Wedding Day MUST Haves

June 4th, 2009 @ 10:30 am by Mrs. French Bulldog

There are a few things I MUST have at my disposal on our wedding day…

#1 - Mr French Bulldog - Hello, we can’t have our wedding without this guy!

fh
Mr French Bulldog very excited our first time celebrating his birthday.

But since he doesn’t fit in my clutch, I’ll just talk about these things…

#2 - Blood sugar tester - My FreeStyle Lite tester goes with me where ever I go. A diabetic should never be without her tester. :)

fslite

#3 - Insulin Pump - Because I am a Type I Diabetic, I am insulin dependent. I have chosen to manage my diabetes with an insulin pump in order to keep in better control and stay healthier.

#4 - Insulin - (and spare syringes) This should be pretty self explanatory after #2 & #3… the spare syringes are just in case my pump doesn’t work. This is very rare, but I always carry extra just in case.

humalog

#5 - Aquaphor - I’m sure anyone with a Chapstick addiction can relate to this one. I love Aquaphor. Sister Frenchie introduced me to this around Christmas. She started using it during her work outs because it lasted longer than our favorite Softlips, and she thought I’d want to use it for working out, as well. Aquaphor has turned into my Windex. I’ve also started using it on chapped skin or scabs that I want to heal prettier. I wasn’t sure it was actually helping my scars until my dermatologist gave me some samples to put on a scar I had from removing a mole on my boobie. SCORE!

#6 - Laura Mercier Lip Stain - In Sugar Violet, to be exact. If you haven’t tried this lip color yet, I highly recommend it (in any color you choose). I hate the way lipstick feels on my lips, and this is lighter to me, and lasts MUCH longer.

I don’t know — I haven’t gotten that far yet — is that bad?

I’m diabetic, too, and for my insulin pump I altered the flask garter idea for my pump. I wore a regular garter, but also had on the one that held my pump. I didn’t want to deal with carrying a clutch, so I left insulin, syringes, listick, etc. with my mother. The benefit there was that she was always there and I didn’t have to worry about carrying her around (haha).

I’m amazed you can fit that all in a clutch!

my essentials include mascara, concealer, burts bees, and bobby pins!

The groom was type I and not on a pump, so we assigned someone the task of watching for his high/low signs and carrying snacks. Thus, the best man’s pockets included the rings, a speech, and a pack of fruit gummies.

One my my family members is a type 1, also, and she uses the insulin PEN. It’s about the size of a sharpie marker, and it fits nicely in her clutch on evenings out. Super slick!

I have Type 1, too. I bought a cute clutch from redrubyrose on Etsy and can’t wait to put all of my must haves in it, including my tester, insulin and some dextrose energy, just in case I get low before walking down the aisle.

@Miss Bruschetta: You’d be surprise what I can fit in a cute clutch ;-) But like Karen I’m probably going to wear my pump and hook it on my garter.

@Miss Mary Jane: I used to use a pen too! I think that is one of the best inventions for Diabetics, it makes injecting and carrying the insulin around SO much easier :)

@hedgehog: I’ll have to check out those clutches, THANKS!

I kept my camera, a lip gloss, powder compact and concealer/make-up brush in my clutch. I’m not diabetic, but I have hypoglycemia, so on the wedding day, I played it safe and carried a tube of glucose tablets in my clutch as well. I ended up using everything I put in there.
