About Mrs. Joey

The Vest is Yet to Come

May 26th, 2009 @ 2:15 pm by Mrs. Joey

A few weeks ago, Mr. Joey told me he really wanted to wear a vest with his suit. At first I wasn’t sure. I like the idea of a vest but I was a little worried that the suit/vest combo would be too formal for my dress. After consulting with some wise friends, I gave in and told Mr. Joey I was on board the vest train.

We went to Macy’s in search of a vest, and it was like Goldilocks and the three vests. First, one was too small, the second too big, and the third, just right — but out of stock. We found two styles we liked, but they didn’t have his size. The wonderful saleslady called around to 2 stores and finally found the vests we were after in the size we needed.

We thought about black, but then decided grey was better. I was lobbying for a light grey vest — a color similar to the color of my dress. He was after something a little darker. We eventually went with the darker grey, because it was something he said he would wear again. He wasn’t sure the light grey vest was his style. On top of that, the darker vest was $23 after all the discounts! The lighter grey one was $80.

Mr. Joey is a little tired of shopping. This is the vest in a size too big.

Did your groom wear a vest?

My hubby-to-be is wearing a khaki colored vest-suit. Since we’re getting married on the beach in July, we decided that it would be too hot for a jacket and I vetoed HIS idea of wearing cargo shorts and a button up :) so we went for the vest idea.

Express had an awesome suit. Vest + slacks + linen button-up = $138 :)

We considered a vest, but I think he’ll probably go with a jacket (for the ceremony only, since it will be July!). Mr. Bunny feels the same way about light gray. He thinks it looks 80s for some reason. *sigh* What can you do?

Have you noticed that when most men have some clothing item in mind, they know exactly what they want, regardless of whether it exists or not?

Oh, now that is a great picture!

I love vests on guys–they look so dashing and just a bit british, which I love.

I only wish he would do a vest…my fiance is dead set on wearing white suspenders with his black bowtie & black tux, a la James Bond is Casino Royale.

He hasn’t asked for much so I’m happy to oblige:)

SO LUCKY! What an amazing price for a vest! Did you guys have this as part of your wedding budget? I’m curious how over budget or under most brides get… I feel horrible because I have an ideal number in my head for overall budget but I haven’t really laid anything out in paper (spreadsheet) with exact numbers for specifics. I’m absolutely sure I’ll be over budget :(

I think my fiance is planning to wear a vest for our reception, he’s wearing ethnic-wear for the wedding ceremony.

@xLailax: it wasn’t part of our wedding budget but his rings came in $20 under budget so we’re only about $3 over budget for his clothes and accessories.

I’m still trying to talk Mr Frenchie into wearing a vest, but he is not jumping on board :(
I’m so jealous Mr Joey wants to wear a vest.

@Miss Bunny: funny that you said that (abt the 80s). my fiance said light gray made him look like a college professor in the 80s! gaah!

my fiance’s not wearing a vest (he complains abt the heat) but our groomsmen may wear vests with shirt sleeves up for a sorta casual/preppy look.
