Giving Up Control…

June 3rd, 2009 @ 12:31 pm by Mrs. Gloss

I did it! I gave up control… of our honeymoon!! (Very difficult for me and my OCD-ness.)

I have no idea where we are going, and I love it. I posted previously about not knowing where to go on our honeymoon here, here and then again, here. I got so frustrated with the amount of choices and my desire for it to be absolutely perfect; it was overwhelming. Add that on top of wedding planning and I was getting seriously stressed out.

So Mr. Gloss took over, with a few suggestions from me of things I was hoping for.

My criteria: Someplace warm, where somebody will put a drink in my hand (preferably a margarita) and I won’t have to do anything all day long… unless I want to, and in that case, I want there to be a lot of options for things to do. :)

My parents have offered to pay for our flights. So between my mom, Mr. Gloss, and the travel agent, I’m pretty sure they can come up with something wonderful. I get a few questions every so often about my ‘travel preferences’ from Mr. Gloss, like, “Are you planning on working out when we are there (i.e. do you want a nice gym)?” Or, “Do you want there to be a TV in our room?” On top of that, more logistical questions from my mom, like “Should we book tickets in your new name?”

I’m packing a floppy hat, large sunglasses, and warm weather clothes, no matter what.

I refuse to be told where we are going until we check in at the airport, at which point I would like a travel guide for our location to read on the plane (*hint hint*).

I can’t handle surprises. I ALWAYS want to know what is going on, but for this one, I am so excited!! And as of yesterday, we are officially booked!!

Have you given up control over any part of your wedding and found it to be completely exhilarating?

Oh, this sounds so exciting! Can’t wait to find out — after you get back, I assume? — WHERE the Glosses are honeymooning!

I would love to give up control on my Honeymoon but I am slightly worried he would plan something and I would be disapointed. On the other hand, I feel like he could go above and beyone my expectations. Either way it is a big responsibility and I don’t want to potentially be disapointed in his choice so for now, we are both planning to plan the Honeymoon. So excited for your suprise though :)

Wow. I am such a control freak and could NEVER do this. You must really trust your fiance!!

FYI don’t book tickets in your new name - you won’t be able to get through airport security if your airline ticket doesn’t match your ID! Especially if it’s international!

I was jsut going to comment with what PradoBride said! This caused a MASSIVE headache (and as a result, a 6 month postponed honeymoon) for friends of mine. He thought he’d be sweet and add her new last name, but NONE of her documentation matched and they wouldnt take a marriage license as proof.

That negativity aside (sorry, trying to save you huge headahce!!) I did thesame thing with my FI. I provided a bit of input but he’s handing the entire thing. I cant wait!

love it! Our honeymoon isn’t a surprise, but once we step on the plane to Italy–it’s all on Mr. LatteLove! I know the cities we’re visiting, but have planned NOTHING! Glee.

I would have no problem relinquishing control to the FI, he and I have the same idea on what we want out of our honeymoon so I think he would be fully capable of making a great decision

LOL - I was given this offer by my FH & jumped right on it. He will tell me the night of our wedding where we are going & since I am in law school, we are going two months after the wedding during my winter break. He keeps threatening me that we are going to the Ice Hotel LOL - But I gave him a little guidance & pleased when I think about the fact it’s one less thing for me to worry about & look forward to - he said he would take over b/c he’s extremely busy as an attorney & knows I am doing alot of the wedding work since I am off from school during the summer. I think it’s an awesome start to our marriage & cant wait to see what he comes up with - I also told him cold or hot weather is fine since we live in Miami & can get sun all year round :) Congrats on giving up the control - you wont regret it!

My FI wanted to keep the honeymoon a total surprise from me until the day of the wedding or even until after the reception! I’m a major planner and researcher and have huge OCD tendencies. Add all three together and I couldn’t handle it. Not to mention that everyone kept asking me where we were going on our HM and I had nothing to tell them. He finally agreed (without me asking) that we’d plan it together. We’re pretty sure that we will be going to Hawaii. We just don’t know anything more than that. lol

We decided on where we are going (Antigua) and where we are staying. I am letting him do the rest. He is really good at it and loves planning vacations. I can’t wait to see what he has in store!
Also, it may be a good idea to have him tell people in the wedding party so they can inform other guests after you leave for the evening. People really want to know and will be excited to hear! :)
I can’t wait to hear where you are going!!!

Just a warning DON’T book your tickets in your new name! The airport, cruise, whatever you’re using will not honor your ticket because you won’t have time to change it before your honeymoon! I’ve known soooo many people who missed their honeymoon because of one little mistake!!!!

I put the honeymoon completely in my FI’s hands. However, he’s incapabale of planning anything successfully and has since asked me repeatedly what I think os this… and that… and this again. I know the countries we a re goin and where we are staying, but what we are actually doing is up to him.
And our tickets are not being booked in my new name because my passport won’t match and I though that would be an issue!

@Miss Bruschetta: Yup, you’ll have to wait!! (Unless you want to email Mr. Gloss :) )
@PradoBride: @KellyV: @GeorgiaPeach: Thanks for all your concerns but he booked everything in my ‘current’ name EXACTLY as it appears on my passport thanks to our travel agent!!

My FI is planning our honeymoon too! I told him where I really wanted to go but if that didn’t work out I was fine with something else. I also told him to buy me a travel guide so I had something to read on the plane and learn more about where we are going. I can’t wait! It’s three weeks away.
I’m so excited about him planning it all. I have trouble delegating things wedding related because I have a lot of time right now so handing over the honeymoon reins was kind of a relief.

My honeymoon is a TOTAL surprise. I won’t know where we are going until the morning we leave. I know it is somewhere warm, and I know the dates. We worked out a budget together and that’s it. He said to bring my passport (just in case).

When people ask where we are going on our honeymoon I have found I actually have MORE to talk about because it is a surprise - most people I meet are jealous! I originally felt concern that he couldn’t handle it, but now I’ve realized I can trust him more and more - a great! lesson for marriage! :)

me too!!! I’m nervous and anxious. Maybe I’ll name the tables after possible honeymoon destinations and have guest participate in the guessing.

That is so romantic…I love it! I booked our honeymoon flights and hotel, because frankly I’m just better at that stuff. About the biggest “giving up control” i can lay claim to is letting go of my concerns about the rehearsal dinner venue and deciding not to bother with a cake tasting.

P.S. I think I am also going to give my florist a few colors and let her do whatever for the bouquets. Mostly cause I don’t know jack about flowers.
