A Homegrown Wedding

June 4th, 2009 @ 9:27 am by Mrs. Cowboy Boot

While planning out our invitations with Ms. Sarah Parrott (our stationer), I stumbled across her fairly new blog, Homegrown Wedding. First, I had no idea that she was engaged, but now that I know she’s scoping for inspiration, I’ll be checking her site often. It’s adorable. Here are some of my favorite inspiration photos she’s collected:

Dahlias from Country Living

Decor from Farmhouse Wares

Inspiration from Earth Friendly Weddings

Sunflower setting from Country Living

Save-the-dates by Rifle Design

Natural hair; Photo by Jenna Carver

Wedding Sign Inspiration

Her plan is to use organic, local food, flowers from her garden, a homemade cake, and handmade decorations.

In what ways is your wedding homegrown?

I LOVE that hair picture! If only my hair was that thick and long…

I’m growing wheatgrass for some centerpieces, using flowers from the local farmers market for others, and slabs of rock (that I’ve spent the last month collecting while on hikes) with holes drilled in them to hold candles. I’ve also been collecting pine cones, small river rocks, and pieces of driftwood. I carved LN + CH in a heart on one piece of driftwood that will span the length of the head table. Also, since we’re having a variety of desserts instead of a cake, I’m stacking a few cross-sections of trees, so that they will be the shape of a tiered cake, and decorating it with moss and river rocks.

Those are my go-to inspiration places! My personal blog is named “A homegrown kinda love”. We’re planting our own flowers for my bouquet, saving all our spaghetti and salsa jar’s for hanging jars, and even making our own bee’s wax candles from my FSIL’s bee’s!!! So much to do! Good thing It’s still a year away!

I would have loved to grow the flowers for my wedding in my own garden! Sometimes I really wish I was planning my wedding from Oregon :(
I am, however, going to bake several homemade wedding cakes for the big day :)

I really would like to photograph one of these weddings in the next few months. Being a city boy the idea of a wedding in the country seems like such a good time!

Sarah is wonderful, as is her stationery. And even though I’m already married, I find her wedding blog full of inspiration for summer. =)

Not our home homegrown, but all Jamaican influences. From the flowers to the food - & I wouldn’t have it any other way! :)
