About Mrs. Joey

Dolla’ Dolla’ Bill Y’all

May 29th, 2009 @ 5:07 pm by Mrs. Joey

We got our first official wedding present a few weeks ago. I say first official, because my parents made us an offer we couldn’t refuse earlier. My mom said she wants to gift it in a card, so it’s not quite ours yet. So, back to the first official gift. My friend Katie of the panel let us know a month ago that she couldn’t make it to the wedding.

It was hard news to get, not only because I really wanted her there, but because I also wanted her to see the wedding she helped plan. Katie has been in on a lot of decisions, from the dress, to the invites. All is not lost, though. We might get to have a little pre-wedding celebration in D.C. in June. I’m looking forward to seeing her again — it’s been 3 years!

Anyway, Katie sent us our first official gift. It wasn’t on the registry. It was cash, but with a twist. She sent us Australian dollars to use on our honeymoon! I love the thought and effort that went into such a simple gift. Anyone can give you cash, but not everyone would be thoughtful enough to go to the bank and have it changed into another currency. It’s so thoughtful.

Last week we got our second gift (don’t worry, I’m not going to detail every gift we get). Our second gift was also from a friend who couldn’t make it to the wedding. Instead of cash, they gave us a gift card to Lowe’s. Its intention isn’t to buy the power tools we registered for, but to help us complete (once we start) our new house.

We were at Lowe’s over the weekend and the gift card will cover some decorative tiles we’d love in our bathroom. Again, a great gift. The gift will last longer than most, and every time I look at the tiles I’ll think of my friends.

What simple wedding gifts did you receive or give that really stood out?

P.S. Yes, the title is from the Wu-Tang Clan. :)

Love the idea of giving Aussie notes! Isn’t their money pretty? And I liked how the bigger the currency the bigger the bill is, they aren’t all the same size. What I didn’t like in Aussieland was that they have coins for $1 and $2 so I always had SOOO much change when I was there.

My best friend is, well, messy. Her then-fiancee, now-husband is very neat bordering on OCD :). For a wedding present, I splurged a bit and got them a year of a cleaning service (once a week). According to BFF, this has saved them from so many little arguments about what needs to be cleaned and by whom. For my closest friends, this is now my go-to gift!

@Steph: You wanna be my best friend Steph? I’m sure we can develop a great friendship by my April 2010 wedding haha… every holiday I use my money for a housecleaner. So my house gets a REALLY good house cleaning about 3 or 4 times a year. :) Other then that it’s just the quickies my fiance and I do.

Haha I love it! I’m a big fan of Clorox wipes and the swiffer if that tells you anything about my “thorough” cleaning style…

Thats such a nice gift, I’ve been contemplating what to get my sister, her and her fiance want to re-do their kitchen so they have mentioned home depot cards would be nice, but I wanted to do somehting more special, but when you think of it- the way you put it- everytime they use their kitchen they’ll probablly be really happy, so it is actually a really nice gift.

your friends are super thoughtful, the Australian money was such a nice touch!

Awww I got British pounds as a graduation gift when I graduated from college. (I left a day later for london). It was the one of the best most thoughtful gifts I received. what a very great gift. I would also dig the Lowe’s gift card. I could spend hours in that store.

I got my cousin & her hubby a gift card in Euros…they live in Ireland & were thrilled to get money to buy stuff for their new house. :) I know sometimes gift cards can seem impersonal, but if you know the recipient & whatever their situation/want is….it’s sooooo the best gift.

I love the idea of giving honeymoon currency! I’ll have to bookmark that for a future gift idea!

I got my friend some Euros as a wedding present since she and her now husband were talking about planning a trip to Europe. I was in Europe before their wedding and brought back a bottle of champagne and two nice champagne glasses and some Euros but some things came up in their lives and they have not yet planned this trip (it has only been 6 months since the wedding) but it will hopefully give them a little reminder of their plan to travel.

The honeymoon dollars is such a thoughtful gift! To be able to start out your trip with some cash in hand will be such a nice touch so you don’t have to race straight to the currency excchange. How sweet of her!!
