My mother, sister, and I arrived at La Fogata fashionably late. Upon arrival I was instantly overwhelmed by the sheer number of people scattered about. The restaurant was filled to capacity with the familiar faces of friends and family milling around, laughing and chatting excitedly. It was a beautiful thing.

Once over the initial shock, I scanned the room for my groom and spotted him instantly. He seemed to have recovered from the “great hangover of ‘09” quite nicely and was positively beaming whilst chatting with a relative. I skipped over to him and we immediately embraced and started strategizing our plan for the evening to ensure we covered all of our ground and greeted each person who had made time to celebrate with us, at the same time doing our best to keep me from becoming overstimulated, as I am wont to do.
We split up, and right away I was engrossed in conversation with a family friend. It was at that time that I spied a dear dear friend out of the corner of my eye. I politely excused myself and made a beeline over to her, instantly enveloping her in a massive hug. Perhaps you recognize her:

I took a break from playing hostess to look around and soak in all of the details. I was delighted that the staff and my MIL had carefully executed my vision to a tee.
They set up the piñatas and the framed letter pressed invitation:

Hung the banners I had crafted many months ago:

Ensured there were ample brightly colored flowers and cascarones on every available flat surface:

Set up the gift tables with all of the goodies we had brought for our parents and bridal party:

And the hats. Good lawd, the hats…

We held a lengthy cocktail hour where the margaritas flowed like water. They seemed to be a hit:

After which it was time to take our seats for dinner. We selected a menu where our guests could choose from three entrees – chicken or beef fajitas, or the “little bit of everything” which was made up of enchiladas, a taco, and a stuffed pepper, all of which were served with delicious rice and beans, a guacamole salad, and quesadilla appetizer.

Unfortunately our plan of saving me from over stimulation didn’t work and I was too darn excited to eat. Instead I walked from table to table making sure everyone had enough to food and was enjoying their meals.
About halfway through dinner, these guys showed up:

They were awesome. I had really really wanted mariachis at the party so our Yankee friends could enjoy a true San Antonio experience and was ecstatic that we were able to make it happen. They sounded great! So great, in fact, that Mr. L and I had to get our dance on:

The paparazzi was there to capture it all on film:

After our little show and as the plates were being cleared my MIL got up to share a few words and introduce the slide show she had created in our honor. We had a ringer for this one as my MIL runs a business that makes videos like this for weddings, graduations, and the like. While a tad on the embarrassing side (think neon green spandex dance costumes and video of preteen white boys trying to rap) the show seemed to be a big hit, eliciting cheers and tears from our guests.

Up next, we have a birthday to celebrate!
