not worth making one of your friends upset for one photo op.

I’m really torn. I do not think the black looks great, but I also don’t really love the silver. I don’t think owning a silver shoe is worth it and kind of a waste of $ for most woman. BTW, love the dresses! I think my vote is for colored. I like the idea of the pink and grey or a pretty blue shade.

i bought lime green peep toes for my girls from gojane.com. they were all of $13 a pair, so i just got them for them, and i’m getting lime green flip flops for the reception, in case the non-heel-wearers need a break!!

the soles feel pretty squishy, so i’m hoping they’re comfy!

My vote is for colored shoes since the dress is so muted and I would love an excuse to own a pair of brightly colored shoes. You may be suprised to find your girls already do actually.

This is tough, I originally voted color, because color is so fun, but I love the dresses so much, they are really unique so I think something more grayish will compliment them instead of take away from their unqiueness.
