Flowers: Take 2

May 28th, 2009 @ 11:21 am by Mrs. French Bulldog

Remember my post full of flower over-stimulation? This weekend, the French Bulldog clan (Mr Frenchie, Mama Frenchie, MOH/Sister Frenchie, and I) is going to the winery for the cake tasting (more on that to come) and our florist, Joyce, is going to have a mock-up of our centerpieces for us. Turns out is will look a lot less like this…

and a little more like this…

*Sigh* I’ve been absolutely IN LOVE with that daisy ball centerpiece from Amanda Auer and The Treasured Petal since I saw it on EAD Weddings in December, but I cannot justify the almost $25 more a centerpiece price tag. So I am happily and voluntarily (Mama Frenchie offered for the daisy ball) turning to option #2.
I’ve had a little crush on this style since Mr Frenchie and I went to his step brother’s wedding almost 3 years ago. FSIL Frenchie won our centerpiece, but because I liked it so much, she let me have it.

I still have the base and use it to arrange gerber daisies all the time. However, since we won’t be using votives on the table, our arrangement will need to be a bit larger. I’m hoping we can do this by using globe vases…

This also gives the round shape I liked from the daisy centerpiece. I’m really looking forward to seeing what Joyce has put together.

What have you scaled back on in the interest of saving money?

I love clever little pops of color like the lemon slices!

We nixed the peonies and ranunculus from my dream centerpieces and will end up saving A LOT.

we opted for only candles. I miss the flower idea but it will save us so much, plus we get more room to seat people since we can use rectangle tables. *sigh* i really like yours though!

Our tables are long, so I’m alternating candles and flowers (save save save)…and I’m doing mason jars with flowers in them, so I’m only choosing one or two large blooms, like a hyndrangea or something…but I’ll also be buying them by the stem and doing it myself!

I’m on the fence if I’m going to do lemons in the bottom of the jar…I’ve seen photos with the mason jar and love it…but I’ll have to do my own mock up :)

I’ve had to not only give up my dream centerpieces but also some of my dream flowers that are apparently too expensive.

We’re using Mason jars we already have and putting flowers in those (carnations bunched tightly) and alternating with candles. Look at the dollartree online. They have fabulous square candle holders for $1 each!

@Miss Yorkie: *sigh* I wanted ranunculus SO BAD, but they aren’t in season in August. I wan’t sure about the lemon slices, but I’m really warming up to them now, thanks :)

@vistagirl: I’m sure all candles will look really lovely. We opted not to do flowers b/c our entire day is outside and it won’t be dark but for an hour.

With a great accent color — like the blue in picture two ;-) — I think your centerpieces will look awesome!

The lemons look so fresh! And anything with yellow/white is so cheerful. Definitely adore it Miss Frenchie!

We’re having flowers at our rehearsal dinner and re-using them at the reception. Also the future Mother-in-Law grows green hydrangeas in the garden, so those will come in handy for pew flowers.

Good call on not paying an extra $25/centerpiece…those $$ can come in handy later! Maybe you can have 1 “bulb” daisy centerpiece somewhere else at the reception– perhaps on your table (if you’re doing sweetheart)
