Oh, the struggles of the first dance song. THE defining song, it seems. I was a little bummed after my last post about this that the lyrics of two of my favorites just didn’t jive with the wedding day. It was difficult deciding if the lyrics mattered as much as how the song made Mr. S and me feel. In those instances, the lyrics seemed to have won out.
Don’t worry, we have another contender! It’s a song that Mr. S suggested a few months ago and I immediately said, “It’s a pretty song, but not for this.” Needless to say, he was a bit upset at how quickly I shot it down. I feel bad that I didn’t give it a chance, especially now that he played it for me again last week and I immediately wanted to use it. Hmm, what a difference a few months can make!
So, without further ado, I give you “Red Right Ankle” by The Decemberists (I wanted to use a Decemberists song before, but the lyrics just weren’t right).
We got our first official wedding present a few weeks ago. I say first official, because my parents made us an offer we couldn’t refuse earlier. My mom said she wants to gift it in a card, so it’s not quite ours yet. So, back to the first official gift. My friend Katie of the panel let us know a month ago that she couldn’t make it to the wedding.
It was hard news to get, not only because I really wanted her there, but because I also wanted her to see the wedding she helped plan. Katie has been in on a lot of decisions, from the dress, to the invites. All is not lost, though. We might get to have a little pre-wedding celebration in D.C. in June. I’m looking forward to seeing her again — it’s been 3 years!
Anyway, Katie sent us our first official gift. It wasn’t on the registry. It was cash, but with a twist. She sent us Australian dollars to use on our honeymoon! I love the thought and effort that went into such a simple gift. Anyone can give you cash, but not everyone would be thoughtful enough to go to the bank and have it changed into another currency. It’s so thoughtful.

Thanks to the power of Facebook, I’m able to share some of the non-pros taken by my family & friends. Our wedding went really well, despite a couple of hiccups. I’ll tell y’all about that later.
There are certain moments in life that, try as I might to recall them in color, appear in my mind’s eye only in black and white.

This was one of them: my fingers trrrrrembling as I put on my earrings, my grandmother looking on with such pride and love, my best friends and sisters excitedly milling about as we waited for the knock on the door that would signal the arrival of the groom’s party and the “official” start of our wedding day…

Hi, my name is Miss Bunny and I have trouble finishing what I start.
I have stacks upon stacks of half-finished projects in my closet — a scrapbook for my high school best friend, a stained glass window for my grandmother, a bag full of clothes that I said I would alter rather than toss. Yeah. None of that happened.
FAIL, as they say on the ‘net.

I get distracted, I guess. I moved away and stopped talking to my high school friend. It was much too dangerous to work on the stained glass window in my carpeted apartment, I reasoned. And I just never got around to finding someone to alter those too-big skirts after I lost 35 pounds a few years ago (but hey, I’ve gained some of that weight back so maybe they’ll fit again — doh!).
I worked FOR-EV-ER ago on our save the dates (Sandlot, anyone?). Read more…

I’m not sure I’ve said much about our decision to fire our caterer and go at this ourselves.
When we got engaged, we knew one thing for sure. The rehearsal dinner and reception would be done by Mr. CC’s favorite restaurant. We (read: he) eats there at least once a week. The food is good (most of the time, I’ve had a few things I don’t care for) and the prices are totally reasonable for lunch. The atmosphere is spectacular. The restaurant is in the bottom of an old hotel. The very same hotel that John Wilkes Booth was shot in the 1850s (before that Ford’s Theater disaster). It’s covered in historic memorabilia and knick-knacks. I think I might like this place for its decor more than for its food.
Anyway, once we had compiled most of our guest list, we went straight down to chat about rehearsal dinner and reception options. We knew at this point that we wanted an evening reception (no dinner, and therefore cheaper, right?) with heavy-ish hors d’oeuvres. We picked out a menu (I can’t remember what it was, that was a long time ago) and went back for pricing. And our jaws hit the floor. This particular establishment wanted $20 per person for hors d’oeuvres. I was shocked and dismayed. Especially when I multiplied that number by the amount of people I was assuming would be coming to the wedding (200). I just couldn’t fathom paying that much money for freaking snacks.

Lately, I haven’t been too vigilant with my fitness goals. I guess I assumed that magically, with the pressure of our pending wedding, I would somehow become a workout machine. That never really happened. Oh well, I’m not going to punish myself now.
I noticed that a large portion of my day is spent sitting in front of my computer. Day in and day out, I sit with my shoulders slumped, and sometimes I think I can actually see my butt expanding. Anyhoo, I bought a little gizmo (aka a pedometer), so that now I have solid proof of my inactivity, and I can’t fool myself into believing that a simple trip to the bathroom counts as “cardio”.
I ordered this pedometer off of Amazon.

A world without Etsy?? I know, the horror!
All of you lovely brides-to-be planning in the States should count your lucky stars to have so many wonderful resources at your fingertips!
I may not have Etsy, or alchemy on Etsy, but I do have the talent of local Chilean artists!

La Olla Criolla - fab Colombian food!
See this cute little neighborhood eatery? Inside is a Colombian family that serves the tastiest arepas and jugo de naranja-platano in the area - La Olla Criolla! I’m biased, though - they’re only a block away!
The fantastic part about this place is that Lina, the chef and owner, and her husband are active in the art scene of Coquimbo (the neighboring city to La Serena). They host art shows at their restaurant, and the inside is chock-full of her husband’s work!

My fruit-themed shower is next weekend, so of course I’m stressing about what I will wear. I purchased this blue dress after seeing it in these posts by Miss Crab Cake.

It fits great, but because I’m short (5’2″) I need to get it taken up a couple inches. I could totally wear this and getting it hemmed by next weekend shouldn’t be a problem. However, BM F, the shower host, is planning on wearing a SUPER cute apple dress she bought a couple years ago, to go along with the fruit themedness (still a word). I’m thinking if she’s gonna match, I should too, right?

I’m in love. A friend of mine is planning her outdoor wedding and seriously just about died at the thought of these fabulous details, all from Miss Pickles Press. Check out the wedding that used these fab details, as well!

Captain Hook: You, the cute little urchin in the front row, won’t you share your thoughts with the whole class?
Maggie: Yes, I said mommy reads to us every night, because she loves us very much.
Captain Hook: Loves you? Isn’t that the, uh, the…
Smee: The L word, Captain.
Captain Hook: Ooh, yes. No, child, your mother wants to read to you every night in order to stupefy to sleep, so that she and daddy could sit down for three measly minutes without you. And your mindless, inexhaustible, unstoppable, repetitive, and nagging demands: He took my toy! She hit my bear! I want a party! I want a cookie! I want to stay up! I want, I want, I want, me, me, me, me, mine, mine, mine, mine, now, now, now!
So maybe the whole story doesn’t relate, but the “I want, I want, I want, me, me, me, mine, mine, mine, now, now, now” seems to be uttered quite a bit lately, and I think Mr. Gloss may have some opinions about the “inexhaustible, unstoppable, repetitive and nagging demands”.
In just a couple of weeks, Mr. Yorkie and I will stand on this beach shortly before sunset and pledge our lives and love to each other before 120 of our family and friends.
If it doesn’t quite look like the flashy, fast-paced scenes of Miami Beach that you’ve come to know from shows like Miami Vice and CSI: Miami, there’s a good reason. This isn’t Miami Beach. It’s Matheson Hammock, Miami’s very first park and best-kept secret.

Once we made our grand entrance outside, and seeing all our guests enjoying themselves with a little cocktail and hors d’oeuvres, the stress finally disappeared… and we knew it was time to relax, enjoy, and savor every moment of our wedding reception.
When guests walked in, they looked for their names on our chandelier tree. I had written their names and the table numbers, but in case they weren’t certain, I made a seating chart filled with glam clear rhinestones.
