About Mrs. Yorkie

Alternative Bachelor Party

June 2nd, 2009 @ 1:28 pm by Mrs. Yorkie

Like most soon-to-be-married men, Mr. Yorkie can’t wait to get some quality time in with his guys before the Big Day. With friends flying in from all corners of the country, he really wants to show them a good time. Unlike some soon-to-be-married men, though, Mr. Y isn’t up for the typical bachelor party activities. To be honest, I’m secretly relieved to hear that, but not at all surprised. He’s just not the stripper-loving type.

Mr. Yorkie wants to be able to kick back and relax doing something he loves. Along with his Best Man (aka BIL Yorkie), he’s come up with a plan to do just that. I’ve mentioned before how much Mr. Y loves baseball. (Our first date was actually to a Marlins game!) So it’s only natural that he’s choosing to spend the day with his buddies at the ballpark.

Cheering on the Giants at the 2002 World Series

The party will start with a tailgate at Land Shark Stadium.

There they’ll chow down on ribs, chicken and all of the fixings catered by Shorty’s BBQ. While BIL Yorkie is the family’s official grill master, Mr. Y wants him to be able to enjoy himself, so they’ve decided to call on the local favorite. After that, the guys will take their club-level seats for the early afternoon first pitch as the Marlins take on the St. Louis Cardinals.

Mr. Y watches BIL Yorkie work his beer can magic

Since a number of guests won’t be arriving until later that day, Mr. Y has planned an encore event that night at one of his favorite hangouts, Titanic Restaurant & Brewery. There the guys will continue bonding over Sriracha chicken wings, local smoked fish dip and house brews.

BBQ, baseball and brews are the perfect combination for Yorkie-style male bonding. All of the guys who’ve been invited to the wedding are also invited to the game and get-together, including FFIL and Papa Yorkie. I’m so glad that they’ll get a chance to know each other, without the awkwardness and tension of typical bachelor party offerings.

Will your fiance be doing something different with his guys?

I hope he’ll pick something else to do. No guarantees, but I’m not going to force him one way or another. But I’m secretly hoping that he’ll not do the stripper route.

The boys were originally going to spend the weekend fishing. When we started talking about my party the girls and I were invited to come along…so now we’re doing a Jack and Jill fishin’ weekend. It will be a nice little getaway with our friends and family before the big day.

Since all his “boys” currently live out of state he’s taking them (and several of my “girls” husbands) all rafting the day before our wedding. They’ll have a full day of guided rafting with lunch, etc. II’m relieved they didn’t try to do the “vegas trip” he’d joked about…and kinda sad I’m not going b/c it sounds like so much fun!

They’re currently planning a “skatchelor party”. My fiance and his friends are avid skateboarders, so they’re planning a camping/skatepark filled adventure for one of these upcoming weekends.

I still have no idea if/when/what my sis and FSIL are planning for my bachelorette.

That’s a really cool alternative! My FI and I are doing a joint bachelor/bachelorette party in Vegas, so I guess we’re doing the TYPICAL parties! lol But we’re trying to plan a GA football game outing with our wedding party before the wedding if that counts?

I THINK so, because I know they’re not going the stripper route. Mr. Bruschetta wants a great dinner (big surprise there) and drinks…and I’m not sure what else.

My FI probably doesn’t even have a clue that this is something to think about and thinks it may or may not magically just take place. He really doesn’t understand this wedding thing at all although he is slowly getting educated =) His ideal party would be the same thing though, hanging out at a baseball game and then just relaxing with his friends somewhere.

My fiance was not at all excited about his bachelor party because he doesn’t like the typical strip club/bar scene. He told me he probably wouldn’t even have one because it didn’t interest him. Then I told him that he didn’t have to go out drinking, that he could do ANYTHING. I told him a friend of mine was going to play paintball and he got really excited about that. He didn’t know that bachelor parties could be different.

Fiance just got back from a 4 day houseboat trip with his guys (most of whom he’s known all of his life). He came back with no voice, a sunburn, and bruises. He said he had the time of his life!

Sounds like a blast to me…but maybe that’s because Mr. Yorkie’s day sounds eerily similar to what I’ll probably be doing for my bachelorette! (Except it’ll be a Brewers game, not a Marlins game!)

The camping/fishing trips sound awesome. I’d suggested a snorkeling trip in the Keys, but with the party scheduled a couple of days before the wedding, Mr. Y opted for something on dry land.

@amy13: Talk about eerie… the Marlins were playing the Brewers on our first date! :o)

Hi Miss Yorkie, I love that Mr Yorkie is thinking outside the box for his bachelor party. In England where I am from it is the thing to do - ropes courses, paintball, go-karting etc. I agree its a nice way for the guys to bond before the big day.

Like Miss Lab, Mr and I are also doing a joint party in Vegas. We’re planning on having some fun time together as well as separate! I think it’ll be a blast!

My FH is a nerd… and loves playing video games. He has decided to have a LAN party (yeah, I’m confused too). Something about bringing all of their computer together and playing some game (WoW, Fallout 3, Left for Dead, etc), while eating food and drinking some good beer.

Works for me!

Mr. S is going to Denver with a bunch of friends for a long weekend (unfortunatley it’s also a weekend we have all five of our kids - so I will not have a break :( ). They’ll golf, go out to restraunts/bars, and maybe do some white water rafting.

That sounds like the perfect Bachelor Party to me! Doing all kinds of manly stuff that starts w/ a “B” ;-)
Mr Frenchie and his dudes are going to Palm Springs for the weekend and renting a house. He’s also not a striper-loving kinda guy so there will be BBQ’ing, drinking, Guitar Hero and Booze.

I LOVE Titanic!! Make sure Mr. Yorkie checks out which band is playing. If it is Big Poppa E, he really rocks! That is our cocktail hour band! If he goes on a Sunday, there is karaoke. (If that is the case, you may have to sneak in the back and get that on video!)

My Fiance is hitting the road a few months before the big day to New Orleans. It is central to all the friends. Basically booze, gambling, etc. Nothing too raunchy.

I think my FI will do something similar, but his buddies are a bit unpredictable at times…so who knows!

How funny - my fiance is doing something very similar. He and his friends are going to a nighttime Marlins game and they reserved the party area. After that they’re going to the Hard Rock Hotel.

My FI loves to ride his quad but hasn’t had many opportunities to do so over the last year so him and some friends are going to spend the day riding the trails.

I love that there are guys out there who are straight out genuine and just plain old good guys. My fiance went snowboarding with his boys. He specifically stated that he didnt want to go c strippers so they just went and had a blast boarding for a weekend. Guys SHOULD just spend some time wit their friends and not have to go to a strip club for a bachelor party. IN fact the idea was only there because of tv/movies but it doesnt have to be like that at all. Im happy that someone else out there has found a respectable man to be with :)

@septbride26:

Good call on the paintball! Our wedding is still a year away, but my fiance is not the stripper kind of guy at all. He’ll be planning something different, and I bet he’d love the paintball idea.

That sounds like an fun and chill day… The mister really isnt into the club scene for his bachelor party either - but talk about peer pressure, it seems all the friends and cousins are hoping to go to Vegas, so we’ll see how that turns out. I’ve left it up to the mister to decide what he wants to do - but I guess I’m crossing my fingers that they do something similar to what Mr. Yorkie is doing :)
