Too Legit to Quit

May 26th, 2009 @ 12:45 pm by Mrs. Peep Toe

I talked about the frazzled mess that I was last week, but we finally had a moment of clarity, and all I can say is that the stress has melted away. From here on out, if it gets done—great. Otherwise, it doesn’t matter because our marriage is legit. That is, we have a marriage license.

Last week we headed over to San Francisco City Hall:

Isn’t it gorgeous!? No wonder so many couples get married here. While we were there, we saw four couples getting married!!

Here we are pre-marriage license. Look at our silly, excited, ‘holy shit we are really getting married’ grins. (P.S. - Can you tell that I’ve been using Crest White Strips??)

Doesn’t Mr. Peep look cute filling out the form?

And finally, here we are with our $5 Souvenir Marriage License. The real license was just a boring piece of paper, so I made Mr. Peep shell out the extra change for this baby:

So, $103 bucks later ($93 for the license, $5 convenience fee, $5 souvenir certificate), we are legit. And just so all you SF Brides know, you can only go during the week, and you actually have to make an appointment online and pre-pay for your license (that is if you want to get it from SF County). They don’t just let you show up. The good news is that all you need is your driver’s license. (Other counties may be cheaper, but some also require a copy of your birth certificate.)

What do you need to get your license? How much did it cost in your state and county?

We only needed our licenses. And ours was $70, which I thought was an outrage. Especially since our county building was not nearly as pretty as San Francisco’s!

You guys are TOO Cute! Love the pictures!

Ours (in Falmouth, MA) only cost us $20 and we only had to show our drivers license (actually the scary fact is they didn’t even check our IDs!) and there is a 3 day waiting period, so we had to make a seperate trip just to go pick it up.

I am so excited for you Peep!

Congrats! BTW, Santa Clara County only requires your driver’s license, and it was $78. We didn’t get a nifty souvineer though!

Congratulations!! Your City Hall is quite spiffy, and I would love to fly over to San Francisco for a city hall wedding. The fiance just isn’t so keen on that idea.

In Delaware it costs $30 for a marriage license, which is really cheap in comparison. I can only hope that I can get a souvenir certificate as cool as yours.

I wish we could get a souvenir license! Ours will be $60 I think and we don’t need any proof we are who we are (scary huh?) and only one person has to be present. Since I know all FI’s info from memory that will be me, which sucks cuz then I have to take time off work to go during the week into Baltimore City since we’re not getting married in the county we live in (I don’t understand why you can’t just get a state marriage license)
