Feeling De-feet-ed

June 9th, 2009 @ 4:48 pm by Mrs. Bunny

I’m in a shoe slump. What to do about these shoes?

Feeling De-feet-ed : wedding shoes Shoes2011 shoes201

I bought these Ann Taylor Gelsi flats several months ago for about $40, but I’ve been uncertain about them ever since they arrived. There’s just something not quite right about them.

They’re not the right shade of blue, and the heel pinches me just a tad.

Being so fussy about a pair of shoes is making me feel like a bridezilla, frankly, and I don’t like it. I shouldn’t care this much about something I’ll probably only wear for a few hours before kicking them off and going barefoot. There’s just something that feels so wildly beautiful about wearing fancy dresses barefoot, don’t you think?

Still, why should I keep them if I don’t like them? I WOULD be this picky about a regular pair of shoes — especially a pair that I paid $40 for!

So, I’ve begun looking around online for an alternative — either blue or pink flats, ideally. Our ceremony is outside and I’d rather not sink into the grass, thankyouverymuch.

Unfortunately, I found these.

Feeling De-feet-ed : wedding shoes Shoes 1

J. Crew Augustas for $160. Staggeringly out of my price range. Vintage romance all over. *sigh*

Slightly more affordable, but still out of reach, are these.

Feeling De-feet-ed : wedding shoes Pinkmet

Also J.Crew, Samantha metallic flats for $69.99. These might be excusable if I can sell the Ann Taylor flats.

I found a couple more affordable options, courtesy of Payless.com.

Feeling De-feet-ed : wedding shoes Silverf

They’re not pink or blue, but they are only $22.99.

Feeling De-feet-ed : wedding shoes Navyand

These look black and white to me, but the description says they’re navy and pink. I like them, but I’m afraid the heel is much too high. $29.99 at Payless.com.

Writing this post has me more convinced than ever that the Ann Taylor flats have to go. The right shoes are out there, I know it! And I don’t think it makes me a bridezilla to try to find them.

Are you considering flats for your bridal shoes?  Are you finding it hard to find ones fancy enough? Where have you found your favorite fancy flats?

The polka dotted ones are my wedding shoes and they are definitely navy and pink. I was worried about how high they are but they aren’t too bad once you put them on!

What size feet are you? I have a really cute pair of Sapphire Satin Steve Madden flats with a blue encrusted brooch that i was going to originally wear- but they didn’t go with the fabric of my dress- they would look great with yours though :)

Definitely keep looking! Uncomfortable shoes are totally a deal-breaker, in my opinion.

I have a pair of the navy & pink ones in an 8.5 that I bought for a shower then forgot to take them with me :) I’m planning on listing them on the classifieds in 2 weeks….and I agree with MS Girl they didn’t feel as high once I had them on.

If they’re not right, then they’re not right and that doesn’t make you a BZ. You don’t want to spend the day in shoes that you’re not crazy about and pinch your heels to boot. The polka-dot heels are really cute though.

Aww, I’m sad the first shoes didn’t work out! They are beautiful! The metallic worn look of those pink samantha’s are gorgeous, and could totally be spiced up with a little something something if you don’t think they’re “enough”… ooh i hope you find your perfect shoes!

Rahh I was commenting before then the power flickered, getting black as night out there and I’m sure the skies will open up any minute to finally cool down the 87 degree and horribly humid day we’ve been having.

Anywoo…I’m wearing Kimel Maddox kitten heel pumps in blue suede and cream leather (check them out on endless.com if your interested) and for the reception and dancing I’m switching to flats I got at Payless. I got them in teal and white and not sure which color to wear yet. They are American Eagle eyelet flats that I got for $24 apiece

Your blue flats are not romantic enough? special? even Ann taylor looks a little cheap sometimes? please don’t take that last the wrong way.

I think wedding shoes need to be dreamy! So, if your blue flats don’t fit the bill, chuck them!

P.S. I don’t think that makes you a bridezilla.

The blue ones… they look like the color and texture of pool chalk… Don’t get me wrong, I looooove cobalt but there is something definitely not quite it about the blue ones like perhaps they would leave blue marks on everything they touched!

I’m going with some bargain silver strappys from 6pm.com (http://www.6pm.com/product/7184634/color/3397) $20!

If you are concerned about heels sinking into the grass, you can always order a set of Clean Heels/Heel Stoppers: http://lindasmithweddings.blogspot.com/2009/01/clean-heels-heel-stoppers.html

I’m also getting married outside and flats were a non-negotiable, since I’m a big wuss about foot pain. I fell in love with a pair on J. Crew that were $170– wayyyy out of my budget. I found the exact same pair on eBay, worn once, and got them for $60! Done and done. I definitely recommend checking out eBay.

Do you have TJMaxx near you? Or Marshalls, or Ross? All of these sometimes have great shoe bargains, sometimes on designer shoes (often you also have to search through a whole load of ugly shoes to get there, but…). Overstock.com and 6pm.com also have discounts sometimes. Personally, every pair of shoes I’ve ever gotten from Payless have absolutely killed my feet, and it’s really sad because I’m always drawn in by the cute and cheap shoes in the window…but for the wedding day, I am staying away from them. I might just have strange shaped feet or something, though, and they might be fine for you!

Have you tried this site?

Good luck with the search! Take a DEEP breath, and remember…they are only shoes. The right ones will fall in your lap, or land on your feet!

Could you find the $160 shoe somewhere cheaper? Maybe eBay? I loooooove them. :)

Once again, Miss Bunny, I am totally with you. We are also getting married outside, and I don’t want to be struggling to stay level while saying my vows. :) I don’t know if there is an Urban Outfitters near you, but these shoes seem like they might be your style and in your price range, judging by your picks above. I’m on the hunt for awesome flats too:

I’m petty sure those shoes have gone on sale at J Crew now…? I have been stalking them too, but in blue!

I did a quick search on shopstyle.com and I think you may see a few pair that could work. Good luck!

What about SoleMates?

I’m thirteen and a half inches shorter than my fiance so I’ll be sporting some killer (hot pink to go with our colors) heels during pictures, the ceremony and first dance. We’re doing our pictures outside so I’m wearing SoleMates?

I also have a seven inch plate in my leg as the result of being a klutz so wearing heels for any great length of time is nearly impossible for me. As soon as all the formalities are over, I’m changing back into my everyday Old Navy flip flops - but don’t worry I upgraded to the metallic hot pink ones! ;)
