That’s where we spent the afternoon, kissing between the stacks… and on the stairs … and in the hall.
But it wasn’t just for kicks. We were mugging it for the camera of Julian Allen.
You know how all the wedding tips for budget weddings tell you to find someone who is just getting started in photography — someone amazing and affordable? Julian is that person. I found him through a posting on the Columbus Craigslist — which was a small miracle, because that board is so full of mediocrity. But Julian’s photos struck both Mr. B and me right away. It’s the texture, the light, and the love you can see in the photos of his family. He’s only shot a few weddings so far, but he’s extremely affordable (for the moment), especially if your wedding is in the winter months. He’s still building his portfolio, so he’s not charging for engagement sessions, only for photos you choose to purchase. It was a good set up for us, since we’re hoping we can pick a handful of the best shots to use for some wedding projects.
We went to the Westerville Public Library for our engagement photo shoot. I was really nervous, but Julian’s friendly British accent quickly put us both at ease.
He’d never been to the library before I suggested it as a location, so he scouted it out a week ahead of time and had a clear plan for our time there. He basically storyboarded our entire shoot using pictures he’d taken the week before, shots from magazines and blogs that he liked, and links that I’d sent him.
Looking at these photos now that we’ve done our shoot, I can see the poses we recreated (see above). It was just fine with me that he could tell us exactly how to sit, how to position our arms, etc. Otherwise, Mr. B and I would have had no idea what to do with ourselves!
Oh, by the way, here’s what I wore for part of the shoot:
SO FUN.

I think the snow falling during this pic makes it look positively magical. Yes, I was freezing cold, thank you for asking.

Love this one. We traded papers (he’s holding mine, I’m holding his), and I’m doing my signature wrinkled nose smile because he just said something to make me laugh.

His manly steel toed “cowboy” boots, my cute purple wedges from Target.

It was only slightly awkward to lie on the library floor for this shot. This is one of the copycat poses we did.

Here we’re recreating Miss Taffy’s record store shoot… only we’re looking at books. If you’re wondering about the look on my face, it’s because the book Mr. B is pointing to is titled Virgin.

I am SO GLAD I decided to go with my gut and wear this dress for the second half of the shoot. It looks fabulously vintage glam, I think, and it’s one of our wedding colors!

I love the shots, but in some of them I feel like Mr. Bunny is a prop to make me look better.
Where’s my man’s cute face?
Oh, I found it!

Ain’t he a sweetie?
And finally, my favorite:

Why yes, we do make out in the stacks on a regular basis!
Thanks, Julian, for a wonderful afternoon!
