Mrs. Bear Cub's Picture
Mrs. Cub, Chile/Portland Age and Occupation: 26, Astronomer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Astronomer Engagement Date: May 10, 2008 Wedding Date: September 2009 Venue: Westwind YWCA camp About Me: I'm a small-town girl who's making a living in Chile, with her heart in the Pacific Northwest. I grew up in Southern California, went to high school in Texas, grad school in New Mexico, and now I can't wait to settle down in Oregon! I love pears, hazelnuts, knitting, traveling, running, baking, and long talks on the phone with good friends. I'm planning my Oregon coast summer camp wedding while abroad with my best friend - I'm always at home when I'm with him!
About Mrs. Bear Cub

I want a KitchenAid like little kids want to stick their fingers in the wedding cake!

Doesn’t it seem like everyone has a KitchenAid on their registry these days? I really need one, too! I baked brioche and sourdough bread from scratch this weekend, all using my hands. Kneading is tuff stuff!
Sometimes I wonder, though, if my kitchen gadget fiending type-casts me as uber-white. We’re under pretty hefty pressure, apparently, to like cooking!

White people like a lot of stuff, and you can check out the rest of the list here - what a great way to get to know another whitey, like me! (I like that it’s a list. As a whitey myself, this helps. We like lists.)

… In order for them to truly enter into whitedom, they need to own the holy grail of white kitchens - the KitchenAid stand mixer (above). They will match this mixer to their kitchen’s color scheme and it will make up the focal point. And much like many religious artifacts, it will remain untouched for months and even years, sitting on the counter to be admired as a testament to their lifestyle.

(From this guy)

I don’t know where this strong urge is coming from - to want this paddle-tongued steel throne! I know I want it in slate though. It’ll probably match my other new kitchen gadgets.

*note - I really really do want a KitchenAid stand mixer! Sooooo bad!

What color KitchenAid are you putting on your registry? How do you plan to worship your KitchenAid?

Lol… Mine is red… And I pine for it! And yes, it is likely to sit on my countertop in effigy!

We put the stainless steel one on our registry and no one bought it for us. So sad!

I put the pink one on my registry… I had to fight with my fiance to be allowed to but I won out!! :-) It’s amazing what happens when I have the scanner… lol

mine is apple green! myfavorite color. The hilarious part is that I got the mixer, but our tiny apartment doesn’t currently have the counterspace to house it! lol.

I received my red beauty from my mom as a threat to start baking and cooking. Luckily I didn’t have to wait to get wed to get one because I went from a repitoire of grilled cheese and break and bake cookies to gourmet! Moms really do know best.

we bit the bullet and have a gorgeous, gorgeous bright yellow one in our kitchen, and we aren’t even engaged :) (hey, we needed a mixer to make cookies and wanted a pasta maker too!) but hahaha, it is the “focal point” of our tiny little apartment kitchen (it’s “too heavy” to put away when it’s not being used, even if it does take up a lot of precious counter space! hehe…) i keep saying “no le creuset” until the wedding registry, and hoping he gets the hint :)

A stainless steel one! We both love to cook, and my fiance makes his own homemade bread and pizza dough, so our current mixer gets a lot of use. It’s on it’s last legs though, hence the reason we want a Kitchenaid.

I got a white one (because it was on sale). I wanted a pink one, but I’m perfectly OK with the one I have. I’m just happy to have one! It’s practical and it goes with the other appliances. I think all kitchen aid mixers should be proudly displayed on counters. My mom has hers on the counter, but covers it with a dust cover. People who visit always tell her that they would never cover that thing up, but leave it out to show it off.

@Miss Bear Cub: me too me too! but it’s the closest thing to an ultimatum i’m giving him, he keeps mentioning an outlet store where we can apparently get it at more reasonable prices, but i’ve put my foot down that we can’t get it ’til we make a registry. he’s an alpha-cook/foodie, so that’s my angle for now ;)

Mr. B and I got ours as a Christmas gift last year from his Ma….its beautiful and wouldnt trade it for the world! I think it may actually be the same as the one you posted…a bit of shimmery slate, but not shiney!…and its a lift, not a tilt…and its a Professional (lots o’power!)…

We make homemade bagels and its a miracle worker :) yay to being super white and domestic hah

We got ours in chrome. It is oh so beautiful, and we’ve already used it… but mostly we just adore it! I don’t know, though, if I’d characterize it as a one race/ethnicity thing. I think Kitchen Aid transcends racial/ethnic background ;)

I’m obviously not a real bride. Those stand-up mixers scare me. Which also must mean I am not really white. (Does this mean my skin will finally tan?)

P.S. - Christian Lander, the author of “Stuff White People Like” was just featured on SMP… well, he and his bride’s wedding anyhow! I was totally excited to see it. (everyone probably already knows that…but if you didn’t…. http://www.stylemepretty.com/2009/06/04/real-wedding-jess-and-christian/ )

It took me 25 years to get mine! Do it, girls, do it! Put it on that registry! How in the world did I ever do without it? Oh…and to answer the question, white.
