Deflowering the Groomsmen

June 1st, 2009 @ 10:58 am by Mrs. Bruschetta

When we started planning out the wedding florals, Mr. Bruschetta made his petal preference known. And, since weddings are as much about compromise as they are love and celebration, the mister won this one.

There’ll be flowers aplenty at the Bruschetta wedding. So far, you’ve heard about my bridesmaid bouquets idea and seen a centerpiece inspiration photo. But, for all the vibrantly-colored petals that will be decorating tables and clasped as bright bunches in the hands of the bridal party ladies, none will be adorning our groomsmen’s lapels.

I’m totally fine with this decision. We’ll still honor significant relatives with boutonnieres and/or corsages, but frankly, none of the groomsmen seem to care that they’ll be flowerless. And although I entertained the notion of a non-floral bout, I’m leaning towards keeping it simple with bold ties to set the groomsmen apart. Mr. Bruschetta and I have also discussed adding pocket squares to the party — black for the groomsmen (which, I realize, you wouldn’t really see well against the black tux jackets, but it would add a little something extra) and ivory (matching my gown) for the groom.

(Some of these inspiration photos are just pre-bout for the groom. But I really like aspects of each, and don’t think the happy gent alongside the bride, in the middle of his friends or having a solo shot in his cream-colored tie looks any look “groom-like” without a flower pinned to his lapel.)

Are you opting for non-floral bouts — or no bouts at all?

Trust me, the guys would not care one way or another if they had a bout. It’ll make your hubby happy and cost less $. Win-Win!

No bouts! We did pocket squares for GM, Groom, and dads. (And I hand-monogrammed each one!). Actually there were no corsage/bouts/nosegays of any kind. The moms didn’t want them, the grandparents didn’t care. And guess what? Everyone still knew who the guests of honor were! :)

We’re using herbs…Oh wait no, instead of bouts we’re using letters, like in Hockey (our color scheme also happens to be his favorite hockey team, we’re having hints of a hockey themed wedding.) The mister will have a red “C” on his lapel, and his groomsmen will have a red “A” He absolutely loved this idea and so do I!

I’ve never understood the importance of bouts! I’d rather not have them so I’m gently reminding him how badly his allergies could act up!

I handmade my guys’ bouts from silk camellias and guinea feathers. I made them for half what I would’ve paid for them from a florist and they’re so cute and unique! My guy loves that I made them myself, which is good because I was worried he would be bummed that they didnt get fresh flowers.

no bouts at all! just striking ties to set them apart, and a pocket square for the groom.

My fiance will be wearing his dinner dress uniform (we’re both NAVY) for the actual ceremony so pretty sure he’s not allowed a bout… but we’ll change for the reception (as will I) and he’ll have one then… :-)

No bouts. My fiance hates how they always end up crooked, or falling off, or smashed because some great aunt hugged too hard. :)

I didn’t even notice they weren’t wearing them in the pictures! Good choice on the no bouts. Nobody will miss them!

We haven’t fully nailed down this decision yet (still a year to be 100% on these things) but my FI doesn’t want a bout. I don’t really care all that much so we probably won’t be having them.

I never understood the point of a bout but didn’t really give it any thought till the man said NO BOUT. He said guys don’t wear flowers and he refuses. Fine by me! Saves us $$$!

We are doing a bout only for the groom. The GMs and my brothers will have pocket squares: yellow for the GMs and white for the bros. :)

I’m doing regular bouts, but I am in total LOVE with these non-floral options. Incredible and SO unique!

No bouts!! One of the good things about a military wedding, no bouts allowed. No complaints from me!

No flower bouts here either. The men are all going to be wearing Etro patterned pocket squares in our bright wedding colors.

Thinking about having the bouts as a DIY project. Depending on how they turn out, we may or may not have them! :)

No bouts for the groomsmen or anyone else! I am making a wire bout for my groom, and they all have pocket squares and matching ties. I was planning to make a mini bouquet for the moms to carry, maybe 3 or 4 flowers that match the bigger bouquets, but am now considering making wrist corsages instead.

Ours had hypericum berries with thin black ribbon. But yeah, I doubt anyone would have noticed if they hadn’t had anything.

Another vote for pocket squares! In every wedding he’s ever been in, my fiance always crushes his bout in a hug before the ceremony even begins. I was going to make non-floral bouts, but he wanted pocket squares when he saw a pic in a wedding blog I showed him; maybe I’ll still make something for our grandfathers and my dad though.

You know, before this post I never considered going bout-less. But now I think it’s perfect for us since I’m planning on eliminating as many florals as possible! Definitely think bold ties are the way to go! Thanks for the inspiration!

I’ve always liked non-floral bouts but I really like the look of none at all!

hehe we’re (okay I) am opting for floral… I think it sounds silly but I just have to be honest - I’ve had images of delicate flowers with thin ribbon and pearl pins sitting in glass bowls for too long to ignore. What a silly wedding aspect to linger on right? Not people wearing them, but the bouts just SITTING THERE looking pretty! Sigh, the heart wants what it wants ladies!
