I would like to admit that registries give me a headache. Mr. Ballet Flat and I registered a few months ago for the basics: flatware, blender, Crock-Pot, As Seen on TV detox foot pads. You get the idea. There was another temptation that was unexpected: FREE stuff!!
Yes, free stuff. You can get stuff when registering for a good chunk of merchandise that is of one brand, and even more stuff for people actually purchasing you all of those things. It was tempting to go in there as Joe Blow and Anna Banana and just register for obscene things for free stuff, but we didn’t. (Yes, I know that’s completely wrong to do… it was just a funny, innocent thought!)
This past weekend, however, as Mr. BF and I were adding a couple more registry items (we realized we needed curtains!), Target gave us a book with mainly advertisements for the expensive stuff that they want you to register for. Pfft… I try to avoid such books, because it tempts me to want things that we really do not need.
I flipped through it, however, because Mr. BF was clearance shopping for electronics (ah fun!) and I am currently trying to save my money for Mickey souvenirs instead.

I rarely treat myself to a salon pedicure. I love the result, the pampering, and the massage, but it’s tough plunking down $50 to pay for the service. Doing them myself isn’t so bad, but they never quite have that perfectly polished look a professional can provide.
Last summer, one of my sisters had a really nice pedicure and, when I complimented her on it, she let me in on her secret—they were artificial. I always thought about trying the inexpensive glue-on toe nail kits at the drug store, but forgot about it when summer was over and I put away my flip flops.
For my bridal shower, I desperately wanted the look of a salon pedicure, but, with feeling the effects of being wedding poor so close to the big day, I just couldn’t spare the cash. In came the artificial toe nails. I bought a package for $5 at CVS/Pharmacy and went to town. Here’s how they turned out:

Goodness, my feet are huge! I took this photo a week after application.

Well, Mr. Yorkie and I had our cake tasting appointment at Edda’s on Wednesday after work. I’ll have to admit, it wasn’t quite what I expected. (It was kind of disappointing, to be honest.)
When we arrived, I explained to the woman behind the counter (not Edda) that we were there for the tasting. She quickly replied that it was too late, and tastings were over for the day. (Hmm, even though we had an appointment for 5:00pm… and were on time? And they close at 6:30pm?) The woman then checked her book, found my name, and less-than-enthusiastically handed me a huge binder filled with photographs of their cakes. Somewhat confused, Mr. Yorkie and I took a seat at a little table. Even though I knew exactly what I wanted and brought photographs to explain, we browsed through the binder anyway.
A few minutes later, the woman showed up at our table with a tray holding seven little dishes each containing a different flavor of cake, topped with a messy squeeze of white buttercream and two plastic spoons. She walked away and we got to tasting.

It’s my favorite kind of mail these days! After we received the letter saying the Embassy had our application, we filled out the necessary forms, went to London for a doctor visit, and have been anxiously waiting for the all-important interview date.
Coincidentally, Mr. D’s interview in London is 2 days after I leave the country. Since I’m flying out of London on June 1st, Mr. D will stay behind instead of heading home up north. Here’s hoping we can change his flight on the cheap!
If the interview is successful, he’ll receive his passport back with the visa inside a few days after his interview. The only slightly sour note on this otherwise sweet date? We have to pay $131 for the visa application. This wouldn’t be so bad if I wasn’t already irritated with the government for dumping over $2,000 on top of our wedding budget. I guess the $131 is just a drop in the proverbial $2,000 immigration bucket.
Enough boo-hooing; it’s time to celebrate (and make copies of lots of forms)!!!

I love shoes—this is what happens when you work in a shoe department for 5 years. So, of course, in the beginning, I was super excited about the search for wedding shoes. I really wanted cute shoes so I could get cute pictures:

It was bound to happen. Really. If you know me, you know I obsess and freak out over details, then hit a point where I stop obsessing and start avoiding. That’s what the Oopsies begin.
I forgot to order flowers. Well, technically, I didn’t forget, I just didn’t get around to it. My plan was to order a couple hundred bucks’ worth of flowers from Sam’s Club — they sell stems of roses, daisies, carnations, and other flowers in bulk and ship them directly to you. That was the plan, and my lovely FSIL even lent me her Sam’s card.
But I couldn’t decide which flowers to order, or in which colors, or how they’d look together, so I just didn’t do it. When I logged on, full of determination to push through the discomfort (seriously, it all makes my tummy hurt), I remembered they have a 10-day advance requirement.
Oopsie.
So, new plan.

Stand. Sit. Stand. Sit. Stand again. Kneel. Sit. Stand. For anyone unfamiliar with the Catholic faith, attending or participating in a church wedding can be confusing — for some, boring.
And, as we learned upon reserving our date and time, it can also be overwhelming. A few weeks after securing our spot with the parish wedding coordinator, we received a large envelope in the mail, reminiscent of college acceptance packets. Inside, a reference booklet explained every aspect of our upcoming marriage — from information about the Pre-Cana program to the required documents we’d need to complete prior to the wedding.
At first, this guide seemed like a great way to stay organized, with all the key dates, deadlines and phone numbers in one location.

… the vintage Savannah postcard! They’ll be customized with our information on the back, a circle around the square we’re getting married at in the front, and will be super easy to send (just a stamp, and they’re off!).
The voting was very close between the Funky & Fun STD, and this one. In fact, the Pose Print came in first with 40%, while the postcard garnered 38% of the votes. I really appreciate everyone helping me make a timely decision.
Perhaps having my hair trial done in February for my June nuptials wasn’t the smartest idea ever. Kinda like buying my dress last May. I’ve had too much time to think about it. And the more I think about it, the less I like my hair. I feel like it makes my head look enormous! And, I’m not really crazy about the way my bangs look.
I have a second chance next week. If you’ll recall, my photographer was pregnant and we had to cancel my bridal shoot due to bed rest. Well, she had her baby (and he is perfect and gorgeous) and we’ve rescheduled my bridals for next Friday.
I’ve been looking at new hairstyles. I also found some more makeup inspiration to take to the makeup artist, since I wasn’t terribly impressed with the first trial.
I’ve been strangely drawn to this style:

Why not incorporate culture and food right into the ceremony? Here’s a description of the tasting of the four elements:
In a ritual adapted from a Yoruba tradition, the bride and groom taste four flavors that represent different emotions within a relationship. The four flavors typically used are sour (lemon), bitter (vinegar), hot (cayenne), and sweet (honey). By tasting each of the flavors, the couple symbolically demonstrates that they will be able to get through the hard times in life, and, in the end, enjoy the sweetness of marriage.
I love that this ritual gives us a physical reminder of the various aspects of married life. I can imagine that it must be quite a shock to the palate to taste these elements in succession.

I will admit that when I was first engaged I didn’t want any showers. I just didn’t understand them and didn’t want a lot of hullabaloo made about me as “the bride”. But my FMIL really wanted to throw one and my sister said I needed to have one, so I have decided to embrace the idea. PLUS, when I saw everyone posting about shower dresses, I got extra excited. I just bought 2 dresses from Mod Cloth Online and I am planning to wear them to my showers!
(I am IN LOVE with this dress! It wasn’t cheap at $74.99, but I really loved it. The dress is called “Teal The Show”)
Today’s photo of the day was uploaded by yosusiecho. Her unique table centerpieces included 2 types of orchids, accented by blue water in a rectangular acrylic box.

Cake, of course!
This is one wedding detail that Mr. Yorkie and I haven’t yet checked off of “The List”. Soon enough! I’ve scheduled an appointment for a tasting (mmm!) at Cake Designs by Edda for Wednesday after work. I wonder if one tasting with one baker is enough. Is cake something that you should “shop around” for?
I’ve never been a fan of those fussy, frilly, taller-than-the bride creations that you see all of the time in magazines. It’s just not my style, and I honestly don’t see the point in shelling out that much money on a cake. Plus, I know that some people just aren’t that into cake. So, rather than having cake as our only dessert, I’m opting for a smaller-scaled cake and offering an array of fun bite-sized sweets, like key lime pies, fruit tarts, chocolate éclairs, and mini cupcakes for our guests to choose from.
Back to the cake, though. My ideas for our cake have always been rather simple, though they’ve definitely become more defined as the months have passed. My original plan for our cake (or cakes) was inspired by this photograph from Jordan Ferney’s wedding (Oh Happy Day!).
