Mrs. D'orsay, Baltimore/Lancaster UK Age and Occupation: 24, Stay at home fiance (formerly in nonprofit communications) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Web site developer and designer; co-owner of men's skincare shop Engagement Date: August 10, 2008 Wedding Date: August, 2009 Venue: Oakland Manor About Me: I'm a Maryland raised environmental policy wonk/activist/organizer and communications aficionado. In the past year I've lived in Baltimore, MD, Tucson, AZ, Miami, FL and Lancaster, England. In my not so spare time I enjoy planning trips with Mr. D' Orsay, visiting friends and family and crafting like a mo-fo. I also enjoy modern dance classes, rugby and soccer but have been banned by my mother, MOHs, and Mr. D' Orsay from playing till after the wedding. I have an unnatural addiction to cheese and shoes, but love Mr. D' Orsay more than either and can't wait to become Mrs. D' Orsay!
About Mrs. D'orsay

Bbbbback in the USA!

June 8th, 2009 @ 10:30 am by Mrs. D'orsay

It’s true, I’m back on US soil! It’s taken a bit of time for me to adjust to not only the time, but simply being back in America. It’s easy to forget after awhile just how different the US and the UK can be. For example, since being home, I spent almost 2 hours grocery shopping just to fill a tiny basket (the store was so big!) and the other day I turned down the left side of a median in to a shopping plaza… way to go.

I also have some fantastic news to share with you (I mean, aside from the fact I can go to bee meet-ups now).

  1. Mr. D had his interview at the London Embassy and currently has a K1 visa in his passport! Woo hooo!!! He’ll be flying over on July 4th and we can legally stay together. Legally stay together for 90 days that is, because that’s how long Fiance Visas are good for. Then we’ll apply for the next step of immigration. I’m having Mr. D write up his experience to share with you all, since I flew home 2 days before his interview.
  2. I LOST 30 pounds! Yes, 30 pounds. I searched the internet to give you a visual representation of 30 pounds. This fish? 30 pounds. I LOST THAT FISH.

(source)

How did this happen?

I read this book, and pretty much follow what it says. I’ve also been spending time with Jilian, and I just asked Amazon to introduce me to her new friends. I basically eat way, way, WAY healthier than I used to. Previously, you could have classified me as a cheese and breadatarian. When I say “cheese and breadatarian” I mean, a block of cheese and a loaf of bread. Now, I avoid cheese and eat a (once) daily serving of a whole grain. I’ve learned that starchy foods really puff me up, not to mention that once I get the taste for bread, I just want more (as in… the whole loaf).

Remember my motivations for losing weight? The wedding was an important factor, but what really got me off my tush was the thought of an audition upon my return to the US. I flew in Monday evening, auditioned Wednesday, and now am dancing with the company as an apprentice. I’m dancing 3 hours, 3-5 days a week—I’m sure those last 20 pounds will melt off now!

Now that I’m back on the same side of the ocean to our wedding location, it seems like it’s that time to get cracking on all the DIY projects I’ve been putting off. Hello to bottle cutting, tissue paper pomanders, designing programs, place cards, etc.

Even though I miss Mr. D and England, it’s good to be back, hive!

We are skipping the fiance visa process since we do not plan to be in the US before or immdiately after the wedding so I don’t know much about it but I wonder why he went through the process if it is only for 90 days? Will he work while in the US for those 90 days? If not, can’t he just visit with the automatic tourist visa which is good for 3 months for EU citizens? Just wondering if we should reconsider the finace visa for some other benefit. Congratulation on the weight loss!!

Yay! Congratulations for all of these great accomplishments…not only have you found a healthier you, but you have a great way now to keep it off, which is the other half of the battle!

Oh and Jillian’s 30-day shred? Fabulous! Mr. S bought it for me for Christmas. Unfortunately we can’t do it anymore because our downstairs neighbors don’t appreciate us shaking their ceiling fan when we’re jump roping and jumpin’ jacking…boo :)

@slicey19: the K1 is so he can enter without having to worry about being denied the VWP since he has the intent to marry when he enters the country (which you’re not supposed to do on the VWP). Additionally, we’ll be living in the US first and it makes the application process to be a permanent resident easier. If you’re not planning on living in the US after you’re married I doubt you’d need it.

@ everyone - Thanks so much! It’s good to be back (both in the hive and the outside world)! ;)

Um, crazy! Not only do you rock local Baltimore posts, you’re going to be dancing with my future SIL’s dance company! What a small world. Not like I would have to tell you, but they are amazing! Congratulations!

Congrats!! What an exciting time. So many wonderful things all at once.

Good thing you are dancing. When I moved back to the states from Sydney, I put on what I like to call my “American 10″ :).

I love that you “lost a fish”. A friend recently lost 40 pounds so I forwarded this blog to her. I wonder what she’s “lost”? ha! I love it!

Welcome home and best wishes

Congrats on losing the fish and to Mr D - I am from England and married an American, although I didn’t go through the fiance visa (a nice guy from immigration told me I was fine to outstay my visa while in America and get married - so we did and I now have my Green Card - wahay. Your right how different the UK and America are, the driving took a while to get used to!!! Look forward to the pics, I am sure the weight will melt off.

Welcome!!!! So happy to have you here! I know just what you mean about the groceries — when I returned from years abroadf, I almost had a nervous breakdown in the shampoo aisle from the stress of having so many choices.

I have 20-30 pounds to lose as well (”baby weight” excuse only goes so long…), so you’re a tremendous inspiration. And I am always in awe of people who can dance. So CONGRATS on the job!
