About Mrs. French Bulldog

Boy, am I glad Mr Frenchie and I decided not to write our own vows. I started to write about our 3rd “You’re-the-One-aversary” and I’m finding it incredibly hard to put into words how I feel about Mr Frenchie. You see, three years ago on Memorial Day, Mr Frenchie and I drove down to San Diego for the day, and while sitting on the grass on Shelter Island, Mr Frenchie told me I was “The One”.

Happy You're-The-One-aversary : wedding anniversary Shtisla

Mr Frenchie was the first boyfriend I had ever said “I love you” to, so the fact that we already knew this was “it” was a BIG DEAL to me. I (like I’m sure a lot of you) always wondered how I would know when I met the man I was going to marry. I heard from many a married (or engaged) friend, “you just know”. You don’t fully understand that until you meet him/her and you “just know”. That afternoon, hearing Mr Frenchie tell me he knew that I was the one he was going to spend the rest of his life with brought happy tears to my eyes and I will never forget that.

That’s it… I’ve tried to write more, but it all sounds elementary to me. If you met me I could talk your ear off, seriously. I.HAVE.A.PROBLEM. I’m like the little kid in Jerry Maguire: “D’you know that the human head weighs 8 pounds?” I just have the hardest time writing it down, and in a way, that makes sense. So, we’ll be relying on the same words many couples have said before. Part of me wishes we were writing our own vows, and the other part of me is really excited to be going the “traditional” route. We’ll be saying the same words our parents said and their parents said, so it’s kinda exciting, actually. :)

Have you decided to write your own vows? Or are you going the “traditional” route like us? Did you struggle with the choice?

The Yorkies are going old school, too! It’s exciting to think we’ll be reciting the same vows that our parents and grandparents used so many years ago. :o)

A great friend of mine who wrote her own vows told me that the emotions of the day combined with trying to read her slightly complicated vows were too much for her to handle. She said if she got a “do-over” she would say the traditional vows and revel in the simplicity of them.

We’re doing the traditional vows, too. Half jokingly, I asked FI if he wanted to write our own vows and he said “No way!” Neither of us are particularly great with words so we’ll just stick to what is already written.

We are going to go the traditional route. I think sometimes writing your own vows puts too much pressure on each other. And there is now way I would be able to express to the FI how I feel about him in words…especially without being a crying, baffling fool!

FI is totally phobic about writing. I don’t want him all stressed out about “screwing up” even though anything he wanted to write would be perfect. I’m not much of writer either but I also love the traditional vows. They are simple and elegant. I can’t wait to say them!

We’re kind of doing a mix.. at least that’s the plan for now. After saying some short, personal vows, we’ll finish with something like, “all this i promise you, in sickness and in health..” I don’t like making decisions, so I usually just combine my options :-)

We’re pretty much writing the whole ceremony to suit us specifically as a couple. I’m in love with the fact that it’s going to be so personalized and so is my honey. Actually, he wrote his vows the other night because he was feeling so inspired, so now I have to get on that!! :)

definitely writing our own vows, our own ceremony, just like comment #8 above.

it means a lot to us to have our wedding feel “us”. and i think writing our vows has made us reflect on and appreciate our relationship more, and brought us closer together.

still, i think no matter whether you go old school or not, it’s the promise & commitment that matter most!

Right now we’re planning to write our own vows, but we haven’t tried writing yet so we’ll see…

We’re definitely doing the traditional route. I feel like we express how much we love each other every day, but I don’t necessarily feel like sharing such personal vows with so many people on our wedding day. I think it would add too much pressure. I know my fiance would rock the vows. He would combine just the right amount of sincerity with a little bit of humor. I, on the other hand, would freak out about the vows from the minute we decided to deliver our own, until the minute we were finished, and would probably just end up blubbering about how much I love him. I’d rather not have to add that stress to our wedding day!
