Mrs. Bruschetta's Picture
Mrs. Bruschetta, Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 25, Communication Professional Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Physical Therapy Graduate Student Engagement Date: November 30, 2007 Wedding Date: August 2009 Venue: St. Thomas of Villanova Church & the F.U.E.L. House About Me: I’m a self-proclaimed grammar geek who loves singing (like, really belting it) in the car. My mister and I are planning a vibrant summer soiree celebrating our passions – including food and Philly – and when we make it official, we’ll have been together for eight years! Being super competitive is in my nature, and talking excessively is in my genes. I’ve got a terrible sense of direction, but can always easily find my way into Mr. Bruschetta’s arms.
About Mrs. Bruschetta

Hive, I kinda sorta misled you. In my recent post gushing over Peterene’s gorgeous garters, I neglected to include a key piece of information about the order I’m placing. Remember how I mentioned we’re putting a spin on the bouquet and garter toss tradition?

Well, the first tweak is the number of garters Mr. Bruschetta will be tossing. Not one. Not two. Not three. Yup, he’ll be launching four garters into the crowd — one in each of our wedding colors. And that crowd? Well, we’re going to encourage all our male guests — whether single or taken — to attempt to catch one of the four garters. Because attached to each garter will be a valuable little token: a penny.

Huh? Okay, see, after (or does it come before?) the garter toss, I’ll send four mini, monochromatic bouquets into a sea of our female guests (again, we really hope all the gals — married or not — will join in the fun). And tied to the handle of these toss bouquets will be…

… scratch-off lottery tickets! The orange bouquet recipient will pair with the orange garter catcher to play the instant win game (and the same “teams” will form with the red, purple and green bouquet and garter victors)… and hopefully at least one duo will uncover some winnings! And, this twist will mean we won’t have four garters sliding up the legs of our girlfriends, mothers or bridesmaids — which can totally be fun, but is also often a bit awkward.

So… what do you think of this idea? Are you attaching anything to your toss bouquet and garter — cash, gift cards… or something completely different! — to entice your guests to actively participate in this wedding tradition?

I can see that leading to problem if there IS a big win, and the two people (male & female) have no relation to each other. How do they split the winnings? Even if they are family or good friends, there could be some drama afterward…

What a great idea! We were thinking of attaching a Best Buy gift card to the garter to encourage the guys to catch it. I wanted to do a break away bouquet with charms on it, but the toss bouquet is free.

What a fun idea! Where will you store the extra garters the day of? I can’t imagine wearing 4 of them all day!

I’m also sort of dreading the guy who catches garter slips it on girl who catches bouquet moment…right up there with opening lingerie at my bridal shower in front of my mom.

Great idea! I’m using four mini bouquets, bunched up to look like one - so when I throw them they will scatter - and surprise the waiting girls! I’m also going to write a “wish” or fortune on the ribbon around the bouquet.

Will you have an explanation? If I received a scratch ticket I would scratch it immediately unless I knew I was supposed to wait, and then it might be awkward if I had to split the prize with a stranger. Would it be better to have fewer but have scratch tickets on both the bouquets and the garters?

that’s a great idea! we were thinking of tying a $5 or a giftcard, but the lottery ticket sounds more fun :)

LOVE IT! We’re not doing garters/bouquet tosses but I think this is a fun idea. I suppose the “teams” will split the winnings down the middle! :)

Cute–I’ve never felt like participating in the bouquet toss but I might if there was money involved… wink wink

So fun!! We skipped it altogether because I didn’t like the singles being called out, and I’m not a big fan of pressuring people into awkward situations. YOUR IDEA sounds like fun!! We would totally have done that!

What an interesting and thoughtful idea! This sounds like alot more fun than just have the single guys slipping garters up the gals’ gams! I think the “catchers” will be super excited to play!

@Lisa: Good point…but I guess we’ll hafta cross that bridge when we get there. I’m hoping our guests are mature enough to not cause big drama at our wedding.

@LatteLove: Um, I THINK I thought it up — I definitely don’t remember reading about this idea anywhere…but that’s not to say someone hasn’t done it before!

Love the idea! You should get cute glassine envelopes for the scratch off cards that give instructions to find their “mate”
