About Mrs. Apple Cider

We are SOOO Lucky

June 4th, 2009 @ 1:33 pm by Mrs. Apple Cider

For the last few years I have been obsessing over a photographer named Laura Taylor from The Darling Life Photography. She is one of the truest and rarest photography talents out there. I have purchased her work for friends and family and have seriously been a stalker fan. By a stroke of fate I was able to get in touch with Laura over the years. As soon as I was engaged I sent Laura an email and asked her to shoot some engagement photos of me and Mr. AC. Over the weekend we finally set the date, and next week Laura is coming to New York to spend the whole day shooting us. I am honored, floored, nervous, and excited. I know that the photos will be forever mementos.

Here is some of Laura’s work. You can learn more about her on her website. She is not known for shooting weddings/engagement photos, but I think that is what makes me so excited. Her style and her talent will be unique.

(I have purchased this print for so many friends! How perfect is it for a bride or baby girl’s room?)

(this photo is another that I drool over)

(i love the depth and colors in this photo)

(How stunning is this self portrait of Laura? That’s true talent.)

She has some ideas for cool photos, and I also have some ideas. We are going to combine them and do some really fun stuff. I am sure there will be some props involved, and I can’t wait to share the photos with you guys in a few weeks.

Some places I am considering:

  • On the Brooklyn Bridge
  • At Coney Island
  • In Central Park
  • In Chelsea - the funky artsy part of town (and where I live)
  • A fabric store - think about the color pops

Any New Yorkers or other folks have ideas for places to shoot in NYC? We are also planning props! I AM SO EXCITED… after months of planning, I feel like the fun is about to begin!

oh how exciting! along the lines of brooklyn bridge, you could also do empire fulton ferry park (or whatever it’s called). i love the streets in far west village (bank, jane, charles etc.)–the piers out by the river in that area might be cool too. south street seaport has some nice views of the water with a bit of the boardwalk feel without having to go all the way to coney island (which would be cool too). please share your pics when you get them!

I Live in NYC and sinilar to lavendarpug, I LOVE the streets in the far west village. They could make for some great classic and/or vintage-y shots. Brooklyn Bridge is a staple, seaport, night streets of little italy (where they have teh cool lights strung above the streets). If you’re going for props, get one of those giant round balloons and head for strawberry fields or the Ramble or the Great Lawn in Central Park. color contrast would be so cool there. But my absolute favorite spot? Belvedere Castle/Shakespeare Gardens in Central park - so gorgeous. cant wait to see them, Laura looks incredibly talented!

Most defniteily Long Island City, there is an amazing pier with amazing views of Manhattan. (I live right by there). The 59st Bridge is one of your backdrops as well as the HUGE classic pepsi sign and of course manhattan, can’t beat that!

Meat packing! Some of the charm of the west village but with bigger, wider streets. And oh, the cobblestones…

Can’t wait to see the pics!

I love Madison Square Park with the fountain and benches. Everything looks so pretty and nice and well-cared-for there.

I live in Chelsea, (although I would not call it funky esp with all the ugly ritzy high rises going up) anyway there are a bunch of AMAZING brownstones on 22nd and 9th that you might look at for a more intimate - and classic front stoop - kinda thing.

It’s kind of touristy but I just saw some great photos shot from “Top of the Rock” with the Empire state building and such in the background. It’s really open so you can get a nice skyline from up there.
