Aloha Invitations!

June 2nd, 2009 @ 8:30 am by Mrs. Piglet

Mr Piglet and I hugged it out last night after finally finishing our wedding invitations! Seriously. I’m talking bear hug, two feet off the ground, ‘OMG we’re done’ kind of hug. What a relief to finally drop these in the mail. I have a new found respect for anyone who takes on this sort of DIY project. There are so many components, and if you lack attention to detail (*ahem*… ME), you’re bound to make some careless mistakes. For all you DIY invitation gals…

While the invitations are en route, I’d like to share the sources of inspiration for our invitation suite. And there were many. It was TOO hard to settle on one idea, so I used them all. The thought did cross my mind that our invitations may resemble a Crayola color explosion, but thankfully, they turned out A.O.K. :)

I referenced these links/images over and over while designing the invites.

The Mr and I became huge fans of the trifold after seeing this particular invitation.

Ceci’s >> White Label >> Destination Collection >> Big Island

Our trifold cover closely resembles this design. We loved the illustration of Diamond Head in the background, the beach setting with the surfers… all surrounded by palm trees… perfection!

You can kind of see the cover here. It merges the cover design of the trifold on Ceci’s Big Island suite with the Hello!Lucky Retro invites. The credit, and my gratitude, goes to these two vendors for their creative genius.

Our gift card box was our inspiration for the postcard-esque response cards. In particular, we liked the ones with the images embedded in the block lettering.

Recognize these beauties by Miss Mascara?! We loved the stamped look of her envelopes, and mimicked this for ours.

We tied it all together with the twine/embroidery string combo inspired by the tribal elegance invitations by Courtney on Weddingbee PRO. I’m a huge fan of all her work!

And there they go…

What size paper is the trifold on? I am digging those and might just have to have them!

I’m glad to see I’m not the only bride who put their invitations in a external box to mail them. I had a minor freak out later that day when it started to rain! :)
(they all arrived safely without damage)

@Saxon: We used a print shop in Burbank for the digital printing, cutting, and scoring. We had a less than pleasant experience using their services. PM if you’d like specifics!

@LoriLori: We bought 11×17 cardstock, and the print shop we used cut it to size. Aren’t the trifolds so cool? :)

@purpleHaze79: Thanks! We bought it from a TJ Maxx Homegoods store for 12 bucks. It was such a random find!

@Mrs. Sushi: OooH, Mrs Sushi! I forgot to mention I used the tutorial on creating passport stamps from your save the date passports! Thanks love!

@Miss Mascara: Heehee, thanks for being so awesome!
