With a —- on Top

June 4th, 2009 @ 8:25 am by Mrs. Swan

As some of you may remember, I was slobbering over this lovely cupcake stand from Martha Stewart. I’ve actually decided to take a different tact with cupcakes, which I’ll blog about at a later time. Either way, I have been thinking about what I could do to add a little sumthin’ sumthin’ to them.

I stumbled onto the idea of cupcake flags. This is most definitely something you can DIY, and I am sure there are many of you out there who will be planning on doing so. For those that like to outsource like me, there are some options out there on Ye Olde Etsy that will save you a bit of time.

Enter Buttercreambee:

This is just a sample of the designs available, and I love the jewel for a little bling effect. These can be completely personalized.

If you want to take it to a whole other level, check out Goosegrease. A little mini you for a cupcake or two?

You also have the option of getting these little ones as wedding cake toppers too, and Miss Stiletto blogged about them a little while ago. They can be custom made (I like the fact that they have little brown ones).

For those with a more simple chic look, try this other option from Goosegrease.

Birds anyone?

They’re made of felt (by the Cupcake Girls).

Maybe something that actually looks like a flag.

Are you doing anything small and special to decorate your cake or cupcakes?

I love cupcake flags. Have you seen this wedding from Southern Weddings? They had sweet monograms on their cupcakes http://www.swsmag.net/blog/2009/6/1/real-texas-wedding-leigh-kelly.html

I lovvvve cupcake flags, but my darling future husband just can’t understand why that is something we would spend money on (understandable), so I might be DIYing them!

I love those last flags — so colorful!

I did DIY cupcake flags and they were pretty easy with stickers folded over toothpicks, but these are so neat!

OMG I love those birds! We’re using a mini bird theme — those would have been perfect.

We’re doing cupcake flags that I diyed. They were so easy, but tedious. We’re just took Avery labels and folded them over toothpicks with our wedding date and name on one side and flavor of cupcake on the other. Each flavor is a different writing color! They are one of my favorite details!

I was thinking about cake flags for serving the cake- one on each slice. But that DIY idea is on my list of ‘I-hope-to-get-to-this’ things. Beautiful cake flags though- love them!

I love Goosegrease’s custom peggies…unfortunately, FI thinks they are ridiculous. He won’t even let me display them in our house. :( However, I’m totally loving the flags and birdies. Perhaps felt stars and shells for a beachy wedding? Thanks for the ideas!

I found Etsy seller Ciao Bambino and she just finished my cupcake toppers. :) I adore them and she was great to work with!

Now I want to have cupcakes so we can have those cute little flags! At our venue, they cost more so we’ll go with cake…need to find a topper for that!

I love the last ones made of ribbon! We are still not sure if we will go cake or cupcakes but if we choose cupcakes, I may need some of those!

Cupcake flags were one of the very first things on my wedding to-do list and I can’t wait to actually get them started! I checked out that first Etsy cupcake flag find a couple weeks ago, but I think it’ll be WAY cheaper to make them myself. Mmmm…I may need to go have a cupcake now!

I think that whimsical elements like these really stand out at an event - though maybe popular on wedding boards, most actual weddings seem to follow the same conventions. I hope you pick one of these - super cute!

I checked out the cupcake flags on Etsy, and they are definitely .75 cheaper per flag than my baker. I will definitely be checking this out more closely. I love Weddingbee and Etsy for this!!!

I looove the picks from Goosegrease- like little gumballs!

In my shop at kireinapaper.com, I offer several different flag styles, and can work with any pattern…here is my favorite! https://www.kireinapaper.com/index.php#/shop/product/00108
