Your Registry Has Gone Universal!

May 28th, 2009 @ 5:41 pm by Mrs. D'orsay

This morning I opened my Gmail to find an email from Amazon. Well, probably more like five emails from Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk, but there was one that stood out in particular. For a while now I’ve been using Amazon’s universal wish list to add items to my wish list. As of this morning however, we can now add universal items to our wedding registry!

So this cute apron and kitchen set from Uncommon goods, as well as these heart mugs, are now getting switched from my wish list to our registry. Not to mention a certain copper compost pail I’ve been coveting, a juicer from Anthro, bits and bobs from Crate and Barrel or Sur la Table… the possibilities are endless! All you have to do is add this button to your toolbar. Hooray!

While I still think Bed, Bath, and Beyond is the “daddy” of wedding registries for their ability to be a brick and mortar store, send out 20% off coupons and have a fantastic return policy - this new feature certainly makes me enjoy Amazon a bit more.

I know there are sites out there like Wishpot that allow you to create a universal wish list, but we wanted to provide our UK guests with a familiar name like Amazon.

Where do you think is the best place to register, and why?

You are a lifesaver! Just yesterday I was having issues with my MyRegistry account. (It made it too difficult for the guests to shop.)
I’ve moved my alternative gift registry to Amazon! Thanks!

Oooh, Miss. Dorsay, Can I copy your ENTIRE registry? LOL, just kidding of course, but that apron set, the juicer, and the copper compost pail are fabulous! You have such great taste!

I registered with BB&B for my wedding. The items they sell are more expensive there than at many comparable retailers (though the 20% off coupon does a good job of equalizing). The online wishlist was a mess- they changed the color of the KitchenAid from red (what I asked for) to purple (what I didn’t) and then wouldn’t take the exchange of a purple one (it was bought out of state by a faraway relative).
Although many people used my registry, I received THREE waffle makers. If the registry had been updated to “fulfilled” after one had been purchased, that would have saved a lot of hassle.
Many friends told us that they wanted to get things, but that BB&B was constantly out of stock.

Also, as someone that loves the planet, the ridiculous amount of overpackaging was sometimes quite frustrating.

BB&B is good for cash returns, but I didn’t like their service at all.

all i know is that the two places we registered at - macy’s and target - really suck. We found all this stuff on their online sites that we liked and wanted to add to our registry. But then each of those stores has a separate website for their registries and when you click “add new items” to registry it doesn’t bring up nearly as many items as you would have on the store’s original website. It’s super annoying! Macy’s is even worse than Target.

I’m wishing we had done Amazon!

I think you nailed it: BB&B & Amazon are the two best! Although I am a huge fan of AmazingRegistry.com for allowing me to put ALL of my registries on one website! But def. you got my two faves!

I didn’t know this until a few weeks ago, but Crate and Barrel actually sends you a check for anything you return and can’t use. I loved all of our registry items but in the end realized we had no room for all the stuff!!

OH MY GOSH!! I am in love with Amazon now too! I actually submitted a suggestion a while back that they make the wishlist universal (a la “wishpot”)! I’m guessing a lot of other people felt the same way, send in requests, and are now delighted! It is great to be able to have everything in one spot - - and I’m loving adding things from etsy! A little hint about etsy: talk with shops you like and let them know of items you want to put on a registry and they can reserve them for you in a special listing!

OH Amazon. I love you.

I’m really excited about using Amazon for our wedding registry. I have a lot of relatives in the UK who won’t be able to come to our Texas wedding. Shopping on Amazon will mean free shipping for them!
