I work full time for a Commercial General Contractor (aka my father) and I go to school for Interior Design at night. I love modern design, music, wine, crafting, DMailing, my family, my Westies, and of course, Mr Frenchie! Mr Frenchie and I met 3 years ago on Match.com and have been best friends ever since. I love his "old soul" and how he laughs with his whole body, among many other things. We are planning our summer wedding at the winery near his hometown, just 45 minutes south of Orange County.
Mrs. Crab Cake, Columbus, GAAge and Occupation: 25, Registered NurseFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Director of Education and Living History for a museumEngagement Date: April 6, 2008Wedding Date: June, 2009Blogging Since: November 26, 2008Venue: Holy Family Catholic Church, reception: National Infantry MuseumAbout Me: I'm a perfectionist trying to balance two jobs, motherhood, my craft obsession, and wedding planning. I am obsessed with all things wedding, especially creative ideas for saving money and DIY projects. A Southern Belle at heart, I love anything southern, especially sweet tea, grits, afternoon thunder storms, crab cakes, and good old Southern hospitality. Mr. Crab Cake and I are planning a vintage inspired wedding with tons of Southern flare (can y'all say that with a thick Southern drawl?).
Last Friday I received the call that my bridesmaids’ dresses had arrived. Thank goodness, as I was starting to get nervous. See, only 2 of 7 live here in town, and I had to ship everyone’s dresses out to them. I was concerned that we were running out of time for alterations and such.
So, I scurried over to the shop, picked up the dresses, and threw them in the mail. But not before I slipped into my sister’s gown to check it out. I sort of picked this dress out sight unseen. I’d seen the dress in teal, on me, in a way too small size. I’d seen other dresses in our color, but not on anyone, and I hadn’t seen it next to my gown at all.
Mrs. Perfume, DCAge and Occupation: 36, Consultant (and Part-Time Professor)Fiance's Age and Occupation: 41, ConsultantEngagement Date: May 13, 2008Wedding Date: May, 2009Venue: The Homestead, Hot Springs, VirginiaAbout Me: I'd like to think that I'm a modern day Little Edie Beale. Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.
So, I had my first serious nightmare last night. Among other things, it was about flowers. I dreamed that the tiny start-up florist that we went with used purple mums and some rope for my bouquet. Oh yeah, and a single wilted rose. There were some flowers in some pails in the getting-ready-room (which, by the way, was the green room of a theater) and I tried to put them together, but they kept calling my cue. Wedding, theater, it’s all the same.

I love my job most of the time because I get to travel and work with brilliant people who are trying to prevent Malaria. I love DIY projects of all sorts, cooking, and watching sports. I'd wear anything at Anthropologie and could spend all day on Etsy. I love to travel but shouldn't because I always get myself into unbelievable situations!
Mr. Joey and I finished our last session of required pre-martial counseling/Pre-Cana yesterday. Now that it’s over, I can look back and say I’m not sure it was for us. There was very little we discussed in those meetings that we hadn’t discussed before as a couple. I’m not sure if we’re boring and don’t have any conflict, or if it’s just meant to be. Actually, I like to think we’ve worked through all the discussion points (family, church, finances, communication, intimacy) in our own time and way.
Mrs. Mary Jane, Grand Forks, NDAge and Occupation: 26, Instructional DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lead ProgrammerEngagement Date: February 28, 2009Wedding Date: September 2009Venue: City HallAbout Me: I'm a career woman on the surface and a homemaker at heart. I love fast cars and high heels, and my favorite food is cake. Mr. Mary Jane and I are both full-time employees and students, and we just bought our first house. We love to curl up on the couch with buttery popcorn, Sour Patch Kids, and the latest Netflix arrival -- whenever we can get a break from everyday life.
It’s been a good 2.5 years. Every relationship needs to consist of great listening skills, and both people need to be on the same page. We’ve been a great pair, but soon it’s going to be over.
My hairstylist is breaking up with me.
Actually, she’s moving across the country. About 6 weeks before my wedding. Crap. I found out this information from a friend just a few days ago; she uses the same stylist.
I was NOT planning on having my hair professionally styled for the wedding, but I did want to get it cut a couple of weeks prior. And I wanted to have that done by someone I trust. Damn it!
I need two more haircuts before my wedding. One probably in early June, and another in late August. My stylist is moving in late July. So, here are my issues.
I feel like maybe I should go to a new stylist for my June appointment to make sure that I like her (or him) before my pre-wedding cut. But on the other hand, my current stylist will still be around in June, so I’d rather have HER do it than someone new. Read more…

Mrs. Meatball, HollywoodAge and Occupation: 30, Actor/Writer/Office MavenFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Actor/WriterEngagement Date: October 7, 2007Wedding Date: May, 2009Blogging Since: September 16, 2008Venue: Private Garden/The Bungalow ClubAbout Me: I love melty cheese and diet coke almost as much as I love my man. I'm from Chicago, he's from NYC, and we both miss public transit and great pizza. We have an adorable muppet dog called Paco. I'm part hippie with a healthy dash of hip hop superstar, have excessive empathy for animals, and have not one, but two bionic eyes (long story). We're broke and it ain't no joke. It can't stop us from planning the bold and whimsical wedding of our dreams, but we've had to get pretty creative to make it work, yo!
*ahem* Could I have everyone’s attention please? I have an announcement to make.
(the crowd hushes as Miss Meatball hops aboard a milk crate and picks up a megaphone made out of, well, cardboard)
I’ve lost 17 lbs since JANUARY, yo!!!!!! I made that flab my bitch. I took it to school, then I took it home, and then I punished it! ’Memba my goal to lose 2 sizes in 5 months? CHECK. In fact, I’m fitting into clothes that I haven’t worn since senior year of undergrad, and have gotten below my “plateau weight” - you know, that number on the scale you can never seem to drop below? Well, I just did!
I’m in shock. I guess I shouldn’t be, after 5 months of Tiger and Jilian whooping my ass, inventing my healthy-stealthy meals, and having you wonderful readers to hold me accountable. But, still, I look in the mirror and I can’t believe the difference. I look younger. Much younger. I feel much younger. More comfortable. Stronger. More “me” than I’ve felt in years. While I know he loves me at any size, Mr. M looks at me now and I can see myself reflected differently there and I love the way that feels. I feel (gasp) SEXY!
I didn’t weigh myself at all this whole time, so stepping on the scale the other day was such an enormous payoff. I’m the kind of girl who is always losing and gaining 5lbs, so I needed a more significant result to feel motivated, and this was it. Read more…
Mrs. Deviled Egg, PittsburghAge and Occupation: 27, Public RelationsFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, AccountingEngagement Date: December 24, 2007Wedding Date: May, 2009Blogging Since: October 21, 2008Venue: Historic auditorium and meeting hall in one of Pittsburgh's commuter citiesAbout Me: I am obsessed with all things crafty, especially scrapbooking, knitting, jewelry-making & cake decorating. I also love being an aunt, wrapping presents, watching football (Go Steelers!), shopping at yard sales and consignment stores, procrastinating, singing and learning to play the guitar. When it comes to wedding planning, I'm excited about working on DIY projects and finding creative ways to stay under budget. Of course, nothing is more exciting to me than knowing that the wonderful Mr. Deviled Egg will be my husband.
Holy guacamole! Mr. Deviled Egg are officially licensed to wed! Last Wednesday, we stopped at the City-County Building in downtown Pittsburgh to file the paperwork and made it official.
In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, you can apply for a marriage license in any county, regardless of which county the wedding will be held. We chose to apply in Allegheny County because they have the only office in the area with evening hours. Every Wednesday, the Marriage License Bureau is open until 7:30 pm, which is perfect for Mr. DE and I since we both work downtown. Read more…
Mrs. Swan, New York CityAge and Occupation: 31, Legislative RepresentativeFiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Finance GuyEngagement Date: August 9, 2008Wedding Date: August 2009Venue: Battery GardensAbout Me: I am an un-crafty but resourceful, Caribbean-born but New York-raised woman who's been known to analyze "Dancing with the Stars" and “So You Think You Can Dance”, buy stinky cheese, and use way too many parentheses. I keep lists for fun, am constantly daydreaming of my next international travel adventure (four continents down, three to go), debating sports (let’s Got Mets/Giants!) and dancing around my apartment to stay sane. I am excited to share our wedding planning journey as I hope to plan a streamlined, personal, and fun wedding with the greatest life partner I could ever imagine, Mr. Swan.
I love the idea of breaking rules if you can when it comes to weddings! I was completely thinking about a shorter style wedding dress, since Mr. Swan and I will be having a daytime wedding in the August heat. At this point, I sometimes wish I had the guts to go the short or tea-length route. Plus, after at one point harboring feelings that there was no dress out there for me, I really wanted to pull a Carrie Bradshaw (or at one point, Miss Mary Jane) and rock a cute suit. Alas, my dress is long and floor length.
Another push away from a short dress is that I think they require some pretty bad ass shoes, particularly heels. I would love to do that, but I plan on wearing flats. Mr. Swan is pretty close to me in height. While it does not usually bother me, I’d love for us to be the same height on our wedding day.
I’m really feeling what I am seeing from designers as they offer more options in dress lengths for those brides willing to take a bit of a risk. Here are a few of the new tea-length and short styles that many designers are currently offering for their upcoming seasons.

I can cook, sew, am a whiz at planning, terrible at delegating, and totally in love with my fiancé (who will be my second husband but first love of the rest of my life). For our home/ garden/ DIY wedding, we’ll be moonlighting as interior designers, home improvers, and gardeners with the help of our fabulous friends and neighbors. We can’t wait to be married, and are learning how fun getting married can be.

On any day you can find me reading the latest book I have gotten my hands on, eating Swedish Fish, and perusing wedding blogs! We are both champagne drinking foodies on a Bud Light budget. We are planning an eco-chic, intimate, and interfaith San Francisco City wedding.
A couple weeks ago, Mr. Peep and I had the pleasure of going to our venue for a tasting!! And let me tell ya—it was fantastic!!! From this point forward, please forgive me for my overuse of adjectives like fantastic, amazing, and phenomenal.
We showed up to the restaurant, were seated, and just waited for the surprises to start arriving.

You may recall on my first visit to Jinny’s that Sister Frenchie and BM F looked at BM dresses while I looked at wedding dresses. While I was in my tiny changing room with Lynn, they were able to try on (and show me) a number of BM dresses.
Unfortunately, since Jinny’s doesn’t allow photos unless you have already purchased something, I don’t have pictures of all the dresses they tried on, but I was able to find a couple of them on the Dessy website.

When not procrastinating from my dissertation, I spend time catering to Jellyby, our overly anxious shih tzu, and getting to know Mr. Hot Cocoa. We have only been dating for fifteen years, so it's like I'm in love with a stranger! From the East Coast, we are planning a Jewish-Chinese Extravaganza in L.A., where we both grew up.
Having said that, I ended up fairly pleased with the way the programs came out, so I thought I’d share some DIY details about the process of getting my butt kicked… I mean, putting them together. Read more…

OK, this is a coupon flyer from Banana Republic. But you know what else this is? The inspiration for our rehearsal dinner invites.
This flyer has been sitting on our kitchen counter for weeks (past its use by date). I saved it for some reason but wasn’t sure what it was. As we got nearer to finalizing the details on our rehearsal dinner, I realized we were going to need invitations. I chatted with FMIL Joey and sort of volunteered to design them (I’m a silly girl). How hard could it be? Well, not very hard, when you accidentally put the mail on the kitchen counter in your work bag.
I was fishing through my bag on the bus and found the Banana Republic flyer. I was about to throw it in the recycling bin at the bus stop when I realized that it would inspire my rehearsal dinner invite. Read more…
