About Mrs. Mary Jane

Given the amount of time, thought and indecision that’s going in to choosing Mr. Mary Jane’s wedding ring, I am really glad that my engagement ring and band came as a set!

Actually, the designer who thought up my ring felt it would be best with two bands, like this:

I don’t want two wedding bands. I prefer rings that don’t have too much heft. But I really loved this wedding set! Specifically, I liked that it had a flush fit band (in spite of the oblong setting). So many rings have wavy or otherwise not “bandy” bands… and I wasn’t really feeling this type of thing (pretty though it is):

Luckily we were able to customize my set! What allows the bands to be “flush fit” on this set is that the diamonds are set in a basket-setting about an 8th of an inch above the inside of the ring. This allows space for a slot in the basket setting allowing the wedding band to fit through. We asked the jeweler to continue the basket design on one side of my ring, filling the slot that was meant for the other bands.

Here’s the result.

The band is what I think is called a “half-eternity” band. The diamonds go about half-way around the ring. It’s set in white gold. It’s absolutely gorgeous. I have it locked in a box right now so I won’t be tempted to wear it before the big day!

I could easily wear this band by itself, but I actually plan to have my band and e-ring fused together after the wedding. They belong together, and I’m going to make sure they stay that way!

There was another tangible bonus to my request for a singular band: double bands would have been double the money! Even though our personal values don’t include scrimping on the jewelry that will symbolize our union for a lifetime, everybody likes to save money, am I right?

Did you engagement ring have a matching band, or did you have to (or - get to!) shop for one separately?

Your band turned out gorgeous! I love it! I have an eternity band for a wedding band… but I wasn’t planning on fusing the two- although I have several friends who did fuse their bands. I am an RN- so being able to take off my E-ring, and wearing my wedding band to work is perfect for me!
I still can’t over how gorgeous your rings are!!!

This is absolutely perfect, I love how your wedding band appears to be part of the engagement ring. I have a similar engagement ring style, with a basket setting so this idea would work great.

@ Sparkles I’m a clinical clerk right now so I’ll leave my band unfused too. E-rings + gloves = disaster ! :)

I like the way yours is set. My ring was an individual purchase, so we will pick out a ring later. I don’t plan on having my soldered together, as I want to be able to wear them separately if need be.

I need to shop for one and I am dreading it because I think I will need to get one of those curvy ones and that is not what I want. I actually want exactly what you have but don’t know how it will fit under my e/ring. Maybe the e-ring will need to be altered a bit.

i think i may be alone on this:
i can’t wait to put AWAY my e-ring.

it’s his late grandmother’s e-ring stone that we had reset, and i’m constantly worrying about knocking my ring on something and losing the stone!

also, i’m totally a no-jewellery (save for simple stud earrings) type of girl, so the stone+prong on the ring, small as it may be, still seems cumbersome to me.

i had to lock up our bands too though!! like fippiebride (#9), i couldn’t resist wearing mine, and FH decided that we should lock them away too. hehe.
it’s a plain band and i’m loving the sleek simplicity!

Mine came as a set that will *supposedly* be upgraded. I wear the band on my right hand b/c FI doesn’t understand tradition and didn’t know why he bought both if I wasn’t going to wear them. lol, so I’m appeasing him.

Your set is beautiful!!!!

My set is from the Flyerfit line from Martin Flyer. The e-ring was designed so that any number of bands in the collection would fit flush against it. I didn’t think it made that big of a difference–but my husband, the engineer, pays attention to those things and now I can’t imagine not having the flush fit. I love your set!!

I love how you had the band done! It looks much better than the one that follows the curve of the e-ring.
