To Veil Or Not?

June 1st, 2009 @ 11:52 am by Mrs. Cowboy Boot

I’ve never been a veil bride. From the very first dress I ever tried on (almost one year ago!), I never pictured myself with a veil, even though my mom made me try on a few. I was drawn to a raw veil (love how modern this feels) and then to a mantilla veil (love how vintage this feels), but in the end, I’m pretty sure I’ll be walking down the aisle sans this iconic bridal accessory.

For a short while, I considered a headband made from ribbon like these brides, and I’m still kind of in love with the idea.

I’m also considering the hair flower route as so many brides have done before. Mrs. Perfume revealed her DIY flower here, Mrs. Cupcake showed us her purse- and hair-accoutrements here, Ms. Mascara gave us the rundown on crafting your own here, and Mrs. Pineapple made a feathery flower here. While three out of the four brides above crafted their own, I would be taking the safe route and buying one pre-made.

For inspiration on both fronts, I’ve been on Etsy (story of my life) and come across these lovelies.

Etsy seller Oh My Deer

Etsy seller Grace Art and Antiques

Etsy seller BeSomethingNew

Etsy seller Muscari

What should I do? A hair flower or two? Or a headband?

The headbands (especially the first one) are really cute. I’m SO not a veil bride, so I went the flower route (2 flowers). The headband might look really pretty if you decide to go with the curly hair down like in your previous post.

The headband would be fun — unique and very pretty! — but I think it would depend on what hairstyle you’re favoring for the wedding.

Can you get both, and try different hairstyles until you decide what you want?

If you were to go with the side ponytail, the headband would probably look better.

How do headbands feel for you, over several hours? They usually end up giving me a headache after only 2 hours - maybe it’s a pressure point thing. Or they fall out! :(

But I do agree, the headbands are quite lovely.

I love the look of the headband! But I love flowers too! they are both simple yet beautiful. You can’t go wrong with either. But thinking about all the lovely hairstyles from your trial I would love the headband.

I shall be rocking a side comb with pearl and crystal flowers on it.
I love the flowers idea, head bands always give me a headache after a few hours.
Mind you I say this now, first hair trial is on Saturday so things could change!

I really think the headband would look great on you. Also to avoid that nasty headband headache I would definitely side on the ribbon headband :)

Wow, I love that baby’s breath in the first picture!

If you got a simple ribbon headband and a dozen tiny white flowers, you could do both…

I’m digging the headband. I thought about that for like a second, but headbands just make me look weird. I think, though, depending on what hairstyle you choose, a headband would be so fun!!

Headbands are adorable but give me a headache after a while, so I don’t know if that happens to you also. It would probably depend on the hairstyle you choose, but I would probably go with a flower because years from now it will probably look less trendy than a headband.

You could do both! Maybe the headband for the ceremony and then the flower or flowers for the reception, or vice versa!

I LOVE the first picture. So delicate. Just another option if you’re interested: Have you looked into the clay flowers on Etsy? Some of them are amazingly life like, but not so fragile. I had a beautiful gardenia and I didn’t have to worry about it turning brown on me.

I love the look of both a flower and a headband. You have to have the right look with a headband so you don’t look to childish.

I’m not a veil bride either, so I’m in a similar situation. I will probably opt for a flower or some sort of hair pin/comb to stick in my messy bun.

I actually only like mantilla veils if at all as well - I think you would look absolutely beautiful with a ribbon tied like a headband… I’m totally picturing it with the soft hairstyles you had done for your hair trial.

Check out amblethroughbramble.com. I’m having her custom make two gorgeous barrettes for me (flowers) in my colors.
