Mrs. Crab Cake's Picture
Mrs. Crab Cake, Columbus, GA Age and Occupation: 25, Registered Nurse Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Director of Education and Living History for a museum Engagement Date: April 6, 2008 Wedding Date: June, 2009 Blogging Since: November 26, 2008 Venue: Holy Family Catholic Church, reception: National Infantry Museum About Me: I'm a perfectionist trying to balance two jobs, motherhood, my craft obsession, and wedding planning. I am obsessed with all things wedding, especially creative ideas for saving money and DIY projects. A Southern Belle at heart, I love anything southern, especially sweet tea, grits, afternoon thunder storms, crab cakes, and good old Southern hospitality. Mr. Crab Cake and I are planning a vintage inspired wedding with tons of Southern flare (can y'all say that with a thick Southern drawl?).
About Mrs. Crab Cake

I can’t remember if I first saw infusion jars used at a wedding in Mrs. Cherry Pie’s detail post, but I do remember that I was seriously in love. I’m talking heart-beat-skipping-dry-mouth-embarrassing-palm-sweating love here, ladies.

drink station

(source 1, 2, 3, 4)

I schemed for months, trying desperately to work those beautiful infusion jars into my reception. I tried to scheme ways to have signature drinks, pre-mixed, and served in infusion jars. I was determined, and Mr. CC was realistic.

First, our budget barely allows for beer and wine, let alone signature cocktails. Secondly, not having a caterer means no liquor license, and we were concerned about the logistics of serving liquor. We are hiring an ABC licensed bartender. Anyway, reality finally set in and I was crushed. There would be no signature cocktails with cute and clever names, or fantastically vintage infusion jars with cutesy signs.

I was sad, but life had to go on.

Then Mr. CC and I were discussing beverages a few days ago. We’ve pretty much figured out the beer and wine situation, but we thought we needed something to serve to people who didn’t want to drink. Mr. CC suggested tea, and I was elated. Suddenly, there was something I could totally put in infusion jars.

Mr. CC didn’t understand the concept until I showed him that collage up there (yay Picasa!). He liked them, and I told him that we would be serving tea (sweetened and unsweetened) and water in those beauties!

I’d really like to dress them up by putting something in the tea. Any suggestions?

I like fruits of all kinds!

Peaches, raspberries and mint sprigs in your tea-filled infusion jars could be delicious and the colors would look beautiful as well!

Those are so great, I’ve been trying to justify them as well. For the tea, the possibilities are really endless. I love blackberry tea, mango tea, peach tea. You could basically pick any fruit and add it.

I too am in love with infusion jars! I am planning on using them for sweet tea, unsweet tea and water as well. We won’t have alcohol at the reception but you know sometimes people just don’t like punch. Or they need something that will really quench their thirst.

As for the ideas on dressing up the tea…if you get a flavored tea like raspberry you could add fresh raspberries to the tea and I think that would look awesome!

I was also going to suggest cucumber in the water. Very fresh. If it sounds too weird, try lime!

Lemons in tea are easy and people won’t be surprised by the flavor, and they’ll look nice next to cucumber (or lime!) water. :)

I love the idea! It’s going to look so pretty, especially with any of the add-ins the wonderful bees mentioned above. I saw a few of these jars at Pottery Barn, and cheaper versions at Bed Bath and Beyond. :)

Thanks for putting a bug in my head about another wedding-related item/expense….NOT. I love these, but with less than a month to go, they aren’t feasible. Plus, I don’t think they fit our theme too well. But bully for you, girl–I am SO glad you found a way to incorporate something you love into your special day!

FYI on cucumbers in the water. Make sure the water is COLD!!!! My brother got married in April and the brides mother wanted cucumber slices in the water. I’d never heard of it and thought it a bit weird. I loved the punch they had but it was HOT and I needed something to quench my thirst so I got some water. It was not iced and it was NASTY with the cucumber slices in it. Common sense says to make sure it’s cold or has ice in it but make sure to stay on top of that if you choose to go with cucumbers!

I LOVE cucumber in the water, it’s really good. For the tea, lemons, peaches, some kind of fruit in your color?
I LOVED the photo’s from Mrs. Cherry Pie’s wedding too. Immediately I emailed my wedding coordinator and asked about how we could incorporate as well. I’ve found several of these jars on Craig’s list. Yay! I think we’re going the non-alcholoc route with these too.

You could do flavored teas or lemonades (the drinks of the south!) with raspberries, strawberries, lemons, limes, cherries. For an alcoholic alternative, you could make sangria (red or white wine with fruit- berries, oranges, ).

I love berries in tea (raspberries, strawberries) but I’m not sure how they’d hold up in the jars. That would be my top taste vote!

Yay for getting the jars!

How about frozen peach cubes as a nod to being a “georgia peach”? Although they wouldn’t be as cute as raspberries but peach tea is yummy.

We are doing those jars with lemonade from Toomer’s Corner with frozen lemon slices mixed in for the non-drinkers during cocktail hour and mohitos for, well primarily me :)

Three cheers for cucumber, citrus, and mint! Lime and mint together would be such a nice nod to a julep without having the alcohal.

Mint
Blackberry flavoring
Blackberry tea was by far one of THE most popular flavors at the restaurant I worked at

Why not offer a handful of syrup flavorings and let guests create their own masterpiece? Passion fruit is popular too.

If not, just float some lemons, peaches, pineapples (yes pineapple tea is yummy) and that kind of stuff! Try to do suntea if you can. It’s so smooth

I went to a wedding that served Sangria in these, a subtle nod to the couple’s travels in Spain. The sangria was a rich red color, and the tablecloth beneath was stark white. After a few drinks were poured, the tablecloth looked like an accessory to murder. I swear! Blotches of red and drips down the side. It looked awful! So, my advice, especially for sangria, is to use a dark tablecloth!! :-)

Iced tea and a lemonade would be my choices! These drink containers are too fun for just water.

@Miss Cowboy Boot: Sams club has them for around $25.00. They looked like the ones in the upper right photo.

Ooo, thanks for the inspiration! I’ve been trying to think of ways to display our beverages during the ceremony (which is outdoors in the GA heat-which you know all about, so we definitely need some!).

I think the frozen fruit is the best idea (raspberry, peach, etc). If you want to do several flavors but don’t want to have to worry which is sweet tea and which is unsweet, you can have a pitcher of simple syrum (sugar and water boiled together to make the sugar dissolve). That way you can serve them all unsweet and people can sweeten to their taste.

Don’t forget to put something under the taps or put it somewhere where water is okay. The jars will sweat and the taps will drip so do not put them on finished wood!

Love the jars! Do you know that they make flowering teas that look like beautiful peonies or roses? I know that they are Advertised in Teatime magazine… and are designed to be served in a clear teapot so I think that these jars would be lovely! You could also make lemonade and limeade!

@Lozza: You are so right! I hadn’t even thought of peaches!! @Miss Cowboy Boot: @Miss Gloss: @Miss Bear Cub: @pebbles44: I don’t have photos of mine yet. I actually put my Step Mom in charge of them, and she bought some from Olde Time Pottery. Mrs. Cherry Pie offered this (http://www.infusionjars.com/) source for the jars, and I also found some by googling “infusion jar.”

you could do mint, strawberries, peaches, etc. Or, you could do an Arnold Palmer (sweet or unsweet tea and lemonade mixed), which is a perfectly Southern drink:)

why don’t you add lemonade?
The lemons in that one jar are adorable!

I would put lemons slices and limes slices in the water, and mint is great for the iced tea!

So this is a question for all the ladies that have used these jars. I am planning on having them set up w/ water & lemmonade for pre-ceremony drinks and for anyone who wishes to go back later after the booze starts flowing. Well the million dollar question is how many gallons should i have for 100 people? During dinner they will have the option for ice & tea so really the jugs will just serve as the pre ceremony drinks and the after dinner non-alcoholic drinks…..hummm….what do you ladies suggest?

we’re going the same route beverage wise for our wedding. I LOVE these jars for serving drinks and had to find a way to use them. I am putting tea in one and lemonade in the other. I was thinking about putting lemon slices in the lemonade but not too sure about putting them in the tea because not all people like lemon in their tea. although they would look pretty and may not add much flavor. so yea lemon slices it is! =)

I am super late to this post, but have some suggestions!
You can still do a wine drink in the jars- sangria would be perfect!!!
I agree with latte love… lemonade would be perfect, and pretty too! Also, cucumber water is super yummy. :)

It’s great that you are thinking of your non drinking guests! We served a non alcoholic punch and all of the pregnant ladies loved it! I also drank a ton of it toward the end of the night to stay hydrated.
